DismissalProceduresAfternoondismissalwilltakeplaceonCommunityStreet(notthroughtheschooloffice.)GradesK-3willbedismissedat2:45.Grades4-8willbedismissedat3:00.Parentsarenotpermittedtobeoncampustowaitfortheirchilduntil2:40(Gr.K-3)and2:55(Gr.4-8).Thereareclassesstillinsessionanditcanbedisruptivetohaveparentswaitingoutsideofclassrooms.Weaskthatyoukindlywaitbythedesignatedareawhereyourstudent’sclassmeets.Allstudents/parentsmustcheckoutwiththeteacherbeforetheyleavefortheday.Studentsarenotpermittedtowaitfortheirparentsinthemainofficeforpickup.Allstudentsandparentsmustusedesignatedcrosswalkstocrossthestreet.GuidelinestoFacilitatethisProcess

6. PATIENCE:Pleaseknowinadvancethattherewillbedelayswhen1,200students
(elementaryandhighschool)arebeingdroppedoffandpickedup.Planforthemandbepreparedtoexpectdelays.
Ifforanyreason,youarenotabletopickupyourchildatyourregularlyscheduledtimeafterschool,pleaseCALLthemainofficesotheycanalerttheteachertosendthechildtodaycare.TeachersmaynotseenotessentonEdmodoorE-mailsenttheday-of,astheyarebusyteachingduringtheday.

Absence,Tardiness,andTruancyAbsenceParentsareaskedtocalltheschooloffice(818-892-3802)inthemorningiftheirchildissickandunabletoattendschool.Ifastudentisabsentformorethanfiveconsecutivedays,theparentmustobtainaphysician’snoteinorderforthestudenttobereadmittedtoclass.Studentsarenotpermittedtobeabsentmorethanatotalof10%oftheentireyear(excusedandunexcused).Thisequalsroughlysixabsencespertrimester,or18absencesperyear.AbsencewithAcceptableExcuseWhenastudenthasbeenabsent,awrittenexcusesignedbytheparentorguardianisrequired;andtheexcusesarekeptonfileforaperiodofoneyear.Anacceptableexcuseincludesillness,attendanceatmedicalordentalappointments,funeralservicesforfamilymembers,quarantinedirectedbyCountyorCityOfficials,oremergencyorspecialcircumstancesasdeterminedbytheschoolauthorities.Excessiveunexcusedabsencesmayresultinlossofacademiccredit.Studentswillhavetwoweekstomakeupmissedworkwithoutpenaltyupontheirreturn.ExtendedAbsencesTheadministrationdiscouragesfamiliesfromschedulingvacationsduringtheschoolyear.However,familyemergenciescanarise.When,forfamilyreasons,parentswishtotaketheirchildrenoutofschooltemporarily,theHeadofSchoolandteacherwilldiscusswiththeparentsthepossibleeffectsofsuchanabsence.Allstudentswillberesponsibleformakingupmissedworkwithintwoweeksoftheirreturn.Workturnedinaftertwoweekswillbepenalized.LeavingSchoolEarlyAstudentmaynotleavetheschoolbeforetheregulardismissaltimewithoutawrittenrequestfromaparentorguardian.Therequestmuststatethereasonforearlydismissal.DuringtheweekoftheStandardizedTesting(STAR),parentsarerequestednottomakemedicalappointmentsunlessurgentlyneeded.Ifparentsneedtocollecttheirstudentspriortotheirdismissaltime,theymustcheckinwiththeofficefirstandthestudentwillbesenttotheoffice.Parentsshouldnotgodirectlytotheirchild’sclassroom.TardinessItisvitallyimportantforallstudentstobeatschoolontime.Allstudentsshouldbepresentformorningassemblyat7:45am.StudentswillbemarkedtardyingradesK-8iftheyarenotpresentby7:55amastardinessisdisruptivetotheeducationprocessfortheentireclass.TardystudentsingradesK-8aretoreporttotheschoolofficetoreceivealateslipbeforebeingadmittedtoclass.

