The students have been working hard to do their best on the upcoming state
standardized tests! Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night
before their exam. On the test dates, be sure they eat a nutritious breakfast
before school and have all necessary test materials with them. The campus
will be closed on these dates, which means no visitors and no deliveries can
be made until testing is completed. Students may not have any electronics
with them in the testing rooms as well.
Students can bring a healthy snack on STAAR days. Make sure that the
snack is dry and not sticky. It should be no larger than 2 oz. or a snack zip
lock bag size. Students can also bring a water bottle no larger than 16 oz.
Please do not bring candy. Some examples of snacks are listed here: pret-
zels, Goldfish crackers, animal crackers, and Teddy Grahams. Students are
allowed to eat their snack and/or have water at any time during the test.
Otherwise, students should keep their snacks and water on the floor next to
their desk.
Weekly deadline for the Paw
Print is Wednesdays at noon.

Lady
Bobcats
Win!
The ferocious 7th grade Lady Bob-
cats again took the field on May 2—eager to make amends for what internally felt like a 'woulda, coulda, shoulda win' that wasn't last
week.
In blustery conditions the good guys (or gals) went toe to toe with an undefeated Wood Creek Juinior High squad sitting atop the group
table.
After losing the coin toss, our heroines were to face another opponent on the field concurrently—the wind.
The beginning of the first half saw Wood Creek have the better of the run of play, largely aided by the weather conditions. Normal passes
we could usually intercept skipped waywardly towards our goal and into dangerous areas. Clearances were even more difficult as any-
thing hit without conviction went sailing awkwardly away or in the wrong direction. Which makes the combined defensive effort of the first
half even more impressive. Defensive stalwarts were present in every position on the field. Amy Skelton and Claire Hartemink were fre-
quently busy and equally impressive as they were both under constant pressure. This was punctuated by a decisive Claire Hartemink
slide tackle that sent the attacking player tumbling to the ground and the ball neatly trickling out of bounds.
The defense was further fortified by a solid first half of challenges and hustle plays from Jillian Simmons and Ciara Mitchell. Their ability
to clog the middle and not allow Wood Creek to have a free runs through our defense played a key role in the victory. Gabby Magana
played a priceless role again anchoring the defense as sweeper making clearance after clearance ensuring any dangerous plays never
gained any steam.
Even against the wind McMeans began to flash their metal and a through ball early on saw a dashing Hannah Paight on a breakaway
with no defenders in sight but her shot was sent off target.
The middle of the field was dominated by a rabid pack of soccer hungry ladies consisting of Claire Stockard, Katie carfagno, Ally Herleth,
Carly Skelton, Casey Sorkness and Alicya Higgins. The composure of Stockard, Herleth and Carfagno allowed freedom for fellow team-
mates to attack the defense of WCJH. Outstanding play from Carly Skelton opened up the field of play and her decisive runs down the
wing gave us a clear advantage all game. Casey Sorkness made an immediate impact on the game as her quickness and deft touch
opened up passing lanes and led to the first real chance on goal. The synergistic team play was no more evident than on our first goal
when deep in our defensive half Alicya Higgins made a strong defensive challenge that initiated a counter attack resulting in the ball find-
ing the feet of the blazing Cybil Och who expertly finished the breakaway with the virtual last kick of the ball in the first half. Team work
rewarded.
McMeans 1-0 Wood Creek. Halftime.
The second half saw our chances and possession increase as the wind was in our favor. Hannah Paight was rewarded for her hard work
early in the second half as her powerful shot took a slight deflection and went in.
McMeans 2-0 Wood Creek.
The tidal wave of aggression and teamwork was beginning to wear down WCJH and another goal was deserved on the evening but would
go for not.
Defensively, however the Lady Bobcats maintained the shutout furthered by solid play from Virginia Williams who stepped in and stopped
all advances towards goal. Equally impressive were Giselle Arellano, Avery Feil, Leighanne Thompson, Ana Luna And Elena Porras who—
when their number was called they answered.
The shutout also should be attributed to the excellent goalkeeping of Sydney Blanchard and Sabrina Guinzioni. Both had key saves to
preserve the shutout.
Final score McMeans 2-0 Wood Creek Recap: Cybil Och (25’) Hannah Paight (31’)
