Position Overview
Team: Policy & Strategy
Role: Policy Assistant, Policy & Strategy Branch of the Better Regulation Division
Primary purpose of the role is to provide policy and business assistance to the Policy & Strategy Branch in the delivery of projects and business outcomes particularly relating to legislative reform. This may include a range of general activities such as desktop research and drafting briefings and reports to support the formulation of policy advice and recommendations and contribute to the development of policies that support Agency and/or Government commitments. Activities will also include the drafting of responses to citizens who have written to the Minister or the Agency.
The Better Regulation Division works across a broad portfolio of functions and projects to deliver better regulation in NSW. These regulators include SafeWork NSW, Liquor and Gaming NSW and NSW Fair Trading. These regulators are modern, innovative and collaborative, competitive for businesses, responsive to our customers’ needs, protect the community we serve and give people confidence to engage in economic and social activities. Key accountabilities
Contribute to the delivery of high standard documentation for the Policy & Strategy Branch
Assist the team in the delivery of a range of policy related projects and initiatives to facilitate the timely delivery of policy objectives
Undertake basic research and analysis in assigned areas and contribute to the preparation of reports to inform decision making and contribute to policy development
Contribute to the preparation of draft correspondence, papers, and minutes to support the development of policy initiatives

Respond appropriately to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders
Escalate urgent matters, as identified, with Unit managers or Directors
Key challenges
Implement effective time management and workload planning that assist with meeting strict timeframes
Maintain effective and professional working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
Handle a range of confidential or sensitive matters appropriately and apply judgement in alerting management to emerging, urgent or sensitive issues, as they arise
