Pastor’s Weekly Message
Word of Life
P. 2
Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018
The Joy of the Resurrection Alleluia, Christ is risen! This is real, it is not April Fool even though today is the First of April. “Exult, let them exult, the host of heaven!” We heard those words at the Easter Vigil when the priest sang Exsultet, the Easter Proclamation to set the mood for the season of Easter. We rejoice because our Lord Jesus Christ, our King, is risen! Yes, we can shout ‘alleluia’, sing the Gloria and ring the bells again because by his resurrection, he has conquered sin and death. Darkness has vanished because He who is the light of the world has triumphed over the grave.
Easter Vigil is the most important night and Easter Sunday is the most important day of the church. Last night, we had the long but beautiful liturgies of the Light, the Word, the Sacraments of Initiation and the Eucharist. From the Pascal Candle, the faithful received light for their own candles. The lighted Pascal candle contains a twofold symbolism. It reminds us of the pillar of fire that helped the Israelites to see in the darkness of the night when they fled the land of Egypt, and it symboliz-es Christ, the light of the world. In the readings, we recalled God’s love for us and his plans for our salvation. It was a night we rededicated ourselves to God who loved us so much when we renewed our baptis-mal commitments. We also joyfully welcomed new members into the church through the sacraments of initiation. For the children and adults that completed their initiation in the faith, last night was a night they will never forget. It is the beginning of their new life in Jesus and the church. We pray that the joy that filled their hearts will always radiate in them as they follow Jesus in their daily living.
Today is a day of joy as the psalmist today says “this is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad” (Psalm 118:24). The second reading from first Corinthians invites us to ‘celebrate the feast.’ Be-cause Jesus rose from the dead, life cannot be the same again. Crea-tion has been recreated or renewed; our mortal life is now assured of immortality in Christ. The joy that fills our hearts and minds today must be sustained. Many Christians are in church on Easter Sunday to cele-brate their victory in Christ recognizing that after the cross comes the crown. In our daily pains and struggles, we must always be focused on Jesus who is our help and our salvation. Every Sunday is a mini-Easter so let us make out time for God every Sunday to come into his house to worship, pray, fellowship and celebrate with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. The Catechism teaches that the day of the Resurrection is the begin-ning of the new creation. "Jesus rose from the dead 'on the first day of the week' (John 20:1). Because it is the 'first day,' the day of Christ's Resurrection recalls the first creation. Because it is the 'eighth day' following the Sabbath, (Mk 16:1) it symbolizes the new creation ush-ered in by Christ's Resurrection. For Christians it has become the first of all days, the first of all feasts, the Lord's Day - Sunday: We all gather on the day of the sun, for it is the first day [after the Jewish Sabbath, but also the first day] when God, separating matter from darkness, made the world; on this same day Jesus Christ our Savior rose from the dead" (St. Justin, Apology). (Catechism of the Catholic Church #2174)
The resurrection of Jesus truly has a deeper meaning for us more than unbelievers. May Christ’s resurrection lead us to victory and be a source of courage for us all year long. Happy Easter to you all!! Divine Mercy Sunday: Next Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday. To cele-brate this special day, we will have a special celebration at 3PM with the Exposition of the Eucharist and the Divine Mercy prayer. I invite you to join us for this celebration. St. Faustina longs to pray before the Blessed Sacrament as she says in her Diary #1591:
My heart is drawn there where my God is hidden, Where He dwells with us day and night, Clothed in the White Host; He governs the whole world, He communes with souls. My heart is drawn there where my God is hiding Where His love is immolated. But my heart senses that the living water is here; It is my living God, though a veil hides Him.
School’s Spring Carnival: Join our school in her Spring Carnival fun and fundraising event on Saturday April 7th from 11AM to 8PM on our parish grounds. This is going to be fun for the kids and adults as well. There will be carnival rides for the kids, food and games, silent auction and raffle drawings for all. There will be crawfish bowls for sale and a Sabine Connection Zydeco band will be live on stage from 3PM to 5PM. Come with your family and friends to have fun and raise funds to support our Catholic school. I thank the school principal, Joshua Raab, and the development director, Eddie Green and all the volunteers and planners for their hard work.
A new counseling ministry in our parish: We welcome Laura Aguirre, MA, LPC-Intern, a licensed professional counselor intern to our parish counseling ministry. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University. Laura is part of the Rejoice Counseling Apostolate who has partnered with our parish to provide onsite professional counseling services. You can learn more and schedule an appointment by calling 844-295-3167 or at www.myparishcounseling.com/st-mm.
MSP Annual Retreat/Meeting: Fr. Tony and I will be away this week Monday through Friday for the annual retreat and meeting of the Missionary Society of St. Paul priests working in the United States. We expect all 50 MSP priests working in the United States to gather in prayer and review our apostolate at the Holy Name Retreat Center in Houston. Keep us in your prayers. We invite you to join us for the closing Mass at St. Nicholas Church in Houston on Friday April 6th at 6:30pm followed by a reception in the parish hall.
Fr. Felix Osasona ([email protected])
May the Risen Christ grant us joy as we follow Him,
embracing God’s gift of life; We pray to the Lord:

Pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Rome November 4-15, 2018
Join Fr. Tony on an inspiring pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Rome in November 4-15, 2018.
This will be an exciting and prayerful time to visit the historical sites where Jesus walked and
preached, including Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Sea of Galilee, Mount Tabor, Cana, Nazareth,
Capernaum, Mount of Beatitudes, Jordan Valley, and the Dead Sea. The pilgrimage will also take us to Rome, the “Eternal City” where we will visit the Basilicas of St. Mary Major, St. John Lateran,
St. Paul Outside the Walls, and the St. Peter’s Basilica and attend a papal audience with
Pope Francis.
If you are interested, you can pick up a brochure in the narthex after Mass or in the parish office during the week.
Spotlight on Ministry
Eucharistic Linen Ministry
Did you know …….. St. Mary Magdalene Church
uses 75 – 100 pieces of altar linens each week.
These items consist of corporals, purificators, and
towels. These items are used at every Mass. The
purificators (approximately 75/week) are used to
wipe the chalice after each person receives the
Blood of Christ.
Volunteers soak, wash, and iron these items week-
ly. The wine is easily removed with pre-soaking,
however lipstick, especially long lasting lipstick,
must be spot treated prior to washing.
A few more volunteers are needed in this ministry.
Please consider giving one week per month to
launder these necessary items.

Divine Mercy Image The Image reveals the entire story of Mercy. It is a summary of
the whole Paschal mystery (The Passion, Death, the Resurrection,
and Ascension; the whole Gospel; the whole Catechism; the
whole plan of mercy.
The Divine Mercy Image must be viewed as an icon, not an idol.
An icon draws us to God. The Image symbolically represents
Christ. It leads us beyond itself into a state of contemplation of a
divine reality. The person who venerates the Image Venerates
Christ. Jesus is Divine Mercy Incarnate.
Christ is the “image of the invisible God”. God the Father
“allows us to see Him in Christ”.
Look at the hands of Christ. His right hand is blessing us. Bless-
ing is a divine and life-giving action and the source is the Father.
All blessing comes from the Father who, through Jesus, pours the
Holy Spirit into our hearts. The Father’s hand is always blessing
and only blessing: From the beginning to the end of time the
whole of God’s work is blessing.
Jesus is dressed in a white garment. He is the one great High
Priest. We are all called to share in the one priesthood of Christ
and pass on the Father’s blessing.
His left hand is “touching the garment at the breast” and the gar-
ment is “slightly drawn” aside”. The thumb and index finger of
Christ’s left hand are “drawing open the garment in the area of
the heart,” which is not visible. This is a gesture of invitation.
This is Christ inviting us to come into His Heart, to rest in His
Heart. This expresses a profound and virtually incomprehensible
reality; the mystery of God’s unlimited mercy.
The two rays denote Blood and Water. The pale ray represents
the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the Sacrament of Baptism. Also,
the Sacrament of Reconciliation, because Confession is an exten-
sion of Baptism. It is like a second Baptism which we can do
repeatedly and by doing so renew the grace of baptism.
The red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls and the
Eucharist. A clear reminder of Christ, fulfilling on the Cross His
gift of the Eucharist at the Last Supper, when He proclaimed the
“new covenant” in His blood. Also, the Sacrament of Reconcilia-
tion. Christ’s blood being shed for the forgiveness of our sins.
Christ’s feet speaks to us of His mercy. Christ’s left foot is
slightly forward of the right to show us that he is in a walking
position, and that His “entire frontal position” exhibits peace. He
is mercy in motion, always seeking us, always wanting to be
close to us, and fill us with peace “that surpasses all understand-
ing”.
Christ revealed to St. Faustina: When you go to Confession, to
this fountain of My mercy, the Blood and Water which came
forth from My Heart always flows down upon your soul.
Diary, 1602
The rays also speak to us of God’s self-emptying; love. No
where is this love more completely expressed and manifested
than at the piercing of Christ’s Heart on the Cross. This is Divine
Mercy.
The Image is a visual reminder that Jesus has already fulfilled
His part of the Covenant. He is the perfect sacrifice and our
means of salvation. We fulfill our part of the covenant by open-
ing our hearts in Trust to Jesus.
Christ Himself told Faustina: My gaze from this Image is like
My gaze from the Cross. (Diary, 326).
With our eyes fixed on Jesus and his merciful gaze, we experi-
ence the love of the Most Holy Trinity. The Image is not just a
picture of
Jesus for us to look at. It is an icon that helps us enter the reality
of the way God looks at us, that helps us to see with our inner
eyes the way God loves, and thus come to know our Father God
as He is, “merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in
steadfast love”
Graces of the Image The Lord himself explains:
I promise that he soul that will venerate this image will
not perish. I also promise victory over (its) enemies
already here on earth, especially at the hour of death.
I myself will defend it as My own glory (Diary, 48).
I am offering people a vessel with which they are to keep
coming for graces to the fountain of mercy. That
vessel is this image with the signature: “Jesus I trust
in You” (Diary, 327).
By means of this Image, I shall be granting many graces
to souls; so, let every soul have access to it (Diary,
570).
Let the ray of graces enter your soul; they bring with
them light, warmth, and life (Diary, 1486).
The graces of My mercy are drawn by means of one ves-
sel only, and that is – Trust. The more a soul trusts,
the more it will receive. Souls that trust boundlessly
are a great comfort to Me, because I pour all the
treasures of My graces into them. When a soul ap-
proaches Me, with trust, I fill it with an abundance of
graces that it cannot contain them within itself, buts
radiates them to other souls. (Diary 1578, 1074).
Venerate the Image and say the Chaplets of Divine Mercy.

