ADVENT 2019
Today we begin the journey of Advent, a time of hope and anticipation of the coming of the Lord at Christmas, but also for Christ's second coming. Take time to reflect how you will prepare spiritually for Christmas this year. The signs and sounds of Christmas already surround us. We hope you will live the four weeks of Advent, which begins on December 2 in the spirit of prayerful waiting.
An Advent Thought: SILENCE There are no words for the deepest things. Words become feeble when mystery visits and prayer moves into silence. In post-modern culture the ceaseless din of chatter has killed our acquaintance with silence. Consequently, we are stressed and anxious. Silence is a fascinating presence. Silence is shy; it is patient and never draws attention to itself. Without the presence of silence, no word could ever be said or heard. Our thoughts constantly call up new words. We become so taken with words that we barely notice the silence, but the silence is always there. The best words are born in the fecund silence that minds the mystery. Plan a time each day for prayer and reflection – In the midst of all the activity, the quiet reflection renews the soul. Do God’s work of justice through your gift to the Giving Tor your personal work of charity Invite a friend or family member to join with you at Mass.

Hoy empezamos el Adviento. El Adviento es un tiempo de espera. Esperamos la llegada del Señor. No sabemos el día ni la hora pero el Señor ha prometido volver. Nos preparamos y esperamos para la celebración de la
llegada del Señor en nuestra historia, la Navidad. Las señales y sonidos de la Navidad ya están alrededor nuestro. Esperamos que usted viva las cuatro semanas de Adviento, que empieza el 2 de Diciembre, en un espíritu de oración y esperanza.
Un Pensamiento para Adviento: SILENCIO No hay palabras para las cosas más profundas. Las palabras se vuelven débiles cuando las visitas de misterio y la oración se silencian. En la cultura posmoderna, el ruido incesante de la cháchara ha matado nuestra apreciación del silencio. En consecuencia, estamos estresados y ansiosos. El silencio es una presencia fascinante. Our Lady of Guadalupe We traditionally associate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with Mexico since the apparition occurred there, but Pope Pius XII declared Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, as Patroness of ALL the Americas, North and South. This declaration was affirmed by Pope John Paul II at the Synod of the Americas in his call for greater unity and collaboration among the churches of all the nations of the Americas – recognizing the uniqueness and richness of all devotions to Mary. Let us join together in the Mexican tradition of “las Mañanitas” and celebrate an early Mass together on Wednesday, December 12th at 5:00 a.m. with the typical offertory accompanied by mariachis.

FEAST OF SAINT NICHOLAS – DECEMBER 6 AN ADVENT SAINT
This 4th Century Saint is loved by children throughout the world because of his association with the gift-bearing Santa Claus. We know little about him except that he lived in Myra (modern day Turkey) and as a bishop during a time of great persecution. According to legend, he anonymously provided dowries for three daughters of a poor man. This story evolved into our modern custom of gift giving. A suggestion to celebrate this day: Do some random “act of kindness” for a person in need.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION:
THE RITE OF ACCEPTANCE
On Sunday, November 25th, men and
women, children and teens of our
community took another step in their
journey of faith toward the celebration of
the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism,
Confirmation, Eucharist) at Easter.
God has called them to a deeper relationship with
Him and the Church. They now take a step to enter
the Catechumenate — a time of further preparation.
They gather each week for classes to learn more
about our faith. They join with us at the 8 a.m. and
10:30 a.m. Masses for the Liturgy of the Word and
are dismissed before the Creed to continue their
reflection on the Word of God. We hope you will
take a moment to introduce yourselves to them.
RITO DE INICIACIÓN CRISTIANA EL RITO DE ACEPTACIÓN
El domingo, 25 de Noviembre, hombres y mujeres, niños y adolescentes de nuestra comunidad tomaron otro paso en su jornada de fe, hacia la celebración de los Sacramentos de
Iniciación (Bautismo, Confirmación, Eucaristía) en la Vigilia Pascual. Dios los ha llamado a una relación más profunda con Él y la Iglesia. Ahora toman un paso más para entrar en el Catecumenado – tiempo de intensa preparación. Se reúnen cada semana para clases y así aprender más a cerca de nuestra fe. También se unen a nosotros en la Misa de las 8 a.m. y 10:30 a.m. para la Liturgia de la Palabra y los despedimos antes de profesar el Credo para continuar su reflexión a cerca de la Palabra de Dios. present these certificates, as needed, throughout the
year.
Please take a tag and return your gift to the special
locked box designated for this purpose. May you be
blessed a hundredfold. Remember, these are the

How To Prepare an Advent Wreath
You may buy a wreath or arrange evergreen branches in a circular tray.
You need 4 candles, 3 purple or blue and 1 pink, or 4 white candles and 4 bows.
Arrange the candles in the wreath. Attach a bow to each candle.
The four candles of the Advent wreath represent the four weeks of the first season of the liturgical year, Light one of the violet candles marking the season's first week and pray:
Lord our God, we praise You for your Son, Jesus Christ: He is Emmanuel, the hope of the peoples,
He is the wisdom that teaches and guides us, He is the Savior of every nation.
Lord God, let your blessing come upon us
as we light the candles of this wreath. May the wreath and its light
be a sign of Christ’s promise to bring us salvation.
May He come quickly and not delay. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
