St Mary’s Catholic Parish Warwick Vision Statement
To live the Gospel by celebrating together, sustaining a welcoming parish
and serving Jesus Christ through the joys and sorrows of our wider
community. PLEASE TAKE THIS BULLETIN WITH YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE
DO NOT RETURN IT TO THE HOLDER/STAND
St Mary’s Parish Warwick, in the Diocese of Toowoomba, is committed to the care, wellbeing and protection of children, young people and people at risk in our community. We uphold that child protection and the dignity of every person is the responsibility of every adult.
CATHOLIC SEASON OF CREATION The Season will run for the four Sundays of
September each year. This aligns with Protesant
schemas. It also aligns with the Orthodox liturgical
calendar which begins 1st September. Some
communities finish celebrations on the Feast of St
Francis on 4th October.
God’s grace is active in both the goodness of
creation and in addressing human abuse of creation.
An emphasis on the ‘nice’ parts of creation is not
enough. Remembrance of God’s graces in the
totality of creation history leads humanity to feel grief and lament for abuses, to ask for
forgiveness and guidance to heal. The God-Earth-Humanity relationship is the touch
stone (LS #66).
PRIEST’S RETIREMENT FOUNDATION
Currently, we support 17 retired priests in our Dioceses. These men are in varying stages
of ill-health and continue to help in the mission of the Church to the best of their abilities.
Due to age/health issues, they have forgone their formal Parish appointments but are still
very much a valued part of our diocesan life. Money raised from the appeal assists them
financially and supplements their aged pensions.

First reading Ezekiel 33:7–9 If you do not speak to the wicked man, I will hold you responsible for his death. Responsorial psalm Psalm 94(95):1–2, 6–9 R. O that today you would listen to his voice! Harden not your hearts. Second reading Romans 13:8–10 Your only debt should be the debt of mutual love. Gospel acclamation 2 Corinthians 5:19 God was in Christ, to reconcile the world to himself; and the Good News of reconciliation he has entrusted to us. Gospel Matthew 18:15–20 If your brother listens to you, you have won back your brother.
REFLECTION
The gospel readings for this week and next week come from a section of Matthew that deals with ways the community might regulate its behaviour. Clearly there were some in the group who were behaving in ways that brought the community into disrepute and were contrary to the teaching of Jesus. The question was how the community should confront such issues of human sinfulness and help each other in the spirit of love that Jesus professed. Matthew recalls the words of Jesus to sug-gest a way forward in this dilemma. This text comes immediate-ly after the parable of the lost sheep, where the shepherd ex-pends all possible effort to find the lost one and bring it back to the fold. For Matthew, the main point of that parable is the joy that the master expresses when the lost one returns. That point is emphasised in this text when Matthew again suggests that all possible effort must be made to correct those in the community who err before taking the final step of exclusion from the group. Even then, all is not lost, and Matthew reminds his community that they should pray together and that their prayers will be heard.

‘turning a blind eye’ to a wrongdoing or confronting the
culprit? Share your experiences and explain what you did to

PRAYER FOR PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY
Almighty and all-merciful God, lover of the human race, healer of all our wounds, in whom there is no shadow of death, save us in this time of crisis; grant wisdom and courage to our leaders; watch over all medical people as they tend the sick and work for a cure; stir in us a sense of solidarity beyond all isolation; if our doors are closed, let our hearts be open. By the power of your love destroy the virus of fear, that hope may never die and the light of Easter, the triumph of life, may shine upon us and the whole world. Through Jesus Christ, the Lord risen from the dead, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen. Holy Mary, health of the sick, pray for us. St Joseph, guardian of us all, pray for us.
The Most Reverend Mark Coleridge
CHILD PROTECTION PRAYER
Gracious God, you love and care for all of your
children, especially the smallest and most vulnerable.
We entrust to you the lives of children and adults at
risk who have been sexually abused, and whose trust
and innocence have been destroyed.
Help us to hear their cries of pain and to take
responsibility for those whose lives have been broken.
Help us to recognise the hurt felt by those wounded by
abuse, and the failure to be heard.
We pray that with the help of your grace communities
and families will find understanding and support, so
that now and in the future their wounds may be healed
and they may find lasting peace. Let your grace and
love fall gently now upon our children, giving them the
inner strength, peace and resilience to seek out
assistance when required.
We ask this prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your
Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.
Amen.
