Fifth Sunday of Easter
April 29, 2018
From your Pastor:
First Holy Communion Sunday is a big day for the parish. Our First Communicants have all reached the age of reason and have grown to a level of spiritual maturity that requires a new source of grace that will fortify them for the long road of life that lays ahead of them. They are changing quickly, and the Lord has ensured their souls will be endowed with His grace and presence in anticipation of the experiences and circumstances to come. This day, God willing, is the first of thousands of times they will receive the Lord into the core of their Being and be given the aid of supernatural nourishment. It is a most solemn and happy occasion. Additionally, their presence and witness today is an example for us all. What is more beautiful in the world than our sharp-dressed, freshly scrubbed boys complemented by our lily-white darling girls? Their reverence and excitement reminds us that the Eucharist is not just a ‘thing we do’ but an encounter with the Lord that is ever-new and most holy. Jesus came to give us life. This is the Bread of Life. The worthy souls of our children embolden us to live in purity and gratitude. The preparation for First Holy Communion day is not just for the wonder of what we witness at the Mass. The training they received this year serves as the bedrock for their Eucharistic life, and is a linchpin in their religious development that is vital to their Sacramental life as a whole; towards Confirmation and whatever God has planned after that. To this end, our parish is very grateful to our Religious Education teachers who volunteered to prepare them so well. This is an important day for our parish, for our children have received Our Lord at His command.

Support the Catholic Home Missions Appeal! Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the United States are considered home mission territory because they are unable to fund the essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support funds programs, such as religious education, seminary formation, and lay ministry training, to build vibrant faith communities right here in the United States. Please be generous. LIVE THE LITURGY Inspira on for the week...
"Let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth." Real love, especially unconditional love, cannot exist apart from action. We are called to bear much fruit and become Jesus' disciples. We live in a world that is suffering so badly. By our actions and the way we organize our lives, we can model the Gospel values that many no longer see as important. We can be healers who put mercy into action. We can choose to unconditionally respect human life and challenge those who do not. We can live nonviolent lives, resist the lust for power, and avoid greed in all its forms. It is difficult to live the Gospel message of love. We will often be met with rejection. We need to allow God to prune away everything that makes it difficult to love. Then we have to take the risk and call others to a higher standard no matter the price.
