I will not be afraid - Psalm 23
Written by: Rev Richard Fox
Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid,
LORD, for you are with me. Your shepherd's rod and staff protect
me. (verse 4) (read Psalm 32)
The little boy lost his way in the maze at the playground. He was scared. He
couldn't see over the top or to either side. When he went backwards or
forwards, he ran into dead ends. Panic set in. Finally, exhausted, he stood still
and screamed, 'Daddy!'
‘It's all right, son, don't be afraid. I can hear you.’ It was his dad. ‘Listen to my
voice, walk towards it and you'll soon be with me.’
Is life dark and bleak for you? Are you lost? Are you running into dead ends?
Maybe you are going through some personal anguish, either mental or
physical.
Be still and call out to your heavenly Father. He will hear you. Listen to his
voice and he will guide you and keep you from harm. You, too, can say with
the psalm writer, 'Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be
afraid, Lord, for you are with me'.
Dear Lord, my good shepherd, guide me and keep me always in
your care. Help me to stay focused on listening to your voice and to
find peace and rest in you. Amen.
(adapted by Pastor Richard Fox from a devotion written by Grace Bock in the LCA
book “Assurance for each day”.

175th LSA Celebrations As part of the ongoing 175th Celebrations of Lutheran schools in Australia,
each school has been invited to plant a commemorative tree to mark the
occasion. Please note—there has been a change of date for our tree
planting...this will now happen next Friday 15 August, immediately after
chapel (approx 9.15am). Everyone is welcome to come along to witness this
and join together for tea and coffee following the short ceremony.

Hand, Foot and Mouth
Disease
There has been another case of Hand, foot and
mouth disease in the school this week. Please
see last week’s newsletter for further
information regarding this viral infection and
remember, if any person in your family develops
any of the symptoms mentioned, we recommend
that you make an appointment with your GP
immediately and inform them that there have
been a couple of cases of Hand, foot and mouth
disease in our school community.
Excitement is building as we look forward to our
four performances next week of Cinderella—The
Musical. The students and their teachers have
been working very hard to prepare for this
fantastic musical event on our school calendar.
Thank you for returning your ticket order forms.
Tickets have been issued this week and we can
advise that there are still tickets available for the
matinee performances next Monday 11 August
(1.30pm) and Tuesday 12 August (1.30pm). If
you would like additional tickets for either of
those performances, please contact the school
office with your request.
As we can only comfortably hold 300 people in
the hall, this is the maximum number of tickets
we can allocate for each performance. Please
understand that we will not be able to admit
anyone to the performance without a ticket.
For the matinee which begins at 1.30pm, the
doors to the performance space will be locked
until 1.00pm. Audience members will enter
through the double doors in the foyer by the
school reception desk. For the evening
performances, which begin at 7pm, only one
door to the facility will be open and that will be
the front door, which will open at 6.30pm.
Everyone will need to enter through that door,
including the student performers and ticket
holders.
Note—parents/caregivers collecting children
from SPLOSHC next Tuesday and Thursday
should also be mindful that the back gate will
be locked at 6pm.
We trust that these procedures will ensure that
we have a safe place in which to share the
performance will you all.
Illnesses A reminder to all families – please do not send
your children to school if they are sick. There
are a number of coughs/colds/tummy bugs going
around in our community at the moment. As
we all know, children have an amazing capacity
to pass on their unwanted bugs to others. In
the interests of keeping our community as
healthy as possible, please do not
send your children back to school
until they are well again. We really
appreciate your support with this.
Information for parents regarding
payment of School, ELC and SPLOSHC Fees via the LCA Online Donations &
Payments website
Did you know that the LCA Online Donations
& Payments website (https://donation.lca.org.au)
has recently been upgraded to allow a better
user experience on all devices, including iPhones
and iPads.
Advice from one of our parents is that the
update is a good improvement and makes
payment easier now, for those wishing to use
this payment method!
Skipping Squad
Please note—the skipping squad (Years 5-7) will
begin at 8am on Tuesday 19 August (Week 5).
Family Service Everyone is warmly invited to attend this
Sunday’s Family Service at 10am where our
beautiful Early Learning Centre students will
have special involvement.
Connor Tothill from Room 6 (Miss Schutz) has
lost his school sports jacket (size 8 and
labelled). Please check to see if your child has
inadvertently brought it home or put it in their
bag. Thank you.

IB Learner Profile
Primary Years Programme (PYP)
The Learner Profile
At St Peters Lutheran, we encourage our students to be:
Principled
“…do not pervert justice by siding with the
crowd…” Exodus 23:2
Students who are PRINCIPLED act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of
fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and communities.
They are accustomed to seeking and evaluating a range of points of view, and are willing
to grow from the experience.
How can parents help to develop students who are Principled at home?
Involve your child in deciding on the rules for a game or activity and ensure that
they stick to the ones that have been decided upon.
Encourage your child to play games that involve teams. Discuss with your child
the qualities of a team player. What sort of person would they want on their
team?
When your child wins a game, insist that he or she is a well-mannered winner.
They might thank their opponent or shake hands with them if it’s appropriate.
When playing a game, don’t change the rules or let your child win. Being a
gracious loser is just as important as being a good winner.

On behalf of the entire school community, I would like to say an enormous thank you to Narelle and her team for a fantastic
Quiz Night on Saturday. It was wonderful to see the Big Room bursting at the seams with so many creative people dressed as movie characters/stars for the night. It was encouraging to have quite a few people attend who are not directly connected
to our school, nice to have them see our community in action (even though they walked away with most of the prizes). Thanks also to all of you who donated goods, we had so many special things to hand out as prizes. If you see Narelle,
Melissa, Kate, Janine, Jenna or Dy (who did I miss?), thank them personally for their most outstanding efforts. Mark
