THE IMPACT OF PTS WOMEN IN INDIA AND NEPAL
In this issue of the Newsleer, we would like to highlight the ministry of our women
students. The first batches of ladies in PTS graduated in 1974 and 1977. Several years
aer PTS moved from Roorkee to Dehradun, the Strom Hostel was constructed to
accommodate more women who have a desire to serve the Lord in various capacies.
Approximately one-fih of our students are women. The ministry of women in India
connues to be vital, more so because of cultural reasons. In rural areas especially it is
impossible for men to have contact with women. The need for women's ministry South
Asian region is sll challenging.
See below how some of the PTS women graduates are making an impact:
Lallianmawii ('74) came to learn about PTS
through the monthly magazine, “Krisan
Tlangau,” of the Presbyterian Church in
Mizoram. She was moved by the way PTS was described,
“believing the Bible as it is wrien.” She was the first lady
to graduate from PTS. Upon graduaon, Lallianmawii
was fully enthusisasc to serve God as she sought for
any opportunity. She joined Operaon Mobilizaon and
Discipleship teams and led women's groups during the
summer months. She also had ministry in Shillong under
the guidance of Dr. I Ben Wa, a reputed naonal Chrisan leader.
Later, she visited churches in Manipur and Mizoram with her missionary friend Ms
Lalhmingliani. In 1979, Zoram Evangelical Fellowship invited her to work in an
orphanage, Hermon Children's Home, in Aizawl. She married Mr. Lalrosanga (PTS '78) in
1993. Together they worked as house parents ll August 2020. Many children were saved
through their ministry. Several of them graduated from PTS and have entered into full-
me ministries. Lallianmawii connues to contribute in her local church ministry in
Aizawl in leading Women's conferences and Bible studies.
Manju Gurung (’15): It was the lack of trained leaders in her church
in Nepal, and the influence of wrong doctrines within her church
that prompted Manju to undertake theological studies. She felt
the need to teach and train lay people for ministry. Aer graduaon, Manju
took iniave (without taking any salary) to train prospecve leaders of her
church and taught Hermeneucs and also on how to prepare messages from
the Bible. She is happy to see the improvement among pastors and elders,
though, “It is sll a challenge,” she says. She prepares lesson plans for Sunday
School teachers. Manju also works with the Reformed Church of Nepal with
twelve congregaons, focusing on women by involving in mercy ministries.
J. Romawii ('77), with her friend, Ms. Lalringliani ('77) were sent to work in
Jammu and Kashmir by Zoram Evangelical Fellowship. Aer a lot of prayer,
they felt the need to start a children's home known as Dar-Ul-Fazl (DUF-
House of Grace). Mawite, as Ms Romawi is called, connued to work ll
2013. In the course of their work, Mawite started an organizaon known as
“Women's Federaon” to upli the women of sixteen remote villages in
Kullu-Manali valley, in partnership with CASA, a Chrisan social agency. They
addressed women's issues and provided vocaonal training centres. Other
issues such as Disaster Management, Climate Change, etc. also were
addressed in this forum. She has an acve role in the ministry of the Church
of North India. She has received awards from the State of Himachal Pradesh in recognion of her services. In
