St Lawrence & Mary Immaculate Parish Balcatta:
Parish Priest: Fr Emil Ciecierega SDS Assistant Priest: Fr Leonard Macionczyk SDS
Palm Sunday always reminds me how fickle us human beings can be.
Within one week of Jesus being hailed a King, he is crucified by many of the people in the same crowd.
May we have the courage and fortitude to stand up for what we believe.
I do remember the saying of be loyal to those who are not present.
In doing so, you build the trust of those who are present.
May we rejoice with our Risen Lord throughout Easter.
EASTER
The Season of Easter is about renewal and new beginnings. May we use this time to deepen our
relationship with God. The culminaton of our Easter activities will be Thursday afternoon at 2.10pm in
the Church, where the students from Year Three to Year Six will re-enact the Story of Easter from Palm
Sunday to the Resurrection. Please be aware of all the Easter services that are available at St Lawrence
Church throughout Easter.
EDUDANCE
What a wonderful afternoon yesterday to see the many talents of the
students of St Lawrence. I particularly enjoyed the smiles and the positive
attitude as each student had their moment to shine. It was pleasing to see
the whole community from Kindy to Year Six come together to celebrate
the gifts of God in our students. Thank you to Mrs Major and Miss Swain
for organising all the students. It was truly a fantastic afternoon.
FIRST AID
Today eight families from St Lawrence participated in the First
Aid Course focusing on safety of children. I would like to thank
the P&F who paid $10 of the $50 to support families in having a
better first aid knowledge.

It is hard to believe that this term is over! The children have
settled in really well and are a lovely group.
Thank you parents for your help and support this term which has
helped the children to feel happy and safe and for the classroom
to run smoothly.
Next term we will start with the theme of 'Autumn' then we will focus on 'Our Families' for a few
weeks. Do not forget the wonderful value of reading stories to your children over the holidays.
Enjoy the holiday break and have a happy and Holy Easter.
Mrs Simone Covich, Kindergarten Teacher
PRE PRIMARY
Wow! Term One is over, and wasn’t it just fantastic.
We have had a wonderful first term of learning, playing,
making friends and learning how to talk to our peers when we
have a problem. The Pre-Primary students have really enjoyed
learning about how they are special and that God loves each of
them just the way they are through our Term One theme and
Religious education units. The Pre-Primary students have also
been practising their letter sounds and blending letter sounds
together to make words. In Maths the Pre-Primary’s have been practising counting, writing and
matching numbers and number amounts for numbers 0 to 20 as well as making patterns with colours.
I would like congratulate all the students and their families for settling so well into the first term. Please
take the time now to relax and spent time together as a family. I look forward the seeing everyone in two
weeks.
Happy Easter, Miss Laura Byrne, Pre-Primary Teacher
YEAR ONE
What a great week we have had in Year One. Last week we ate some delicious watermelon that Mr
Tonge picked from the garden. Yesterday morning we went on our first excursion to the State Library
of Western Australia to learn more about the olden days. We saw how Perth has changed and also made
a postcard souvenir of our visit. We were able to sit in the Library and enjoy some of the great books
they have. Thank you to Mr Tonge for driving the bus and to Mrs Bilic, Mrs Di Trento, Mrs Siciliano
and Mrs Tamburri for their help at the Library. In the afternoon we had our Edu Dance concert and
'Who Let The Frogs Out?' was definitely a highlight from the concert. The children did a fabulous job
and most importantly had lots of fun! We have done so much learning this term and it is great to see
how far the children have already come. They have settled in to the routines of Year One and I can’t
wait for them to learn so many more wonderful things. It has been great to see the smiles on their faces
as they learn new things each day.
I would like to thank all the parents for their support in the classroom and at home this term. It is very
much appreciated and the children love having you help. We have worked really hard this term and all
the children are well deserving of some rest and relaxation. Please continue to read to or with your child
every day.
Wishing everyone a happy, safe and holy Easter. Enjoy the holidays with your family.
YEAR ONE – Excursion and Edudance
Mrs Roselyn Pizzino Year One Class Teacher.
