Side by Side service

Side by Side is an Alzheimer’s Society service which helps people with dementia to keep doing things they love with the support of a volunteer. Our free one-to-one support makes it easier for people with dementia, who might sometimes feel isolated or find it difficult to leave their homes, remain active and feel part of their local community. By doing things like going for a walk, to a football match, or joining a local class together, our volunteers can support people with dementia to take up hobbies and get out and about. What they do together is entirely based on what the person with dementia wants. For more information, please contact Sue Button T: 0115 934 3800

The choir is open to all, with people attending who have memory issues plus others with mental health issues, physical disabilities and learning disabilities. If people have specific needs or require support we ask that their support worker attends but we do have the support of an ex-mental health nurse who comes to all the sessions. Dementia-friendly film screenings

Arts Derbyshire in partnership with QUAD, Public Health Amber Valley, Made in Derbyshire and the Alzheimer's Society bring you dementia-friendly cinema screenings. Come and enjoy a familiar musical, make friends over tea and cake, and enjoy fun activities and chat on the film's theme.

Matinee is a scheme making cinema accessible in community locations to those living with dementia, their carers’, friends and family. We aim to provide those living with dementia something enjoyable to do during the day, in a positive, friendly and welcoming environment.

Going to the cinema is a pastime that a huge proportion of the population enjoys, whatever their background or wherever they live; it is a pastime that was a key feature for many people in this age group (60-80+) in their younger years, in a time where it was rare to be able to watch films/TV at home and there were fewer other affordable entertainments. It is also a pastime from a time in their lives which people, even in later stages of dementia, are likely to be able to access mentally.

Stepping Stones day care centre is a place where people from retirement can come to visit and mingle with other friends to enjoy good company, tea and coffee, and a freshly cooked three course meal. Our services are open to any member of the public wanting to join in with our activities and we are here to help families with that all important "rest bite" they quite often need by caring for your loved ones while you take time out for yourself during the day. There is much more to Stepping Stones than just a place to meet, residents can reminisce over past times, make new friends and even join in on day or even week long trips away.

Stepping Stones Day Care Centre is a funded charity that cares for the elderly during the day by providing transport facilities to our centre where beverages, hot meals, entertainment and professional care is provided by qualified staff throughout their visit. We have full facilities to cater for residents including adapted toilets, shower rooms, wheelchairs, nutrition controlled menus, trained carers and most of all, a friendly smile. We are fully registered as a charity and have all the insurances, health and safety requirements and facilities required to operate a care centre. Even our meals are regulated to be fresh and nutritious to our residents taking into account any dietary or allergy needs.
