What am I doing in Writing for Week 8?

We are writing a BOOK REVIEW this week.

A book review tells us a little bit of information about a story and whether we

recommend it or not!

Choose a book from home – this can be ANY book OR use one of the books that

your teacher read from Book Week last week posted on Dojo.

Page 12: Stage 2 Learning from Home Term 3, Week 8

Monday - WEEK 8 – Book Week special!

Read a book of your choice/watch a story read from any of the Stage 2

teachers on Class Dojo.

Write/type the Title, Author, Illustrator (if there is one – it might be the

author!) and sketch or search on Google Images the book cover.

Teacher Example

• Title: Hello Jimmy!

• Author and Illustrator: Anna

Walker

Tuesday - WEEK 8 – Book Week special!

We are learning to write/compose a book review

Write a summary on what this book is about! Don’t spoil the ending!

You should only write 3 sentences!

Describe the setting of the story (use adjectives: what does it look like, sound

like, feel like, taste like?)

Teacher Example

• Summary:

One day a parrot appears on the doorstep. His name is Jimmy. Dad thinks Jimmy

is amazing but Jack doesn’t think so at all…. I wonder if Jack will ever accept

Jimmy?

• Setting:

This story is set at Dad’s house. It’s mainly in kitchen with some mess on the floor,

including Jack’s sneakers tossed on the ground and some left over lettuce from

tacos. Some of the story is also set in Jack’s room and Dad’s office. Jack’s room

has a blue bed cover and some of his toys are left on the floor.

Page 14: Stage 2 Learning from Home Term 3, Week 8

Wednesday - WEEK 8 – Book Week special!

We are learning to write/compose a book review

Character Profile

Name, age (if it says), describe the character, what do they do in the story, why

do you like this character.

Draw a picture of your favourite character or Google Image search a picture.

Teacher Example

• Jack

• Young school boy

• Dark brown hair

• Orange striped top

• Blue jeans

• Black shoes

• Lanky, short

He is not a fan of his dad’s new pet, Jimmy who is a parrot.

I like this character because I love how in the end he

accepts Jimmy after losing him! It makes their bond very

special.

Page 15: Stage 2 Learning from Home Term 3, Week 8

Thursday - WEEK 8 – Book Week special!

We are learning to write/compose a book review

Favourite Part

Describe your favourite part in the story, include a “quote” from the story and

explain why this is your favourite part in the story.

Teacher Example

My favourite part in the story was when Jimmy woke up in

the middle of the night to find all of Jimmy’s friends

surrounding his bedroom. I loved this part because this is

where Jimmy brought his friends to meet Jack. It is also the

part where Jimmy escapes and Jack has to find him!

Quote from the book – “When Jack turned out the light,

and closed his eyes, all he could hear was the rustle of

Jimmy’s feathers.”

Page 16: Stage 2 Learning from Home Term 3, Week 8

recommend this book to.

Publish your book review on the next page and put all your information

together!

Teacher Example

5-star rating

Recommendation – I recommend this book to teachers,

students and parents who have little children. I think this is

a great book to teach ‘you never know what you’ve got

until it’s gone’. Such a great book, I loved it!

Library Week 8

Watch the video of Mrs Marden reading the Shortlisted text – There’s No Such Thing.

Poor BIG Bear was scared of every little thing! He even made normal little creatures unnecessarily even scarier!

Your library activity is to:

Change a cute little creature into a scary one. Use the youtube clip below after the story to give you an idea. You are only limited by your imagination!

You will need a piece of paper, lead pencil and colour pencils/ textas or crayons.

Here is a really good video link to help you and give you just one possible idea.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zk8DyJVe8fk

On the back write a list of all the nice things your creature does and all the scary things your creature does.

We have a new music mission! We are learning about body percussion!

Watch the video: Boom, Snap, Clap.

If you don’t have access to Youtube, try coming up with your own body percussion tune!

You can do this with someone at home, or by yourself!

How fast can you go? Can you make the beats go on for longer than a minute?

Can you go fast so it sounds like a rap? Try rapping the alphabet at the same time! Maybe

someone can rap it for you! Or as background music to your favourite song! Don’t forget

to film yourselves!!
