PLEASE make every effort to pick your child up after school on time –

especially on Wednesday. We have had too many instances of children having to wait too long in the office for someone to come to pick them up.

We understand that sometimes emergencies arise but there is no structured

supervision for your child after school hours.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anytime you come to school during the day for whatever reason, please sign in at the

main office. If you need to drop something off you your child during the school day,

please drop it off to the main office. Please do not go directly to the classroom as it

causes an unnecessary disruption. Thank you for your cooperation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HAVE YOU MOVED, CHANGED JOBS, OR CHANGED A PHONE NUMBER? Please let the main office know if you have moved, changed jobs, changed home phone numbers, or if the people listed as your emergency contacts have changed their phone numbers. It is extremely important that the school be able to contact you in the case of an emergency.

Spring Pictures

A big Stanton Star thank you to Mrs. Kline (Jeffrey’s mom), Mrs. Duncan (Amiel’s mom) and Mrs. Acosta (Angel’s mom) for helping with our spring pictures. We appreciate all that you do!!

Dear Friends of CVSUD Music, This letter is to inform you about the business relationship between Amazon.com and the Castro Valley Music Parent’s Society. The Music Department is requesting that the next time you want to make a purchase at Amazon.com, that you visit the MPS web site http://www.cvmps.org/. Link to Amazon.com from the MPS web site, then continue to make your purchase. When you purchase from Amazon.com through the MPS link, Amazon will pay MPS 4% to 10% of your purchases including gift cards and items being sold by other companies through their site. What’s really exciting about this relationship between Amazon and MPS is that you are not being asked to spend additional monies! The money that you already planned to spend is what Amazon bases the calculation of the donation to MPS! Please make sure that you start with an empty cart before proceeding. In other words, only those items that you purchase from linking directly from MPS to Amazon will be considered in calculating the donation. Your participation in this program is greatly appreciated.

• MPS is the longest continually running booster organization in the Castro Valley Unified School District. Its prime motivation is to serve over 8000 students in the 13 schools as needed.

• It provides volunteers and additional funds to our vocal and instrumental music for all 13 school sites which in turn benefits the drama/theater drama department as well.

• MPS’s goal is to use the monies that directly affect the students in each music group such as: choir folders, polo shirts, sheet music, pizza, holiday and end of the year parties, and other miscellaneous expenses.

• MPS also assists in providing instruments for those students who can’t afford the $100 rental fee. The organization keeps a special account just for instrument repairs.

• Volunteers put on the Annual Spaghetti Feed to raise funds. This dinner also provides another venue for middle school and high school students to perform.

• MPS has also paid for busing to various competitions for the high school choirs, band and orchestra.

• MPS provides multiple annual music scholarships for deserving graduating seniors. • Lastly, MPS donated $20,000 to be used for teacher salaries for the 2010-2011 school-year.

2011 Rowell Ranch Rodeo Art & Essay Contest Entries Due April 25 (for May 14, 2011 Parade)

This Year’s Theme:

“Horsein’ Around in Castro Valley” The Castro Valley Rotary Club invites all elementary students in Castro Valley (public, private or home school) to participate in an Art and Essay contest. The theme this year is “Horsein’ Around in Castro Valley”. Art work and Essays are judged in three levels: K-2, 3-4, and 5-6, with two prizes in each of the three grade levels. This year the parade will host the California State Horsemen’s Association Championship. All horse entries must have placed 1st in at least 5 parades. Many have been in the Rose Bowl Parade. In honor of this achievement, we want to celebrate the role ranching has played in our community’s past and present – and not just horses!! Use this opportunity to find out and tell us in a piece of Art or in an essay. Guidelines for submission are as follows: Kindergarten through 2nd Grade Animals have always been a part of our Castro Valley community. What animals have played a part in your life? Maybe you have a special pet, or you love to go to the zoo and laugh at the funny monkeys behind their bars. Perhaps you have your own horse, and spend time every week brushing, riding and caring for your special friend. 3rd and 4th Grade Do you have a favorite story about ranching or the Wild West? What do you think it was like as a pioneer coming to Castro Valley back in the late 1800’s, and starting a horse ranch or perhaps a chicken farm? Can you imagine what your ranch or farm would look like? Who would feed the animals and collect the chicken’s eggs? Who would water the garden? How could your friends and neighbors help you with your ranch, and what could you do to give back to your community?

5th and 6th Grade Exploring the world around you and learning how and why things work is essential for success in life. Ranching has been very important to our community and still plays a role. Imagine you are a rancher. What would a typical day be like from sunrise to sundown? In what ways would you be able to give back to your home town? How would your community help you succeed as a rancher?

Essay: Submit an essay of 125 words or less. Essays over 125 words will not be judged. OR ART: Submit an Artwork project. Artwork needs to be flat work no larger than 17x22. Judging will be in three categories: K-2, 3-4, 5-6 with two prizes awarded for each level. First Place Prize: Award Plaque, 4 tickets to attend the 2010 Rowell Ranch Rodeo, ride in the 2010 Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade, publication of your work on www.castrovalleyrotary.org and www.mycastrovalley.com First Runner-up Prize: Award Plaque, 2 tickets to attend the 2010 Rowell Ranch Rodeo, ride in the 2010 Rowell Ranch Rodeo Parade, publication of your work on www.castrovalleyrotary.org and www.mycastrovalley.com Send or deliver your essay or art work along with the name of your school, your name, grade, address, phone number and email address (or your parent’s email, if available,) to either address below:
