As a part of the overarching Olweus Bullying Prevention Initiative, a series of staff trainings were held to equip students with skills to avoid cyber bullying. With the generous support from The Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, the Cyber Smart initiative is being piloted in the following elementary schools: Allen, Lakeside Academy, Lookout Valley, North Hamilton County, OLPH, Bess T. Shepherd, Spring Creek, Soddy and Thrasher.

We are extremely grateful to the Osborne Foundation for providing similar support for the Pro Tech initiative for secondary educators. Because parent education is crucial, each lesson includes the involvement of parents.

STARS Student Mediation Teams

Conflict is a normal part of the human existence. However, responding to conflict in inappropriate ways can have catastrophic outcomes. STARS is providing training for student teams to facilitate peaceful outcomes to issues of conflict. STARS trainer, William Cardell, provides on-site training upon request. According to school coordinators: Students are being prepared to serve in the role of peacemakers by helping their peers resolve conflict before it becomes a discipline issue. This lifelong skill will carry over into their personal lives and ultimately into the workforce.

Mediation teams are being established in the following schools:

Allen Elementary, Battle Academy, Central High, Clifton Hills Elementary, CSAS, CSLA, Hamilton County Middle College, Hixson High, Lookout Valley Middle/High, Bess T. Shepherd Elementary, STEM High School, Tyner Middle and Tyner Academy.
