Hail Mary, Full of Grace
Dear Parishioners,
October 7 is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, and with that, the Rosary Congress begins today with all the Sunday Masses being that of Our Lady of the Rosary. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament begins after the 5:00 pm Mass and Eucharistic Procession.
The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary commemorates the 1571 victory of Spanish and Italian naval forces against an increasingly aggressive invasion by the Turkish Ottoman Empire. Pope St. Pius V attributed the victory to the interces-sion of the Blessed Mother, who was being invoked throughout the threatened lands by people praying the Rosary.
The Rosary Congress will conclude with the 5:15 Mass and Eucharistic Procession on October 13. On that day in 1917, the Blessed Mother appeared one last time to three peasant children in the farming town of Fatima, Portugal. During this apparition, some 70,000 people who had gathered in anticipation of children’s vision of Mary, reported seeing the sun “dance.” Our Lady identified herself as “Our Lady of the Rosary,” and encouraged the children to pray the Rosary daily. Our Lady promised that devoutly praying the Rosary would bring an end to the Great War along with peace.
Please join me and your fellow parishioners in adoring the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and praying the Rosary throughout this week. The intention for the Congress will be healing and reform in the Church. Healing for all the vic-tims of abuse by clergy and by anyone ministering on behalf of the Church. Reform so that these crimes are dealt with justly and always guarded against so that they will never happen again. Let us be inspired by the Blessed Moth-er’s message and her ability to intercede for us so powerfully in overcoming evil. Let us pray confidently that she will help overcome the evils that are afflicting the Church so badly right now.
Please find in the bulletin the financial report for St. Mary’s and St. Michael’s for fiscal year 2018. Don’t hesitate to ask me, Mike McCoy (business manager) or Steve Hummel (chair of the Finance Committee) if you have any ques-tions.
Finally, I’m not lazy, I am deliberately leaving the following text in place: Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. We can speak for a few minutes after Mass or you can ask Paula to set up an appoint-ment. I am happy even just to listen. I will admit that my schedule is very full these days, and it may take a little crea-tivity and/or patience to find a time to talk. But it is important to me, and we will find a way to do so.
You are in my daily prayers.
May God bless you and keep you in His care, and may the Blessed Mother intercede for you,
Father Cibelli

40 DAYS FOR LIFE: The Fall Campaign of 40 Days
for Life - Wednesday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Nov.
4, 2018. God is faithful, and He will use your faithful
prayer vigil presence in front of the local abortion facility
at 160 W. Washington St. to save the lives of the most
innocent among us, the preborn children, and their moth-
ers from a lifetime of regret. We do not attempt to cover
with our presence the entire 24 hours/day, 7 days per
week of the 40 days campaign; but is it too much to ask of
every one of us (who is physically capable) that we put
our faith in action and come to pray in front of this facility
at least once during the 2 days each week this place per-
forms abortions? Former abortion workers have stated
that the more people who are praying in front of the facili-
ty absolutely impacts the number of women who go
through with their abortion. Our prayerful presence sends
a powerful message to the community about the tragic re-
ality of abortion (many people stop and tell us they did not
even know what happens here). It also serves as a call to
repentance for those who work at the abortion center and
those who patronize the facility. See Right to Life notice
in bulletin for more details.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is holding its national orientation program—Ozanam Orien-tation—on Saturday, November 3, 2018, 8:30am – 3:30 pm, at The National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Seton. 339 S. Seton Ave., Em-mitsburg, MD 21727. The program provides an overview of the history, spirituality, organi-zation, and current endeavors of the Society, as well as a home visit segment. New members, prospective members, and interested persons are introduced to what it means to be a Vincen-tian. Existing members are reacquainted with Vincentian spirituality, heritage, and practices; gain new insights, sharing and learning with members from other parish Conferences. There is no fee to attend but registration is required. Registration includes breakfast, lunch, and all materials. To register please contact Amy Lamke 410-662-0500, ext. 207 or [email protected] Mail-in forms are also available in the church vestibule.
RESPECT LIFE
Right to Life: -- There's an abortion facility in Hager-stown at 160 W. Washington St, Suite 100, just 3 doors from St. Mary Church, and there's a serious need for adults and children to be there praying for a change of mind of those entering. There's an opportunity for side-walk counseling if you're comfortable doing that, but first, prayer at the site is very powerful. Volunteers are needed 2 days each week: every Thursday and every other Tuesday from 9 to 11 AM; every other Saturday from 8 to 11 AM. Open Tuesday, October 9 and 23; Thurs-day, Oct 11, 18 and 25; and Saturday, October 20. We also need another "shift" to stay until the women come out after the abortion so we can provide some help. Please email Janet Neel [email protected] if you can help.

Stewardship St. Mary’s
The Sacrament of Baptism Baptism is God's most beautiful and magnificent gift…. We call it gift, grace, anointing, enlightenment, garment of immortality, bath of rebirth, seal, and most precious gift. It is called gift because it is conferred on those who bring nothing of their own; grace since it is given even to the guilty; Baptism because sin is buried in the water; anoint-ing for it is priestly and royal as are those who are anoint-ed; enlightenment because it radiates light; clothing since it veils our shame; bath because it washes; and seal as it is our guard and the sign of God's Lordship. St. Mary’s offers the gift of baptism on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month at 12:30pm. Baptism Class is scheduled the fir st Sunday of each month in the Conference Room of the Parish Center from 12:30 to 1:30pm. It is very important that babies be baptized as soon as pos-sible and preferably within six weeks of birth. Therefore, Fr. Cibelli is offering this sacrament more often. A good precedence would be, as soon as parents begin to an-nounce their pregnancy, to call and schedule their baptism agenda shortly after. Please keep in mind, Mass attendance is a requirement for the Sacrament of Baptism to occur. Call the Parish Office 301-739-0390 ext. 110, Paula will assist you.

NEEDED!!! VOLUNTEERS TO OPERATE RELIGIOUS
ARTICLES STORE Volunteers are extremely needed to help oper-ate the Religious Articles Store. If a full Sun-day morning is too long, we will try to accommo-date to your mass schedule. Example: If you at-tend the 7:30 AM Mass, you could operate the store after that mass and during the next mass which is the 9:30 Mass. Individuals attending the 9:30 AM Mass would operate the store during the 11:30 AM Mass until the church has cleared out. (This shift could possibly work for parents of CCD children eliminating the need to leave and come back). We still need to cover the 5:15 Mass on Saturday evening. Please consider volunteer-ing your time to this worthy need. We would like to keep St. Mary’s Religious Articles Store open and available for your religious needs. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Call Joan Bernhard 301-745-6697 or the Parish Office 301-739-0390, ext. 110.
