Teaching and Learning

at St Mary’s School

We aim to educate the whole child, so that they can be caring, capable and responsible members of the community. We expect that children will make expected progress, and we design our learning to give children the opportunities to develop skills that they can apply independently and in new contexts. This what we mean when we use the term ‘Mastery’.

ü High expectations for everyone

ü Good progress for everyone ü Equal opportunities ü Every child valued as an

individual ü Challenging learning ü A supportive environment ü Development of positive

attitudes and skills ü Successful learners

Our Core Pedagogy: we educate the whole child

The development of well-being alongside learning skills so that learners make progress and are successful

A rich engaging, varied and interconnected curriculum

High expectations - support and challenge for every learner

Lessons that are focused and clear, and provide opportunities for practise and application

Promote resilience, curiosity, and critical thinking

Adapt style of teaching to the purpose of the lesson

This core pedagogy applies to all children and staff in all lessons.
