At John Perryn we are fortunate to have a rich diverse school community, and throughout the year we will aim to acknowledge the achievements of different cultural groups. So far we have enjoyed teaching the children about black people who have made a tremendous contribution to their country, and have inspired others. Martin Luther King Jr. Malorie Blackman Preacher, Civil Rights Leader, Children’s Author, OBE, Nobel Prize Winner. Children's Laureate 2013- 15 Usain Bolt Most successful athlete in 30 year history of World Championships. This week Andrew Mohamed visited our school again and the children really enjoyed his wonderful enthusiasm as he taught about black scientists and inventors. He encouraged them to do their very best in school. CHINA: We also celebrated HEALTHY EATING John Perryn is a Healthy School. The children have been asked not to have sweets or chocolate in their lunch boxes. In the future, please could you help us by NOT putting these in your child’s lunch box. Sweets Crisps Fizzy Drinks ARE NOT ALLOWED! If you child brings sweets to school, they will be taken away and given back at the end of the day. Every Friday is now going to be a ‘TREAT DAY’ . CHINA: We also celebrated Confucius Day on September29th. He was a famous Chinese philosopher and teacher. Ms El-gazi taught the children one of his wise sayings, “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do.”EID: Many of our school community will soon be celebrating Eid this week, and there will be an Eid Assembly on Monday 14th October.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS!14 October: Staff will be available to help parents complete application forms for secondary school in the ICT Suite. 3:45 – 4:45pm.15 October: School closed for Staff Training Day.17 October: TEACHER’S STRIKE. ONLY the teachers of Year 4 Lime, and Year 5 Plane will be on strike. OUR 1 ST CLASS ASSEMBLY Well done to Year 6 Chestnut and Year 6 staff. They told the children about the genre they were studying in Literacy which was ‘horror’, and they performed the famous Michael Jackson dance routine for ‘Thriller’.