K-3studentsshouldbeescortedbyparentstothechurchiftardyonFridays.Everyfivetardiesastudentincurswillresultin1additionalservicehourbeingaddedtotheparent’srequirementforstudentsingradesK-5.Everyfivetardiesamiddleschoolstudentaccumulateswillresultinonedetention.TruancyPolicyIntheeventthattheschoolsuspectsthatastudentistruant(absentfromschoolrepeatedly,withoutanacceptableexcuse),theschooladministrationwillcontacttheparentorguardian.Iftheschoolsuspectsthatthestudentisahabitualtruantandallresourcesattheschoollevelhavebeenexhausted,theschoolPrincipalorHeadofSchoolwillnotifythelocalpublicChildWelfareandAttendanceauthorities.Snack/LunchItistheparent’sresponsibilitytosendtheirchildwithabalanced&nutritioussnackandlunch.Pleaselimittheamountofsugarysnacksyousend,includingbutnotlimitedtocookies,cakes,anddoughnuts.Instead,considersendingfruit,lowsugaryogurtsandfreshcutvegetables.Ifyouareorderingtheschoollunch,pleasedosobythedatesprovidedonthelunchmenu.Shouldyouforgettosendyourchild’slunchonthatday,pleaseCALLthemainofficesotheycannotifytheteacher.TeachersmaynotseenotespostedonEdmodo,ore-mailedsincetheyareteachingduringtheday.Promptremittanceofpaymentdirectlytothecaféisappreciated.Fastfoodisnotpermitted.Pleasedonotdropoffanyformoffastfoodforyourchildduringtheday.AfterschoolActivitiesSt.Genevieveoffersaplethoraofafterschoolactivitiestoenrichthedevelopmentofyourchild.However,inordertoattendafterschoolactivities,includingtry-outsofanykind,studentsmustbepresentatschoolduringtheday.Partialabsencesduetomedicalappointmentsexcluded.Allstudentsshouldreporttodaycareafterschool(freeofcharge)untiltheircoach/banddirectorarrivestobeginpractice.Ifapracticeiscancelledatthelastminute(day-of)foranyreasonincludingthecoach/teacherbeingill,allstudentsmayreporttodaycareFREEOFCHARGEuntiltheirregularlyscheduledactivitywouldhavebeenover.

A. Tosupporttheschoolanditspolicies.Whenschoolpoliciesareformulated,thegoodofallthestudentsandteachersisconsidered.Therefore,itisexpectedthattheRoomParentswillstrivetodoalltheycantosupportandupholdthepoliciessetinplacebytheadministration.
ItisNOTtheroleoftheRoomParentstoformulateschoolpolicy.RoomParentmeetingsarenevertobeaforumfordiscussionregardingindividualconcernsaboutschoolmatters.
B. Tohelpsupporttheschoolfinancially.Anticipatedprofitsfromfundraisingplayanimportantrolewhenformulatingtheschoolbudgetfortheyear.ThereforeweanticipatethatacertainamountofmoneywillbebroughtinthroughthefundraisingeffortsoftheRoomParents.
ItisNOTtheroleoftheRoomParentstodeterminehowthoseprofitswillbespent.WehavemanyneedsforSt.GenevieveSchool;often,therewillbeurgentneedsthatarenotpossibletoanticipate.Therefore,itisnecessarythattheadministrationreservestherighttodeterminehowthemonieswillbespent.Wewillalwaystakeallopinionsintoconsideration,butthedecisionismadebytheschool’sadministration.

Section9:MiscellaneousChildAbuseSt.GenevieveSchoolabidesbytheChildAbusePrevention,AdoptionandFamilyServicesAct.Thislawmandatesthatallcasesofsuspectedabuseand/orneglectaretobereportedtochildprotectiveservices.EmergencyProceduresThereisnowarningsignalforanearthquakeorasurpriseattack.Thedrillinvolvesaschool-widesignalthatisgivenoverthepublicaddresssystem.Thesignalistheannouncementof“EARTHQUAKE”whichisrepeatedseveraltimes.Whiletheannouncementismadestudentsaretoimaginetheearthquakeishappening.Aslongastheannouncementcontinues,studentsaretoimaginethatthebuildingisshaking.Whentheannouncementstops,studentsaretoimaginethattheshakinghasstopped.Anemergencydropdrillisconductedonceeachtrimester.Incaseofanearthquakeandduringthedrills,thechildrenhavebeeninstructedto:

ProcedureforExpulsionWhenthereasonsforexpulsionarepurelydisciplinary,i.e.,whenseriousmoralreasonsarenotinvolved,thefollowingstepsmustbetaken:
• Aconferencemustbeheldwiththeparents/guardian,student,teacher,andprincipalpresenttoadvisethefamilythatseriousactioniscontemplatedunlessthereisimmediateimprovementinbehavior.Inparishschools,thepastorshouldbenotifiedoftheconference,givenanopportunitytoattend,andprovidedareportofthediscussion.

