Missonary Co-op
Next Sunday we have the privilege
to host Fr. Fernando Caindec,
Diocesan Mission Director of the
Diocese of Sorsogon in the Philippines.
Fr. Fernando comes at the invitation of Bishop
Parkes in conjunction with the Diocesan Mission-
ary Co-Op program. The Diocese of Sorsogon has
a population of more than 700,000, of which 87%
are Catholic. The Missionary Co-Op program of the Diocese of
St. Petersburg matches each local parish with a
mission parish or diocese in need of monetary
assistance. This year we have been matched with
this diocese in the Philippines. Next week there
will be a second collection for their mission fund.
Please be as generous as your means permit.
God bless you.
President of U.S. Conference Of Catholic Bishops Calls for Calm Amid Violent Protests in Charlottesville August 12, 2017 washington—Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, of
Galveston-Houston, President of the U.S. Confer-
ence of Catholic Bishops has issued the following
statement in response to the violent protests in
Charlottesville, Virginia that has left three dead
and at least 19 injured. Cardinal DiNardo’s full statement follows: On behalf of the bishops of the United States, I join
leaders from around the nation in condemning the
violence and hatred that have now led to one death
and multiple injuries in Charlottesville, Virginia.
We offer our prayers for the family and loved ones of
the person who was killed and for all those who have
been injured. We join our voices to all those calling
for calm. The abhorrent acts of hatred on display in Char-
lottesville are an attack on the unity of our nation and
therefore summon us all to fervent prayer and peaceful
action. The bishops stand with all who are oppressed
by evil ideology and entrust all who suffer to the
prayers of St. Peter Claver as we approach his feast
day. We also stand ready to work with all people of
goodwill for an end to racial violence and for the
building of peace in our communities. Last year a Task Force of our Bishops Conference
under Archbishop Wilton Gregory proposed prayers
and resources to work for unity and harmony in our
country and in our Church. I am encouraging the
bishops to continue that work especially as the Feast
of St. Peter Claver approaches. —usccb.org

Welcome Mrs. Gina Code! St. John Vianney Catholic School Principal! As we begin our new school
year, we welcome all our new
and returning faculty, staff,
families and students!
We hope your summer break
Was fun and relaxing! In a
special way we welcome to our parish and school

Mrs. Code comes to St. John Vianney from the
Diocese of Venice, where she served as the
principal of Epiphany Cathedral Catholic School
(PK–8) for the past two years. Mrs. Code
relocated to Florida in 2014 when she became the
Head of School for the Donahue Academy (K–12)
in Ave Maria, FL. Prior to her relocation to

St. Veronica Catholic School (PK–8) in Cincinnati,
OH for five years. Mrs. Code began her career in
Catholic education in Kentucky where she spent
15 years teaching and serving in numerous
leadership roles across various grade levels from
Kindergarten through 8th grade. Mrs. Code is the mother of three children and
feels blessed to be joining the SJV community.
Without a doubt, I know God placed me here to do a
good job for the children and families of this school.
I have enormous passion for Catholic education and
I am excited about leading St. John Vianney into the
future, said Mrs. Code. We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Code to our
SJV community!

