To make sure that it is a perfect circle, right click on the oval, press ‘Format AutoShape’, and click the ‘Size’ tab on the pop-up menu. Change the ‘length’ and ‘width’ fields as necessary, keeping them equal. This is important because, later on, it will prevent the pointer from leaving the spinner. (click to continue)

Insert a ‘rectangle’ AutoShape on top of the circle and, using the same re-sizing method as used in step 2 on the circle, make the rectangle’s length equal to that of the circle. This serves to divide the spinner into sections. (click to continue)step4

Copy and paste the rectangle from step 3, but rotate it 180 degrees. This will serve as the vertical divider, cutting the spinner into 4 equal sections. More rectangles may be added if desired. (click to continue)

Now, create a large isosceles triangle, changing its size to be half the length of your circle. This will be the ‘pointer’ on your spinner. You can recolor this to your liking. (click to continue)

Next we need to make it so that the triangle will pivot from the bottom point, not the middle, when using the ‘spin’ emphasis animation. To do this, copy the triangle and rotate it 180 degrees. (click to continue)

Next we need to make the second triangle ‘invisible’ so it looks like the pointer is one object. To do this, make the bases of the two triangles touch, then, on the second triangle, double-click to display the ‘Format AutoShape’ box, and set the transparency to 100%. (click to continue)

Now, you need to group the two triangles together so they are animated as one. Holding down ‘ctrl’, click on both shapes. Then, right click and roll over ‘Grouping’ then select ‘Group’. (click to continue)

Now insert a button that will cause your spinner to start spinning. This can be whatever you want it to be. (click to continue)

Next, give your pointer, the grouped isosceles triangle, a ‘Spin’ emphasis effect on the Custom Animation menu. Now, set the effect’s speed to ‘Very Fast’. (click to continue)

Now we need to make it so that the spinner starts spinning when we click the ‘Start’ button. To do this, click the drop-down arrow next to your spin effect and choose ‘Timing’. On the timing menu, set the repeat to ‘Until End of Slide’. Next, click the ‘Triggers’ drop-down button and select ‘Start Effect on Click of’. Then, open the ‘Start Effect on Click of’ drop-down menu and select your start button from the list. The spinner will now spin when you click the ‘Start’ button. (click to continue)

Now insert a button that will cause your spinner to stop spinning. This can be whatever you want it to be. (click to continue)

Next add another ‘Spin’ emphasis effect to your pointer. (click to continue)

Now repeat what you did to the previous spin effect on this spin effect. On the timing menu, set the speed to ‘Very Fast’, have repeat ‘Until End of Slide’, but this time, have it start on click of your ‘Stop’ button. (click to continue)step15

Next, select your new spin effect on the ‘Custom Animation’ menu. Open the ‘Amount’ drop-down menu and set the direction to ‘Counterclockwise’ instead of ‘Clockwise’. (click to continue)

Note that the spinner only works once. To fix this, insert a blank slide right in front of the spinner slide and set its slide transition to ‘Automatically After’ and make the timing box 0 seconds. Insert a ‘Reset’ button on your spinner slide and hyperlink it to the previous slide to ‘Reset’ the spinner. Try out the reset button in the top left corner to see how this works. The reason your spinner works is because the ‘Start’ button makes it spin perpetually one way. The stop button, though, makes the spinner perpetually spin the other way at the same speed, so the spinner gets ‘stuck’ when the ‘Stop’ button is clicked.

Feel free to toy around with the settings as long as both spin effects have the exact same speed and they
