How to Behave in a Movie TheaterExplore this Article

Co-authored by Last Updated: May 24, 2021

Going to the movies for the first time? Are you unsure of what it will be like or how you shouldbehave? Making the most of your movie-going experience is as simple as being courteous, following theater rules, and embracing a generous spirit towards your family and friends.

Being Prepared Following Movie Theater Etiquette Questions & AnswersTips and Warnings References

wikiHow Staff

1 Arrive early to avoid entering the theater after the movie has started. Make sure toget to the movie theater with enough time to park your car, buy snacks, use the

bathroom, find your screen, choose seats, and get settled. Adjust your arrival time if you areseeing a recently released movie or if you’re attending at peak hours. This means longer linesand a crowded theater.

2 Use the bathroom before entering the theater. Getting up to use the bathroom in themiddle of the movie is disruptive. Make sure to locate the bathroom closest to your movie

theater before entering. Even if you use the bathroom beforehand, you may need to go againduring the movie. Knowing the quickest route will get you in, out, and back in your seatquickly.

3 Let friends and family know where you are. Notifying your friends and family thatyour phone will be turned off for the next few hours shows respect and maturity. It also

helps to avoid disruptions during the movie.

4 Make calls and end text message conversations before entering the movietheater. Place any last-minute calls and end unfinished text message conversations

outside of the movie theater. Talking or texting on your mobile phone during the movie isirritating and rude. This is especially true in 3D movies that require the use of special glassesthat react to certain bright lights. [2]

5 Offer to stand in line for snacks and drinks. If you’re seeing a movie with a group offriends or family members, offer to stand in the concession line. This shows your

generosity and helps keep the group organized. While you stand in line, your companions canuse the bathroom, save seats in the theater, and get settled. It also makes their experiencemore enjoyable and they will be more likely to invite you for another movie.

Make sure to take the group order and ask for money before getting in line. Trying toorganize while in the concession line will slow down other movie goers who alreadyknow what they want.

1 Treat movie theater staff with respect. This applies to all interactions includingpurchasing tickets, buying snacks and drinks at the concession stand, and

acknowledging cleaning staff as you exit the theater at the end of the movie. How you treatthe staff is a reflection of your own maturity.

Following Movie Theater EtiquetteMethod

2

2 Enter the movie theater quietly and choose a seat quickly. You will enter the theaterat the very bottom or very top of the seating area. Find your seat respectfully without

pushing, running, jumping, or talking loudly. If you sit next to another patron, always ask if theopen seat is actually available. They may be saving it for someone.

3 Turn off any electronic devices. This is one of the biggest behavior faux pas you canmake during a movie. Make sure your mobile phone is turned completely off. The light

from your screen can be incredibly irritating to the other movie goers. [3]

4 Release saved seats when the lights dim. If you are saving a seat for a friend orfamily member, release the seat as the lights dim and before the trailers begin. Seats are

generally available on a first come, first serve basis. It is rude to hold a seat for someone whois late over movie goers who have arrived on time. [4]

5 Don't talk during the movie. The sound of your voice may disturb other patrons whoare trying to listen to the movie. If you absolutely have to make a comment, make sure to

speak in a quiet whisper.

6 Exit the movie theater silently and respectfully during the movie. If you have toleave the theater while the movie is still showing, try your best to crouch to avoid

blocking other people's view. Be as quick as you can, while also keeping safety in mind. Don’ttalk while leaving the theater and try your best to time your departure with an appropriate partof the movie.

7 Share your space respectfully with strangers. Be aware of shared armrests anddon’t let your personal items stray into another seat. Be careful not to kick the chair in

front of you. If you experience disruptions, such as a movie goer kicking the back of your seat, address the situation calmly and politely.

You can also find a different seat. Keep in mind, everyone has a right to sit where theywant, so try to make the best of the situation without disrupting the movie.

8 Pick up any trash. Leaving empty candy boxes, greasy popcorn bags, and emptiedsoda containers is disrespectful and immature. By cleaning up your seating area, you are

treating the movie theater staff with respect. Remember, they have to clean up the theaterafter every movie for their entire shift.

