Pastor’s Corner
Often some prayers during the celebration of Holy Mass go unnoticed. One such prayer that is unnoticed is the Preface to the Eucharistic Prayer. It is the prayer that is said by the priest after the he invites the congregation to “Lift up your hearts!” The Preface often highlights the main themes that are being celebrated. The proper Preface for the solemnity of Christ the King highlights what this feast signifies as seen here: For you anointed your Only Begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, with the oil of gladness as eternal Priest and King of all creation, so that, by offering Himself on the altar of the Cross as a spotless sacrifice to bring us peace, He might accomplish the mysteries of human redemption, and, making all created things subject to His rule, He might present to the immensity of your majesty an eternal and universal kingdom, a kingdom of holiness and grace, a kingdom of justice, love and peace. By giving us this liturgical celebration, the Church hopes that we will not forget about our King and his Kingdom. The Church is a wise mother. She knows that we have a built-in tendency to forget about these things. The pleasures, possibilities and worries of life in this fallen world are real. They are strong magnets that try to monopolize our attention. But Christ is stronger. And he has much more to offer: eternal life, in fact, meaning, purpose, forgiveness, wisdom, and the strength of his grace. And yet, he is not a tyrant. He offers us citizenship in his Kingdom, but he leaves us free to accept or reject that offer. Today, let's renew our acceptance. When he proves his love for us once again in the sacrifice of this Mass, let's profess our love for him. Let's invite him into our minds and let him reign there through our firm belief in all of his teaching. Let's invite him into our wills, that part of us where we make our decisions, and let him reign there through our loving obedience to his commandments especially the commandment to love our neighbors as he has loved us. Let's invite him into our hearts, that secret center of our souls where we treasure things, where our affections reside, and let him reign there by putting every natural desire in second place, behind our desire to know, love, and follow our King. Today especially, before we receive our Lord in Holy Communion, let us put more meaning than usual into the words that sum up every Christian's fundamental mission and deepest desire: Thy Kingdom come…Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Long live Christ the King! Viva Cristo Rey!
Rincón del pastor A menudo, algunas oraciones durante la celebración de la Santa Misa pasan desapercibidas. Una de esas oraciones que pasa desapercibida es el Prefacio a la Oración Eucarística. Fr. John is looking for parishioners who would be
interested in being part of a building and mainte-
nance committee for our parish and school. The
purpose of this committee is to advise Fr. John of
any maintenance concerns and to review bids
and contracts for any construction or

Finance Council - Fr. John is seeking interested parishioners who
would like to possibly serve on the parish Finance
Council. The Finance Council is the princi-
pal consultative body for the business affairs of
the parish. It assists and supports the Pastor in
his stewardship of parish resources. The Parish
Finance Council is a key element for promoting
the financial health of a Parish, assuring account-
ability and assisting the pastor with his business
and temporal responsibilities. Fr. John
is interested in parishioners who have financial
accounting, legal, construction, etc. experience.
He would like this council to represent the

Sanctuary Candle Offerings The red Sanctuary Lamp above the Tabernacle burns to remind us of the sacramental presence of Jesus Christ. If you wish to have the Sanctuary Candle burning in memory of a loved one, to honor a special occasion, or a special intention, you can make arrangements with the Parish Office. The cost of the candle is $20 and it burns for one week. A notice of your intention will be published in the bulletin and the intentions will be posted on the bulletin board in church.

Spain and Lourdes Pilgrimage in 2020
Fr. John Marshall of St. John the Baptist, Milwaukie, Oregon and Fr. Sean Weeks of St. Pius X, Portland, Oregon will be directing a
pilgrimage to Spain and Lourdes from April 27 – May 7, 2020.
We will be visiting the holy places of the great Spanish mystics: Teresa of Jesus (Avila), St. John of the Cross, and St. Ignatius of Loyola. We will then journey to Lourdes, France to visit the place
where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette in 1858, participate in the nightly candlelight procession and have the opportunity to bathe in the miraculous waters that have flowed uninterrupted since Our Lady’s apparitions in Lourdes. We will conclude our pilgrimage in Barcelona before returning home.
