HOOVER CHARTER SCHOOLSITE: Los Angeles, CAYEAR: Fall 2010

The general form of the design is in-spired by studies of the building heights and views of the surrounding area. The surrounding building heights drive the slopes and height of the building, while the views drive the circulation within. The form then became a way to organize the programmatic needs within the school.

The traditional library is small, secluded, quiet, and its main function is to circulate books. The modern library is a center for ex-changing information through all mediums such as books, computers, internet, video, and social interactions. The design takes the needs of the modern library and spreads it out within its circulationcreating a core for exchanging information. This information core acts as a connective void, bringing to-gether the other programs within the school.

  • MIXED-USE URBAN DEVELOPMENTSITE: Los Angeles, CAYEAR: Spring 2011

The general form of the design is inspired by the relationships between the dif-ferent programs and how they weave (or stay separate) with each other. The weaving of the form allows for the users of the various programs to cross path with each other and increase interaction between different groups of people.

  • Urban LA: Work + LiveSITE: Los Angeles, CAYEAR: Fall 2011

Los angeles is defined by many things: business, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, and much more. The identity of Los An-geles is constantly changing as more and more people move into the city. However, two elements that remain constant are people working and living in LA. This project strives to create a work/live urban development that is adaptable, innovative, yet still relates to the existing context. The basic concept for the development is a gradient approach. At one end of the development is large office buildings that are catered to large corporations and businesses. At the other end of the site, there are low-rise residential build-ings that relate the to existing public housing. The two programs are then connected by support spaces and mixed-use projects.
