Pentecost Sunday

June 9, 2019

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

“Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” When Jesus had said this, he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you for-give the sins of any, they are forgiven …” [John 20:21b-23a]

Peace is the first gift of the Spirit, but it flows from forgiveness. What can you say when someone you love and have hurt deeply comes offering you peace? Such vulnerability and up front gift of intimacy is fright-ening, but John says that the disciples rejoiced. I bet their joy had some confusion to it, because after he left they didn’t go anywhere; even though he sent them out, they weren’t ready yet.

Pentecost is end of fifty days of Easter but only the beginning of the burgeoning life of the Church and the new creation. Resurrection dawns upon us only through the light of the Holy Spirit. As we let those gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit flow through us, we become more alive than ever, more awake, more our-selves, our true selves. Ready or not, Christ is Risen and has entrusted his mission of witnessing the Good News of hope and new life to us! We are the ones the world has been waiting for!

Question for the week: Having received the gift of the Holy Spirit, how can I assist in renewing the face of the earth? Recycle? Exercise? Pick up trash? Pray with someone? Forgive someone?

Word for the week: PENTECOST: (means “fifty” in Greek!) 50 days after Passover (Easter) is the Jewish feast of springtime: the Feast of Weeks, Feast of the New Harvest, Feast of the New Wine. But because of the outpouring of the Spirit and the witnessing of the apostles, it is also the birthday of the ancient church.

Come, O Holy Spirit, come !

Your Pastor, Fr. Bob

Domingo de Pentecostés

9 de Junio, 2019

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos:

¿Reciclando? ¿Ejercitándose? ¿Juntando Basura? ¿Rezando con alguien? ¿Perdonando a al-guien?
