MESSAGE FROM OUR DENTAL THERAPISTS Please could all dental forms be returned to St Mary’s school office or the dental clinic as no treat-ment can begin without signed consent. Our policy is we only send two forms homes and then if we do not received one back your child will be put forward 12 months resulting in incomplete treatment for that year. Children who require more than one visit will receive an appointment in the post, as we require parents and caregivers to attend these treatments. Thank you. Dental Therapists.

CHILD RESTRAINT LAWS ARE CHANGING. From 1 November child safety restraint laws state that you must correctly secure your child in an approved child restraint if one is available in the vehicle ( and if not in any child re-straint or safety belt that is available). Until 31 October 2013— this applies from their 5th birthday until their 8th birthday. From 1 November—this new rule applies from their 7th birth-day until their 8th birthday. These changes will help reduce preventable deaths and seri-ous injuries to children travelling in vehicles.’ Your child restraint must be fitted correctly. For expert advice contact a child restraint technician via www.nzta.govt.nz/childrestraints.

CELEBRATING OUR CULTURES

Punjab region, India Hello—Sat shir akall

Tarshdeep Johal—

Seasons is a peer support grief and loss programme for

children and young people who are missing someone im-portant from their daily life.

This could be through death or major illness, separation or divorce, imprisonment of a family member or other major family change.

Seasons groups are available for children aged between 5 and 18. Seasons groups are held each term in both Hastings and Taradale.

We are now taking enrolments for Term 4, 2013. For more information contact the programme coordinators

Jo and Sandie on 873 4962.

NETBALL The season is now all but over with only 2 of our intermediate teams still having a game to play this coming Wednesday 28 August. Two of our interme-diate teams made semi-finals; one going onto the

finals and the other playing off for 3rd and 4th this coming Wednesday. Progress has been made across the teams, with Kauri managing to reduce the deficit against Puketapu School by 27 goals which was most pleasing. Congratulations to all players, coaches and supporters who helped our students to be part of an enjoyable and successful season. Special thanks must go to the coaches, without whose help we would not have been able to enter 6 teams into this years competition. They are Donna Cameron, Marie Brady, Cat Kynoch, Michelle Edwards, Katy Kerins and Leeanne Nelson. St Mary's is very lucky to have a community that encourage and support each other and our students so willingly. Students in Year 4, 5 & 6 who have played netball this year are being given

a survey form to complete, which will help the Junior Netball Council decide what approach they will be taking with netball in 2014. This may include a decision about whether or not people would like the netball to be played mid-week or on a Satur-day. Please complete the survey and return to the office as soon as possible. Denise Haronga, Teacher in Charge Netball. THANK YOU FROM THE JUNIOR DEPARTMENT Please pass on our thanks to all the Grandparents who were able to come and share last Friday morning with the Junior chil-dren. The children enjoyed sharing their activities with them. Thank you for providing morning tea for the grandparents. Stephanie Shaw, Team Leader

helicopters. Renee Jackson, Class Teacher