YEAR TWO
It has been a pleasure meeting with so many parents over the past few weeks to discuss the progress of
our wonderful class members. We have been very proud of the effort that our students have put into
their work this term and it has also been lovely seeing the development in their social skills and
independent work habits. P lease note that we will be leading Assembly on Friday 5th
May, it would be
terrific to have lot of our parents and family to support us.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Easter break and looking forward to seeing our team members refreshed
and ready for a fabulous Term Two!
Mrs Jacki Tucker, Year Two Teacher
The children have worked very hard and have settled well into Year Two – they have adapted to the
Wednesday routines so very well. We have many wonderful times ahead during the rest of the year and
I look forward to helping the children in their learning journey with Mrs Tucker.
Now though, enjoy the wonderful Easter season and share in this special time for families.
Mrs Bozich, Year Two Teacher Wednesdays
YEAR THREE
We have come to the end of Term One.
Thank you to all the parents who have
helped listen to reading each morning.
Your time has been appreciated. The
children have worked hard this term and
learnt many new things across all Learning
Areas. Active listening has been a focus and continues to be a focus in Term 2. I have enjoyed meeting
with all parents and children and discussing progress both academically, behaviourally and socially.
Each child in Year 3 has their own goal to work towards in Term 2. Tomorrow we end the term by
presenting the Palm Sunday drama. The children are looking forward to this and we hope to see many
parents in the church at 2.10 pm.
Term 2 begins on Wednesday the 26th
April. Please make sure the children have all the items they need
to begin the term. These were outlined in the homework journal this week. Today I will send home all
the sheets in the homework journal, so we can begin Term 2 with a fresh folder. Please make sure your
child continues to read over the school holidays and possibly write a story or two! Have a wonderful
Easter and holiday break.
Mrs Marie Heavey, Year Three Teacher
YEAR FOUR
Year Four have enjoyed practising for our Lenten Liturgy and
hope you can join us tomorrow. This afternoon we had lots of
fun building and playing on our 10m waterslide on the senior
oval. The students have worked very hard to create their team
waterslide models as part of our STEM learning in the
technologies curriculum. Over the holidays please make time for
your child to read and practice their 4 x tables.
Wishing all families, a very Happy and Blessed Easter and a wonderful holiday. Thank you for a
fabulous term!
Miss Emma Reid, Year Four Teacher
YEAR FIVE
I hope you can come to the Lenten drama tomorrow
beginning at 2.10pm in the Church. Year Five will
be performing Good Friday. I have set some 2D and
3D NAPLAN style activities on Study Ladder to be
completed by the end of the first week back from
holidays; you may like to go through them with your
child. I will set some NAPLAN style Mathletics
tomorrow – this will be voluntary for the students to do. NAPLAN assessments will be during week
three of next term. I hope you enjoy more time with your son and daughter and wish you are wonderful
Easter.
Mr Phil Haydon, Year Five Teacheer
YEAR SIX
This term has been action-packed! We have been working very hard this
week to complete assessments in various learning areas. We have also
been working on our liturgy and look forward to seeing many parents in
the church tomorrow. I’m very proud of the way in which the Year 6
students have taken to the leadership roles. They have also worked hard
to learn new concepts, particularly in the new HASS learning area.
Civics and Citizenship are big concepts and the students have applied
themselves well. I was particularly impressed with the way they
conducted themselves at parliament house last Friday. Hopefully this
excursion has made the concepts they have been learning about in class more meaningful. Have a
fantastic break and an enjoyable Easter.
Miss Anna Brenkley, Year Six Teacher

MUSIC NEWS
Hello everybody.
Congratulations on the completion of Term One.
In our Music program we have enjoyed learning about music notation, pitch and rhythm. This will assist
us to read and write the magical language of ‘La Musica’.
We enjoyed working on learning and recognising instruments of the orchestra with the help of S.
Prokofiev and his young hero Peter. We feel very lucky to be able to sing, play instruments and games
as part of our daily routine.
With the older students, we have discussed and worked on a soundtrack writing project, inspired by the
music of E. Grieg.
We have been working towards our big Music Show to be held at the end of Term 2. Thank you to the
many students who volunteered to audition for group and solo items. They will share their talents and
provide for a memorable concert of the year.
I would like to thank my amazing students, parents and colleagues for your support of this ambitious
idea. I am sure we can make this event bright and happy.
I wish everybody a safe and relaxing holiday and a
beautiful Easter.
