THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER

My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Resurrected Lord Jesus

Christ,

Next Saturday, May 6th , eight children in the Second

Grade Religious Education (Faith Formation) Program are

scheduled to receive their First Holy Communion (First

Eucharist). It will be an honor and a pleasure to offer the First

Holy Communion Holy Mass at 10:00 A.M. that morning and

with great joy, I will have the honor to minister the Sacred Host to

each of them as they receive Our Lord in Holy Communion for the

very first time. Everyone is most welcome to that special Holy

Mass and to participate in the happiness of these eight children

and their families. Please pray that the children and their families

will always receive the Blessed Sacrament in the state of

sanctifying grace as well as praying at Holy Mass every Sunday

and Holy Day of Obligation.

Our Holy Hour of celebrating Divine Mercy Sunday back

on April 23rd from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. was quite well attended. I

want to express my gratitude to Joe Defino, Sr. and Jill

Frankenberry for leading us in the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the

Holy Rosary during that time. May we beg of God’s mercy as well

as give mercy to God and one another at all times.

Mia Denier and Dylan McCaig are spearheading their

Master’s Plan Project this Sunday afternoon, April 30th, from 2:00

until 4:00 P.M. in the Church Hall. Each of the five children in the

Fourth Grade Religious Education Program is doing a Master’s

Plan Project to raise money for worthy causes. Mia and Dylan are

inviting everyone to participate in an afternoon of pizza, painting,

and cupcakes during that time. Please see another portion of this

bulletin for details as to how you may participate. Please pray for

the success of the Master’s Plan Projects that the children are

doing.

I want to congratulate all of the folks on the Advisory

Committee for Parish Development for spearheading the Comedy

Night this Saturday evening, April 29th, starting at 8:30 P.M. at the

Knights of Columbus Council Chamber; much effort was put into

it so please pray that it is a successful fun and fund raiser for

everyone.

Speaking of fun/fund raisers, during the months of May

and June, I will be doing my fifth annual 100-Mile Power Walk

for the benefit of our parish. I introduced it at the announcement

time at all of the Holy Masses last weekend and I will explain how

you may sponsor me as I announce about it at the end of the Holy

Masses this weekend. These will be the only times that I will

speak about it at the announcement times; I will keep you posted

during the months of May and June as part of my letter to you

during the months of May and June as to how I am progressing.

Sponsoring me works the same way as in the prior four years: a

penny a mile = $1; a nickel a mile = $5; a dime a mile = $10; a

quarter a mile = $25; fifty cents a mile = $50; a dollar a mile =

$100 and so on. Sponsorships may be dropped in the collection

basket at Holy Mass; they may also be sent to the Rectory or given

to me personally. I wish to thank you in advance for your

generosity in sponsoring me and I will keep you posted in my

letter to you each week as to how much is being raised. PLEASE

PRAY THAT I DON’T HAVE A BLISTER OR A CORN!!! (Ha!

Ha! Ha!)

Our Finance Council meets this Tuesday, May 2nd, at

4:00 P.M. in the Rectory.

The Rehearsal for First Holy Communion, conducted by

the Coordinator of Religious Education, Joan Corton, will be this

Friday, May 5th, at 6:00 P.M. in the Church. The May Crowning of

Our Blessed Mother will be at the end of the 10:30 A.M. Holy

Mass next Sunday, May 7th, at the parish grotto.

JOKE– Now that I’m over 40, younger teammates have begun to

tease me about my declining abilities as a softball player. During

one game, I was playing third base when a batter ripped a shot

over my head. I leapt as high as I could, but the ball tipped off

the end of my glove and fell safely for a hit. At the end of the

inning, our left fielder caught up with me. “That much!” he

called, holding his thumb and forefinger a few inches apart. “I

know.” I replied. “I almost had it.” “No,” he said. “I mean that’s

how far you got off the ground.”

“Please Pray For All Bishops, Priests, Deacons & Religious!”

They set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found

gathered together the eleven and those with them who were

saying, "The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to

Simon!" Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way

and how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread. -

MAKING ALL THINGS NEW

God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist,

You bring us together as Your Church in the

Archdiocese of New York.

Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our

actions as we plan for the future of parish life in this

Archdiocese.

Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish

communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and

material gifts that sustain them.

Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to

the truth of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

PERFECT PEACE

By Berit Kjos

There once was a King who offered a prize to the

artist who would paint the best picture of peace.

Many artists tried. The King looked at all the

pictures, but there were only two he really liked

and he had to choose between them.

One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect

mirror for peaceful towering mountains were all around it.

Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw

this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.

The other picture had mountains too. But these were

rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky from which rain fell,

in which lightening played. Down the side of the mountain

tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all.

But when the King looked, he saw behind the waterfall

a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother

bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry

water, sat the mother bird on her nest ... perfect peace.

Which picture do you think won the prize? The King

chose the second picture. Do you know why?

"Because," explained the King, "peace does not mean to

be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work.

Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be

calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace."
