As their way of revering their relationship with the master they tried to collaborate with him. They did something productive with what was given to them and returned it to the master with increase. It means “replacing Him” while He is absent and taking good care of the vineyard, the family farm, which is the Church. How amazing that God trusts us to take His place. “Children long for somebody to accept them, to praise them. Let us bring the

child back to the center of our care and concern. This is the ONLY way the world can survive because our children are the only hope of the

future.”

-Blessed Mother Teresa

Part II Purgatory by Fr. Mark Some people object to

Christianity because they say that if God is good and loves everyone, why does He "punish"?” If God loves everyone, why does He "send" some people to special "places" called Hell or Purgatory. Did God purposely create a special place with special fire to burn people? These questions are legitimate when we realize that if Christian faith tells us that if anything exists, God must have made it. Nothing exists that God did not create. If there is a place called Hell, complete with everlasting hellfire, or if there is a Purgatory, then these places must have been intentionally created and furnished by God. Why would He do this?

The answer to these objections is found in our belief that Hell and Purgatory are real, but that they are states of being rather than places. We say that being in Hell or Purgatory is something like being in a place full of burning fire. But in reality it is not fire like the fire we have here on Earth. Earthly fire can burn bodies but not souls. The pains of being in Hell or Purgatory must therefore be similar or analogous to

the pain of being burned with fire. And Hell and Purgatory are not really special places or locations, because we know that in the next world there is no space and time as we know it here on Earth. Hell or Purgatory are not physical places that can be measured in terms of feet or yards or miles. We could never say, for

example, that Hell is nine miles wide and fifty feet deep, located at the center of the Earth, because it is a spiritual reality or a state of being rather than a place. In this way we can understand that God does not want anyone to suffer. He did not create a fiery place with a big walls around it in order to fry people. If there is a real wall and a real fire, then we know God must have made it, because only God can create, but this is not the case here. It is true that in the Gospel Jesus speaks of an eternal fire (Mark 9:48) and of a "great abyss" that separates heaven and hell, but we must understand that he was speaking analogously in order to get His point across. Sometimes human language isn't enough to describe the things of the kingdom of God (Luke 13:20).

All of this does not mean that Hell and Purgatory are not real. The scriptures and all of Christian tradition and revelation tell us that they are frighteningly real. It has been said that an hour in Hell or even Purgatory is worse than anything you could suffer in this world in a lifetime.

Nothing exists that God did not create

The Body of Christ made visible

Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our

catechesis on the Church, we have

seen that the Church is a spiritual

reality, the mystical Body of Christ.

Yet we know that the Church is also

a visible reality, expressed in our

parishes and communities, and in

her institutional structures.

This visible reality is itself

mysterious, for it embraces the

countless and often hidden works of

charity carried out by believers

throughout the wor ld . To

understand the relationship

between the visible and the spiritual

dimensions of Christ’s Body, the

Church, we need to look to Jesus

himself, both God and man.

Just as Christ’s humanity serves his

divine mission of salvation, so too,

with the eyes of faith, we can

understand how the Church’s

visible dimension is at the service of

her deepest spiritual reality.

Through her sacraments and her

witness to Christ in our world, the

Church seeks to proclaim and bring

God’s merciful love to all,

particularly the poor and those in

need. Let us ask the Lord to enable

us to grow in holiness and to be an

ever more visible sign of his love for

all mankind. Wednesday, 29 October 2014

Festival Report:

*5,800+ volunteer hours *1,000’s+ meals and drinks

*A parish family of welcome, work and mission *$20,000 raised for our parish

*Praying Gratefully, Serving Responsibly and

Giving Generously

With gratitude, Festival Committee, Priests and Deacons

Recently, the entire Wunschel family could be seen on the Plaza working together to promote our Baby Bottle Campaign. Members of this dedicated St. Joseph’s family have been parishioners for nine years, during which time they have been committed to answering God’s call to serve. Beka and Steve serve on our Respect Life Committee, recently helping to plan the Day for Life. Steve is a certified Natural Family Planning physician and a member of our Knights of Columbus.

As a homeschooling family, they participate in St. Joseph’s Home School Co-op. Daughters Madeline and Liza are planning to become a part of our new children`s liturgical ministry - Church Mice. Beka believes that their children are a precious gift from God. She and Steve believe that their job as parents is to model being good stewards, because “Modeling acts of service for our children, especially those involving protecting the dignity of the human person, and allowing them to serve alongside us, not leaving them behind, is critical.” Madeline and Liza have been engaged in music activities since early childhood practicing piano, violin and flute.

Our music department was blessed with Madeline`s talent playing the flute for Sunday Masses and special events with our “Cherubim” Children`s Choir and Instrumental Ensemble. “When I play my flute at the Mass I feel closer to God and hear the words of Jesus put to music,” says Madeline, “Playing with the choir is beautiful when I feel myself as a part of different voices rising together in one hymn. I have so many blessings, but I love to give them back to God.” We are truly blessed with the Wunschel’s faithful service at St. Joseph’s.
