Teaching Philosophy My focus as an instructor is to help my students learn. I continuously make changes in my courses, using feedback from students and tips learned from other instructors. I attend workshops and conferences and read articles focused on new teaching and learning pedagogies. I use different methods to address different learning style preferences. Presenting the same material in several different ways helps my students understand and retain the information. Another goal I have is to convince my students (majors and nonmajors alike) that they should invest the time needed to understand the material. I do this by explaining how the topics they are learning will apply to them in their chosen careers or personal lives in the future. I bring in real-world examples from my experiences as a CPA. I also believe that my students are motivated to perform well when they see that I am enthusiastic about accounting.