Breaking Open the Word for Families for Easter Sunday
HAPPY EASTER TO ALL! By Ginger Herrington
Reading 1: Acts 10:34a, 37-43 The Lord Jesus commissioned us to preach that He is appointed by God as
judge of the living and the dead. God so loved the world that He sent His only Son to redeem us. Jesus
taught us about God and showed us how to live righteously. He taught us how to pray. He established His
holy Catholic Church and is always with us in Word and Sacrament. Everyone who believes in Him will
receive forgiveness in His Name. Praise the Name of Jesus, our Savior!
Reading 2: Letter of St. Paul to the Colossians 3:1-4 Seek what is above, where Jesus is seated at the right hand of the
Father. Through our baptism, we died to our sins and live a new life with Jesus. Our destiny is to live with Jesus
forever in Heaven. Live obedient to the Ten Commandments and to Jesus’ Great Commandment: Love One Another –
and then you will live forever and always with Jesus. Jesus commanded us: Love God above all things and love your
neighbor and love one another as I have loved you.
Gospel: John 20:1-9 Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning; she ran to tell Peter and the
other disciples that the tomb was empty. Christ had arisen! The patron saint of our parish, St. Mary
Magdalene, was the first person to witness the Resurrection. She was a true disciple because she ran to tell
the Good News. Do you share the Good News with others? What news could be better than that Christ
lives?! And we live in Him.

ALLELUIA, He is Risen
During our exciting Lenten Mission, Fr. Robert inspired us to die to
ourselves and to rise in Christ, so we can be Radical Disciples. In his time,
Jesus was Radical, departing from orthodox Jewish tradition and ministry.
He embraced sinners, healed lepers, touched the unclean, fed the hungry
in body and spirit, and forgave the transgressions of others, even to His
death on a Cross. We have many opportunities at St. Mary Magdalene in
Adult Formation for you to grow in faith, learn within the community of
Christ, and serve the Lord in discipleship. As we enjoy the Easter Season,
watch for new sessions and events, and join us! If you have ideas for
adult learning programs, or any questions, please contact Judy Bitowf,
Director, Adult Formation, [email protected].

Mensaje del Párroco
P. 13
Donde su amor es inmolado Pero mi corazón siente que el agua viva está aquí;