obtained in the following ways:
• Forms are located in the church,
on either side of the front entry doors;
• Obtain one from the parish or
school office; or
• Go online to www.stjohnsparish.org 2. Once you have completed the form, you may
give it to an usher at Mass or turn it in at the
parish or school office. Please note that if you are already a registered
parishioner within the Diocese of St. Petersburg,
you are only allowed to be registered at one parish in
the diocese. If you wish to change parishes, complete the above steps
and notify your current parish of your change.
Has Life Got You Down?
Christ Renews His Parish If you have attended a women’s
CRHP retreat in the past, come
join other women of the parish
as we begin our fall weekly gatherings each
Thursday night in the Vianney Center from
7–8:30 p.m. Each week we reflect on a particular
scripture and meditation and share (if you choose)
on how that scripture influenced your life.
Imagine a room full of women in touch with the
Holy Spirit...heavenly laughter and love abounds.
Don’t miss such joy and blessings in your life.
Take time; make time to spend 90 minutes with
Jesus each Thursday night. Sometimes the
answers to life are really very simple. Don’t bother to give God instructions, just report
for duty.
—Corrie ten Boom For more information, contact the parish office
at 360.1147.
Want to learn more about the Catholic faith? Are you baptized but haven’t received
all of your sacraments? Are you interested
in becoming Catholic or reconnecting with
your Catholic faith?
Join us for an RCIA Inquiry meeting
on Sunday, September 10th at 2 p.m., or
Tuesday, September 12th at 7 p.m.
in St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
RCIA Volunteers Needed!
We are looking for sponsors for our upcoming
RCIA journey inquirers. A sponsor is an active
Catholic who is willing to be a friend, listener
and guide. You are not expected to know every
aspect of the church’s teaching, but rather
simply be an example of a Catholic living your
faith as best as you can. Sponsors are supported
by our parish’s RCIA team who are available
to answer your questions. Contact Holly Benfield, at 727.360.1147,
ext. 233, or email [email protected] for
more information.

Have You made A Consecration to Jesus Through Mary? On May 13, 1981, during the celebration of the
Feast of Our Lady of Fatima in St. Peter’s Square,
Pope Saint John Paul II
miraculously survived three
shots at point-blank range by
a professional assassin.
On the one-year anniversary
of the assassination attempt, he traveled to
Fatima, Portugal to offer his gratitude to Mary as
he was certain it was a mother’s hand that guided
the bullet’s path and saved his life. He renewed his
consecration to Mary and in his homily taught
the importance of Marian consecration for all
Catholics. As Saint Louis de Montfort writes in
True Devotion to Mary, consecration to Jesus through
Mary is “the surest, easiest, and most perfect
means” to becoming a saint. Join us on Sunday, September 10th in the
Vianney Center, St. Francis Room, as we begin
a 33–day preparation for Marian Consecration.
For 6-weeks, using 33–Days to Morning Glory by
Fr. Michael Gaitley, we’ll individually read about
and reflect on four great Marian giants: St. Louis
de Monfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Saint
Mother Teresa and Pope Saint John Paul II.
They’ll teach us the secrets to drawing closer to
the Heart of Jesus through the Heart of Mary.
In our weekly meetings, Sundays from 9:40–
11:15 a.m. we will share our insights within our
small group and then watch a 30-minute video.
The video by popular author and speaker,
Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, brings our individual
reflections and group experience into a clear and
live-able focus. If you’re looking for a simple way to be spiritually
renewed, develop a deeper relationship with Our
Merciful Savior, and grow in holiness, join us for
33–Days to Morning Glory Small Group. For more information and to reserve a book,
contact the parish office at 360.1147.
Enthrone Jesus as King of Your Home
Legion of Mary The Enthronement of the Sacred
Heart in the family is recognition
of Jesus as King of the family. By acknowledging Him as our King,
we become His loyal subjects through love.
We are reminded by the picture of His heart,
given at the Enthronement, that He rules over
our home and over the world through his great
love for us. This beautiful ceremony takes place at the home
of the family, and all members of the family
participate. The ceremony consists of special
prayers, presentation of a plaque of the Sacred
Heart, the Blessed Mother, and a certificate of
Enthronement, ending with the blessing of the
home by one of our clergy. The Legion of Mary will help in the preparation
of this ceremony, and representatives of the
Legion of Mary will attend the ceremony.
There is no preparation required by the family. For more information, please contact
the parish office at 360.1147.
2016–2017 Offertory Boxes This message does NOT apply to parishioners

boxes are ready for pick-up. If you require your envelopes to be mailed,
please contact the parish office at 360.1147,
ext. 207, so that we may assist you.
