Receive Art Education at World Class

Museum: Art Institute of Chicago ________________________________________________________________________________________

The entire 7th grade class at St. Mary Catholic Community School recently took a field trip to The Art

Institute of Chicago. It turned out to be a delightful and informative experience.

Art teachers Mrs. Carrie Kirby and Mrs. Morag Thompson organized the trip.

Picasso, VanGogh, Monet, O’Keefe and Hopper are a few of the painters the group enjoyed viewing

as well as the current exhibit, “Saints and Heroes: Art of Medieval and Renaissance

Europe.” Docents added to the enhanced learning with particular insight into the worlds of the

artists and the work viewed.

The elegant, world class museum will be a great memory for all who attended the event.

St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point was opened in 1872. The school offers grade

levels Junior Pre-Kindergarten (for three year olds) through eight. St. Mary’s faculty teaches a rich

curriculum supported by cutting-edge technology. All students take art and music class every week at

every grade level. To learn more about St. Mary’s School or schedule a tour,

visit stmarycp.org/school. The school is currently accepting applications for new students for 2017-

2018 school year.

Art Institute 1: St. Mary’s 7th graders Elizabeth Pelicane, Kendall Miller, and Larame Gough admire

medieval armor worn by both rider and steed.

Art Institute 2: St. Mary’s students learn about technique and subject matter in “A Sunday

Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” by Seurat. This painting, made famous by the movie

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, is sometimes referred to as “The Ferris Bueller Painting.”
