Margaret School.
Temporal Updates
Question: “What do the Boston Bruins and St. Margaret Church have in common?” Answer: “Sometimes, you get
benched!” Many of the 27-year-old chairs in the Church have been glued or screwed together to prevent them from
collapsing. Discussing the situation with the Trustees, Finance and Pastoral Councils, they concurred that it is time for
some updating. New choir chairs have been ordered and will arrive by Easter. The area of the north transept will have
new pews matching the originals in the center aisle sometime between mid-April and May.
Some lighting issues will also be addressed. Two of the LED flood lights (high above the tabernacle and the 13 th Station)
have been flickering for months. The electrician will determine whether the problem is with the bulbs or the fixtures.
Regardless…we do not want another fire! The lights at the top of the sanctuary arch were never replaced and are now
burnt out. These repairs and upgrades are the result of your generous donations to unbudgeted projects for the Church.
The remaining concern is the condition of the flat roofs. Stay tuned for more springtime news.

The Pastor’s Page
You may have seen another
extraordinary photo of Pope Francis break rank as he was
being escorted to hear confessions. He wanted to go to
confession first, and he did so to one of the priests
awaiting penitents. I can’t imagine the thoughts running
through that priest’s mind and heart as he sees Pope
Francis heading towards
HIM for confession. I
would be looking around
for the smelling salts!
Today’s Gospel of
the Raising of Lazarus (Jn.
11:1-45) is the last of the
“signs” in John’s Gospel.
The dramatic raising of the dead was the last straw for the
authorities; this man needs to be silenced. “So from that
time on they planned to kill him.” (vs. 53). I have always
been struck by the words of Jesus immediately after
Lazarus emerges from the tomb of death. It is spoken to
the crowds who came to mourn with Mary and Martha
over the death of their brother. The text reads, “And Jesus
said to them (i.e. the crowd), ‘Untie him, let him go.”
The gift of being set free is really the theme of the
entire Lenten Season. This metanoia (Greek for ‘change’)
is the whole purpose of our journey to Easter. Our
prayer, fasting, and charitable giving helps focus us on
the ultimate gift of new life in Christ. Next week is Palm
Sunday. Join us in celebrating the great events of our
salvation in Christ.
With prayers for the remainder of Lent,
~Monsignor Darcy