9 Wait for the lights to turn back on before exiting the movie theater. Unless it’s anemergency, wait until the lights have turned on before standing up. This shows respect to

other movie goers who are still watching the screen. It is also safer as you can easily seewhere you’re walking.

Thursday Numeracy Area

Area

WALT: convert units of

measurement to calculate areas

of squares, rectangles and

triangles.

What is Area?

Area is the term used to define the amount of space taken up by a

2D shape or surface.

Units of Measurement The common units of area are; Square Millimetre (mm²) Square Centimetre (cm²) Square Meter (m²) Square Kilometre(Km²)

Before we can calculate area of a given shape we must ensure all

the units are the same. The measurements of area will be

inaccurate if the units are different.

Let’s have a closer look at our Converting Area chart

If we move from smaller

unit to larger units we

must divide by 10, 100 or

1000 depending on what

unit we are moving from.

But if we move from larger

units to smaller units we

must multiply by 10, 100 or

1000.

For example: 150mm²= ________cm²

So, I need to divide by 10.

150÷10=15cm²

Another example: 2km²= _______m²

So, now I need to multiply as I am moving from larger unit to smaller

unit.

2×1000=2000m²

You can use any strategy that your familiar with for multiplication

and division.

Success criteria

➢ Correctly converts between units

➢ Calculate area of given shapes

➢ Accurately measures and

calculates composite areas

Week 8- Thursday 2nd- Body and Mind- Heart Art

Life looks very different right now. To ensure we protect our health and the health of others, we

are staying safe at home.

Whilst this is the right thing to do, it’s not easy. We miss our friends and our freedom.

For many people in our community this is made all the harder by other events in their lives.

Coming together as a community to show our care and support for the people that need it the

most, will make a massive difference.

Mental Health- there are people in our community that struggle with the health of their mind.

Living daily and suffering from illnesses like depression and anxiety is always difficult. This

suffering is made worse when they are cut off from the community and services that support

them.

Around the world, people’s lives are affected by the unkind acts of others. In war affected

countries, people are deprived of the healthcare and personal space needed during a

pandemic. The worry of illness and lack of physical safety is very real for many people. We

are privileged to share our community with many wonderful families from Afghanistan.

Extending our care and solidarity to our Afghani families is essential at a time when accessing

support services is difficult.

The elderly within our community, are some of the loneliest people we live amongst. Retiring

from work, a slowing lifestyle and grown-up children leading busy lives are just some of the

reasons older people spent a lot of time alone. Lockdown restrictions cut our elderly off from

the social support they rely on in their times of need.

Healthcare workers are the unsung heroes of the pandemic. They risk their own lives to care

for those infected, often having to separate themselves from their loved ones to protect their

health. For our doctors, nurses and emergency services the pandemic has been an 18-

month marathon that they have ran without complaint. Showing our appreciation for what

they do for us will help them carry on the fight.

Task

Use the coloured strips of paper on the following pages to create a piece of art that shows the

people in your community that you care.

You can display your art outside your home for passers by to view. You may also donate it to a

neighbour in need as long as you can do this with zero physical contact, for example leaving it on

a doorstep or putting it in a letter box.

Week 8- Friday 3rd September- Numeracy- Angle Angels

Don’t forget to upload your work to Dojo

Part 1

Cut out the coloured strips and labels.

Look around your home to find angles you can see in everyday

objects. You must find a minimum of 5.

Use the strips to highlight the angles you find.

These images give you an idea of places you can look.

Write an estimation of how big each angle is in degrees

and what kind of angle you believe it to be, on a label.

(Straight Line, Right Angle, Reflex, Obtuse, Acute)

Take a photo of your angles with their labels and upload them to your Dojo portfolio.

Angle Angels

I am a successful learner

because:

I can identify

angles in the real

world and estimate

their size.

I can create angles

and measure them

accurately with a

protractor.
