Energizing and Engaging Environments by Laura Conley Laura Conley has extensive diverse experience in education; she has trained and developed materials, assessments and curriculum for the Texas Education Agency, Independent School Districts, Youth Programs-YWCA, Head Start and other educational organizations through Lakeshore Learning as an early childhood consultant for over ten years. Laura has classroom experience from infants through 12th grade and is certified early childhood and elementary education with a

kindergarten endorsement. She also holds a special education certification and a Master’s in Business. Currently she manages ECI services in Harris County; previ-ously she worked in public, private and faith based early childhood programs, Head Start/Even Start/Early Start and public schools.

Creative Discipline: Research-Based and Appropriate Strategies to Prevent and Intervene with Challenging Behavior including Bullying! AND Play Matters: It Grows Dendrites! by Dr. Bill (William) DeMeo, Ph. D.

Dr. William DeMeo is a Developmental Psychologist who serves as a consultant for the Mayerson Academy. In addition, he also has a private practice that specializes in serving chil-dren and families that other agencies are not able to serve in the Greater Cincinnati Area. William had coordinated the mental health services for Cincinnati Public Schools’ Early Childhood Program for the past 25 years. A former teacher, he has taught at all levels, from elementary through the uni-

versity. Finally, William is a National Certified Olweus Trainer, National Association of School Psychologist Approved Provider and a National Consultant for the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention.

Oh The Places We’ll Go With Technology in The Class-room! By Catherine Dutton, Ph.D. and Sharon Hirschy

Catherine Dutton, Ph.D. is a lecturer in Family Studies and Early Childhood Development and Education at Texas Wom-an's University. She taught high school for several years previ-ously. Before returning to teaching this past year, she worked at Texas Woman’s University as the Manager of Instructional Technology where she coordinated support and training for the online teaching systems across the campus. Dr. Dutton has

a BA in Family and Consumer Sciences from Utah State University and a MA in Teaching and PhD in Family Studies from Texas Woman’s University. Her re-search interests center around technology integration in the classroom.

Sharon Hirschy is Professor of Child Development Education at Collin College. She is an author, consultant, and educator who has more than 30 years experience in the field of early childhood both with adults and children of all ages. She devel-oped the first course offered in community colleges on inte-grating technology into early childhood education.

There Is More to Math than the Meets the Eye: Strategies for Incorporating Rigor through Developmentally

Appropriate Instruction by Brian Mowry Brian Mowry has worked in the Austin Independent School District for 23 years. He taught bilingual prekindergarten for nine years, and bilingual kindergarten for two years. He has earned various awards, including Teacher of the Year for two consecu-tive years and was recently named the Austin Association for the Education of Young Children (AAEYC) Teacher Educator of the Year. Brian has served as a K-5th grade mathematics support

specialist in AISD, writing curriculum and providing teacher in service training. He currently works as an AISD district level early childhood specialist. He is currently a doctoral candidate in curriculum and instruction (with an emphasis on early child-hood education) at the University of Texas at Austin. He has also authored a national textbook curriculum in mathematics and has presented at several national and state conferences, including NAEYC and NCTM. Brian Mowry is the author of the Frog Street Pre-K Math Program.

Using Technology to Facilitate the Development of Young Children with Special Needs by Brenna Noland and Sarah Koopman-Murray

Sarah Koopman-Murray has been an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher for 19 years and has extensive experience using technology in her work with young children with special needs. She has presented on this topic in her home state of Minnesota as well as at the national level. Brenna Noland is an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher and Autism Specialist in Minnetonka, Minnesota. She is the owner of 3B’s Therapy, which provides in-home and community-based support to families with young children with special needs. She is passionate about technology and uses it on a daily basis to support the development of young children.

"Sparkle" Teaching Students with Multiple Disabilities Across the Curriculum AND “Wee Are Ready” by Kristie Smith Kristie Smith has been an educator for over thirty-two-years in the Dallas area. She is a certified teacher who has taught in all grade levels. Kristie has written over fifteen activity books that teach young children to be-come long-lasting and confident learners. Although

teaching is her profession, she is also a free-lance writer for The Dallas Morning News’ Teacher Voice column, Rockwall Blue Ribbon News Special Contributor, Inforney News, and Forney Living Guide Magazine.

Visual Supports for Visual Thinkers: Practical Ideas for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and Other Special Needs by Lisa Rogers Lisa Rogers has been an educator for over 25 years, working with students with special and diverse needs. She has a Master's in Special Education and is the Director of Educating Diverse Learners, which works with educators, students and their families, offering consultations, classroom support and training in school districts. Lisa has helped to develop several state-wide courses targeting the importance of visual strategies for students with autism spectrum disorders and aligning curriculum, instruction and assessment for students with significant cognitive delays. She has recently published a book, Visual Supports for Visual Thinkers, that provides templates of actual visual strategies to promote the implementation in classrooms at all grade levels. She lives in San Antonio, Texas.

Special Olympics Texas: Young Athletes Program by Mike Sullivan and Katy Williams Mike Sullivan is the Director of Families and Outreach for Special Olympics Texas. He received his B.S. from the University of Texas and M.E. from South-western State University studying Health and P.E. Mike has been with Special Olympics since 2007 serving as a liaison and mentor for Special Olympics out-reach efforts and programs. Mike provides statewide direction for growth and opportunity, especially toward our school-based outreach efforts. Mike has been an educator for over 30 years serving as teacher, coach, and administrator. Katy Williams is the Program Director for Special Olympics Texas: Greater Dal-las, Area 10. She received her B.A. from Austin College while studying sociology and educational psychology and has her M.S. in Agricultural Leadership, Educa-tion, and Communication from Texas A&M University. Katy oversees Special Olympics programming for the Greater Dallas Area, serving over 6,000 Special Olympics athletes and over 100 delegations throughout the counties and schools housed in ESC Regions 8 & 10. Katy was raised in a family of educators and has been involved with sports her entire life.

Culture in Early Childhood Education by Amy Pool Amy Pool is a consultant with Region 10 ESC. Her area of focus is responsive instruction for culturally and linguistical-ly diverse students. Throughout her years of experience as a special education teacher, elementary classroom teacher, reading interventionist and an elementary principal, Amy has always worked with culturally and linguistically diverse students and their families. Her experience has taught her that engaging with parents and children in culturally re-

spectful relationships and honoring the family values and beliefs cultivates greater student success.

Dr. Sandy Gluckman coaches parents and educators, providing them with the most up-to-date scientifically-proven information and skills to help children overcome learning, mood and behav-ior challenges, as well as to tap into their fullest brain power. She is the founder of the Parents, Take Charge, and, Teachers, Take Charge!
