Staff News

We are sad to say a very fond farewell to Mrs Sophie Hunt at the start of this month. Mrs Hunt has worked at Corsham Primary for over 3 years and will be missed by adults and children alike. We will miss her lovely smile and wish her

well in her new job trying something completely different. Good luck Sophie.

We say a big thank you to Mrs Stephanie Caceres for working with our lunchtime team and looking after our children at play and wish her lots of luck in her new

ventures.

We are pleased to welcome Mrs Sara Williamson to Corsham Primary this term. Sara has joined our admin team and will be based in the front office at

Broadwood. She has settled in well already, meeting all our children and getting to know our Mums and Dads too.

Broadwood New Build Update

Over half term the school site was full again of lots of contractors using all their different trades and expertise. The building team were very productive in the unusually warm

winter sun.

Windows have gone into the high ceiling walls and bright clean bricks have begun to

adorn the outside walls.

We look forward to being watertight very soon which is

just as well as Spring showers will be soon upon us!

Playground Craze of the Month March’s crazes are reading books, hula hoops,

Teddies, squishies and cats cradle. Please ensure that toys are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Corsham Primary School

Music Evening (6pm—7pm)

We are holding our annual

musical extravaganza to show off our talented

children on Tuesday 25 June.

This will be held in the Broadwood school hall—entry is

free and all are welcome.

Look out for more information soon.

Lovely Learning Assemblies

We have recently started our “Lovely Learning” Assemblies for Years 3, 2, 1 and Foundation Stage. These are once a year celebrations in addition to year group

assemblies, when each class and their teachers are able to share the lovely learning that has been going on in the classroom.

Parents and Carers are warmly invited to come along and join the celebration with their child’s class. They start at 2.30pm in the School Hall on dates that are set at

the start of the year, so do keep checking the newsletters for updates. The assemblies will be hosted by the class teacher and a member of the school’s

leadership team.

The children will choose some learning that they would like to share with everyone during the celebration and each child will be awarded a “Lovely Learning” certificate. It is also an opportunity for the class teacher to share some of the class’ golden mo-

ments with everyone.

Easter Arrangements 2019

We are currently busy organising our Easter

celebrations for this year and plan to hold our

traditional Easter activities during the last week of term (w/c 1 April 2019).

We will keep you updated as soon as arrangements

have been finalised.

Swimming Lessons—Years 3 and 4

Please may we ask that parents and carers remember to pack their child’s swimming costume and towel on the days that they are going to Springfield for swimming lessons—we have very few

spares for those who forget.

Thank you

SPORTS NEWS ...

Both Pound Pill and Broadwood were represented in a Hockey tournament with six other local schools last month. Despite the cold weather, both teams played with great energy and enthusiasm. It was a successful afternoon for Corsham Primary with both teams winning a few of their games and resulting in Broadwood taking second place in the tournament - a great achievement against some very strong teams. Pound Pill also didn't go home empty handed; they collected the fair play

award that was voted for by the sports leaders who helped umpire the tournament. They were awarded this for fantastic sportsmanship, respect for the sports

leaders and great team morale.

Corsham Primary School also took part in a swimming gala with three other local schools. Every child swam with great enthusiasm and supported all the other

swimmers throughout the event. It was a successful afternoon for Corsham Primary with many individuals winning their races, resulting in Pound Pill winning the overall

swimming gala! This was a great achievement against some very strong county swimmers. Broadwood also didn't go home empty handed; they collected the fair play

award that was voted for by the sports leaders who helped at the gala. They were awarded this for fantastic support and effort throughout.

We are so appreciative of our lovely teams at each site who work so hard and make fabulous food for the children and staff every day. Well done team!

Resilient Recyclers

We were very proud to introduce to Corsham Primary, The Resilient Recyclers who ably ran the school for us on Friday 15 February 2019. The Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister wrote the following press release for the newsletter: The Resilient Recyclers hosted the whole school morning assembly at both sites and talked about the day’s events centring around who the Party is and what it represents. The Resilient Recyclers have a slogan “When you refuse to re-use, it’s our earth you abuse”. Targets are to highlight recycling and how important it is. Everyone dressed in green and or blue mufti to raise money for the Surfers Against Sewage charity whose aim is to make oceans clean and reduce waste. These colours were chosen to signify the colour of the planet and also the colour of school recycling bins. Planned events included timing the recycling rush – a game where you sort through plastic and put it in the right bins whilst being timed. Rap battle – children had to write an eco-style rap and each class had a winner voted for by the children. Some winners performed in the afternoon assembly. Plenty of rapping went on during the day! The PM went around the classes to supervise “Eco bricks” and explained what an eco brick is and what it does. A competition was devised for children to design a machine to help clean up the ocean – this was judged by the PM and Deputy PM – certificates were awarded to winners of all competitions and activities. Mufti money was collected and counted by the Chancellor and one of the media team. A total (which is yet to be counted), will be confirmed in the next issue and sent to Surfers Against Sewage. There was lots of cross-site traffic as different members of the Party travelled to and from Pound Pill and Broadwood. Classes were inspected in the afternoon and during the assembly, all winners were announced and applauded. Well done to the Resilient Recyclers—they did a super job and all seemed to enjoy their different roles! We were celebrated in the Wiltshire Gazette & Herald too!

Parking Reminder

Please may we remind parents and carers again that it is important we respect the surrounding residents and do not block their driveways or park inconsiderately

when dropping off and picking up children at the beginning and end of the day. At Pound Pill, car parking permits are available for parents and carers who would find it convenient to park at Newlands Road (Co-op) and walk the short distance

from there to school. Please ask at the school office if you would like one.

Thank you for your continued co-operation and support.
