ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME!
What is Brake the Cycle of Poverty?!BTC is a social outreach ministry about increasing awareness of poverty.! They use bicycles as the vehicle to bring attention to this problem.! They ride throughout Connecticut to spread the word, visiting faithbased communities. they! ride to a faithbased community, they stop along their route to visit a food pantry, shelter, or soup kitch-en.! They meet with the clients, learn from them, listen to their stories of poverty and then share those stories with those to whom they speak in-cluding our federal and state legislators. The BTC team has traveled throughout Connecticut!now for 15 years to many faithbased communities bringing their message about the prevalence of poverty in this, the wealthiest state in the wealthi-est country.! The team continues to travel the state raising awareness of poverty and visiting communities throughout the year. They ask our legislators to help eradicate poverty as we know it by “changing the system” that seems to force more people into poverty through no fault of their own. We all are economically vulnerable today where one thing, like losing a job, a home, experi-encing a health problem, or even just losing a car can be that one thing that is the difference of keeping above water or sinking into its depths. Come listen to their stories. Come learn how to PEDAL with the BTC team without even having a bike. Participate; Educate; Dedicate; Advo-cate; All w ith Love.!!
THERE WILL BE A PRESENTATION ON THIS TOPIC !MONDAY, JUNE 25, 2018!7:00 PM, CHURCH HALL !

Mission Trip Collection !!
Next weekend, June 23 and 24, we will be having a “shake the can” collection after Mass for our mission trip in July. Some of the things our St. Thomas team will be doing are helping to build ramps, stairs, do home repairs, help out in nursing homes and distribute items to the homeless in a poverty stricken area. Any donations collected will be used for this very worthy cause. Thank you for your help!

Fatherhood!!
“His heritage to his children wasn’t!words or possessions, but an unspoken treasure, !
the treasure of his example as a man and a father.”!~ Will Rogers, Jr.!
!
! Fatherhood is …! !!
! Generous!! Tender!! Loving !! Permanent!! Uncondional acceptance.!!
Fatherhood is construcve communicaon and
an authority that is right and true.!!
! Fatherhood is a pivotal turning point in a
man’s life. When a man accepts the call to fatherhood
it is among the greatest changes in his life and in his
development as a person. “Being a father is not easy.
It takes lots of pa$ence and grace”, said Pope Francis.!!
To all the dads who lead, love and support their family,
we thank you. You are a hero. “A good father is one of
the most unsung, unpraised, unnoced, and yet one of
the most valuable assets in our society”, said the late
Billy Graham. Fathers, stay the course. Be involved
with your children. Be paent, encouraging and an in-
spiring presence in the lives of your children. Dads, re-
membering what ma+ers most can be your guide when
the way seems unclear. Being present is the greatest
present of all! Best wishes to all Dads for a !
! Happy Father’s Day.!!
Caught in the Act. . . . !Thank you to Judy Oswald and Pa+y Marno who are
always willing and available to help in our parish office.
They are wonderful stewards who generously give of
their me to help with data entry, bullen inserts and
general office assistance. Thank you for all you do. God
bless you for your stewardship. !

Osteoporosis ~ Osteoporosis is a common problem that causes bones to be thin, weakened and easily bro-ken. Women are at a higher risk after menopause due to lower levels of estrogen, a female hormone that helps to maintain bone mass. Some of the most important treat-ments for preventing osteoporosis include diet, exercise and not smoking. Diet!consume an adequate number of protein and calories as well as optimal amounts of calci-um and vitamin D, which are essential in helping to main-tain proper bone formation and density. Premenopausal women and men should consume at least 1000 mg of calcium per day. Postmenopausal women should con-sume 1200 mg of calcium per day. However, you should not consume more than 2000 mg of calcium per day. The main sources of calcium are cottage cheese, yogurt, hard cheese and green vegetables such as kale and broccoli. Vitamin D intake!Men over 70 and postmeno-pausal women should consume 800 international units of vitamin D each day. 600 international units is suggested for premenopausal women and younger men. Alcohol, caffeine and salt intake!Drinking more than 2 drinks per day can increase the risk of fracture due to increased risk of falling and poor nutrition. Exercise!Recommend exer-cising for at least 30 minutes three times per week. Physical activity reduces the risk of hip fracture in older women as a result of increased muscle strength. Smok-ing!Smoking cigarettes is known to speed bone loss. Falls!Taking measures to prevent falls can decrease the risk of fractures. Examples are removing loose rugs and electrical cords that could lead to tripping, slipping and falling. Providing adequate lighting in all areas inside and around the home, including stairwells and entrance ways. Avoid walking on slippery surfaces, such as ice or wet or polished floors. Avoid walking in unfamiliar areas outside. Review medications that may increase the risk of falls with your doctor. Visit an eye doctor to optimize vision.
