KIALLA CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Page 3

Welcome back to our 2019 school year. I trust you all had an enjoyable Festive

Season and relaxing holidays, despite the hot weather. We are all set to go for another eventful and successful year at Kialla Central Primary School. On behalf of our school community I would like to welcome our new students and their families: Madison B, Rhys, Pat, Isla, Gemma, Matilda, Madison R, Lewis, Chloe, Jai W, Alannah, Tyrone, Jack, Amy and Charlotte. We hope you enjoy your time at K.C.P.S! We have had a fantastic start to the year with all our students getting back into the swing of things quickly and a very calm vibe around the school. We are starting the year with a total of 71 students which is an increase of 10 stu-dents. It is also pleasing to see our new and old families interacting before and after school. Our Foundation students were very excited as they came through our gate as big school kids at last! They met their buddies and ventured off to explore their new surroundings. They have all settled into their class routines and are looking very impressive in their school uniforms. Please remember: Foundation students are not required at school on Wednesdays for the month of February. This is part of their transition process into school. Our 2019 Kialla Central Team are: Mrs Deanne Moulsdale (F /1 ~ 16 students & Science) Miss Ashlea Baker (1/2 ~ 18 students) &

Health / PE) Miss Amanda Posteraro (3/4 ~ 18 students & Italian) Mr Mitchell Zito (5/6 ~ 22 students & ICT)

Miss Debbie Humphries (Principal / Specialist Teacher)

Mrs Tracey Opie (Classroom / Administration Support)

Mrs Lisa Irwin (Business Manager - Tues, Wed & Thur)

Mr Clark Pettigrew ~ Visiting Art Specialist

Miss Fiona Smith ~ Visiting Library Specialist

Patsi Makaronis, Amy Howard & Hannah Hoskin (Outside School Hours Care Program)

Mr Dale McCully (Bus Driver)

Laurell Bartlett (Cleaner)

Jess Healey ~ Volunteer Playgroup Co-ordinator

Cliff Doornkamp ~ Guitar & Keyboard

There will be days when the office will be unattended, please come over to the classrooms if you need to see someone. If you call please leave a message on the answering machine, it is checked in the breaks and followed up. During the holidays all of our families were given an information pack when you picked up your booklists. There are some permission forms that are required to be updated annually and others that are for the time your child/ren are at K.C.P.S. Each family information pack was slightly different depending on their

HOLIDAY JOBS ... All of our classrooms, the administration area, our Library, the Karramomus Room and Playgroup Room carpets were steam cleaned by Deluxe Carpet Care. Thank you to Mr Zito for organising & helping with our carpet cleaning.

Paul Irwin started the renovation to our specialist classroom by laying new vinyl in the classroom, entry area and store room. Great job thanks Paul!

Tim Daws and Luke McIntosh mowed our school grounds over the holidays. Thank you! Tim also did a lot of spraying of weeds. Zoi Tricarico for looking after our vegie garden over the holidays.

The Justice Department's Community Service Crew came out on Saturday 19th January and did some gardening work.

We had the school sprayed for spiders too.

It was evident we also had some other helpers over the holidays doing bits and pieces so thank you to our garden gnomes.

On Monday 4th February we

hosted our 2019 School Leaders

Elections.

Positions included: 2x School Captains, 6x

House Captains and 8x Junior School Council. I would like to firstly congratulate all of our students who nominated for these positions. The modest way they graciously accepted their roles and the mature way those who missed out handled their disappointment, is a credit to all of our students. It is my great pleasure to announce our 2019 Student Leadership Team:

GENERAL INFORMATION PARKING

Parents /carers are not permitted to park on school

grounds. Please park on the roadside and allow enough space between your car and the driveways for our school bus to enter and exit our driveways. There are yellow lines on the gutter to mark a suitable distance for our school bus. There are 2 exceptions to this rule: 1.) If you are picking up a sick or injured child from school; or 2.) If you are picking up your child from OSHC.

BUS TRAVELLERS

All bus travellers are required to complete a new bus travel form, that was sent home with the information pack. Please return them by the end of this week. A note outlining our 2019 pick up and drop off times was sent home last week. If your child is not at his/her bus stop in the morning then it will be assumed that he/she is not catching the bus, there is no need to ring. If your child/ren are not catching the bus home please see the teacher on bus duty before leaving the school.

NEWSLETTERS

Newsletters will be published each Tuesday. I encourage you to read our

newsletters as they are an important communication tool between the school and home. It can be emailed to you or you can access it from our website at:

www.kiallacentral.ps.vic.edu.au

CAMPS, SPORTS & EXCURSIONS FUND (CSEF)

School camps provide children with inspiring experiences in the great outdoors. Excursions encourage a deeper understanding of how the world works and teach teamwork, discipline and leadership. All are part of a healthy curriculum. CSEF will be provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities. If you hold a valid means-tested concession

card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special con-sideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child. The annual CSEF amount per student is: $125 for primary school students $225 for secondary school students.

If you received this funding in 2018 there is a new process in place. Lisa Irwin has re-submitted your application for this year. If you have any questions please see Lisa.

HOW TO APPLY FOR NEW APPLICATIONS? Contact Lisa Irwin at school.

OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL HOURS CARE

Operating times are Monday to Friday 3.15pm to 5.30pm. All families must complete an enrolment form for our OSHC program. Forms for students attending this service are available at the office and must be completed before your child/ren access OSHC. This year we currently have 33 students wanting to access our OSHC Service, we are licenced to have 19 students attend OSHC on any one night. To avoid missing out and to assist with catering and planning activities it is appreciated if your child/ren are booked into OSHC in advance, if possible. OSHC is now in the room opposite the office.

STUDENT ABSENCES Please send along a note or phone the school whenever your child is absent from school for a day or part of a day. The Department of Education and Training (DET) policy states: that a student must be at school for a minimum of 2 hours per session to be classed as present at school. Therefore, if a child arrives at school later than 11am they are classed as absent for the morning session. Similarly if they leave prior to 2.30pm they are classed as absent for the afternoon session. This information is then used when calculating student absences for the year.

Quelches are again on sale each lunchtime dur-ing Term 1 and 4 this year. Money raised from the sale of icy poles goes to our Junior School Council for a project of their choice. Cost 50 cents each.. Starting on Wednesday 6th Febru-ary.

Finally, I have accepted another 5 year contract to continue as Principal of Kialla Central Primary School. This will be my third contract as Principal and I feel very privileged to continue in this role. I am extremely proud of our school, especially the outstanding students we nurture through their primary

school education, our unique culture and amazing school community. Thank you to everyone who makes our school what it is and for the support you provide me as Principal. Special thanks to Bob Scott, School Council President, for his support and assistance over the past 10 years.