• Innocasewillateacheronhis/herownauthorityexpelastudent.• Fullcreditwillbegivenforallworkaccomplishedbythestudentuptothemomentof
expulsion.CasesInvolvingGraveOffenses
• Incasesinvolvinggraveoffenses,whichmayincludeaviolationofcriminallaworactionssooutrageousastoshocktheconscienceorbehaviorofthecommunity,thestudentisimmediatelysuspendedandtheinitialparent-principalconferenceisdispensedwith.
• Theprocedureinvolvingcasesofgraveoffensesshouldbefollowedwhenthecontinuedpresenceofthestudentatschool(evenforashortperiodoftime)will,inthereasonablejudgmentoftheprincipal,poseaseriousthreattothehealthandwelfareofanotherstudentorstudents,orfacultymembers.
• Whenimmediatesuspensionisimposed,withprobableexpulsion,whilethecaseisbeinginvestigated,therulesandtheconsequencesoftheviolationshouldbeclearlyexplainedtothestudentandparents/guardians.
TimeofExpulsion
• Anexpulsionmaybemadeimmediatelyifthereasonsareurgent.• Onlyinexceptionalcasesshallexpulsionofaneighthgradestudentwhohasbeeninthe
schooloneormoreyearsbeallowed.• Ifanexpulsionistotakeplaceduringthelastquarteroftheschoolyearorduringthe
lastsemesterinthecaseofaneighthgradestudent,priorapprovaloftheDepartmentofCatholicSchoolsisrequiredbeforetheexpulsioncantakeeffect.
• Ifsuchactioniscontemplated,approvalshallbeobtainedbeforetheannouncementofthefinaldecisiontotheparents.

ReportingofExpulsions
• Allexpulsionseveniftheyoccurattheendoftheyear,aretobereportedbytelephonetotheelementarysupervisorattheDepartmentofCatholicSchoolswithintwenty-fourhours.Thewrittenreport,NoticeofDismissal,shouldbemailedpromptlytotheelementarysupervisor.
• Theattendanceofficeofthelocalpublicschooldistrictshallbenotifiedimmediatelyofexpulsions.AcopyoftheCumulativeStudentRecordshouldbehelduntilrequested.
RighttoMakeExceptionsTheHeadofSchoolandthePrincipal,inconsultationwiththepastor,retainstherighttomakeexceptionsincaseswheremitigatingcircumstancescallforadifferentresponsethanpolicysuggests.Harassment,Bullying,andHazingPolicySt.GenevieveiscommittedtoprovideasafeandcomfortablelearningenvironmentthatrespectsChristianvaluesandisfreefromharassment,bullying,orhazinginanyform.Harassment,bullying,orhazingofanystudentbyanyotherstudent,layemployee,religious,clergy,orschoolvolunteerisprohibited.Theschoolwilltreatallegationsofanysuchconductseriouslyandwillreviewandinvestigatesuchallegationsinaprompt,confidential,andthoroughmanner.Thispolicyshallbecommunicatedclearlytofaculty,staff,volunteers,parents/guardians,andstudents.Substantiatedactsofharassment,bullying,orhazingbyastudentwillresultindisciplinaryactionuptoandincludingdismissalofthestudent.Studentsfoundtohavefiledfalseorfrivolouschargeswillalsobesubjecttodisciplinaryactionuptoandincludingdismissal.ForstudentsingradesK-3,thisdisciplinaryactionshalldependonthematurityofthestudentsandthecircumstancesinvolved.Forstudentsingrades4through8,thedisciplinaryactionmayincludesuspensionordismissal.Harassmentoccurswhenanindividualissubjectedtotreatmentoraschoolenvironmentthatishostileorintimidatingbaseduponalegallyprotectedclass,suchasrace,sex,ethnicoriginorreligion.Itincludes,butisnotlimitedto,anyofallofthefollowing:

Bullyingisthehabitualharassing,intimidating,tormenting,browbeating,humiliating,terrorizing,oppressingand/orthreateningofanotherperson.Bullyingtypicallyconsistsofdirectbehaviors,suchasteasing,taunting,threatening,hitting,shoving,andstealingthatareinitiatedbyoneormorestudentsagainstavictimorvictims.Inadditiontodirectattacks,bullyingmayalsobeindirect,suchasspreadingrumorsthatcausevictimstobesociallyisolatedthroughintentionalexclusion.Whetherthebullyingisdirectorindirect,thekeycomponentofbullyingisphysicalorpsychologicalintimidationthatoccursrepeatedlyovertimetocreateanongoingpatternofharassmentandabuse.Hazingisanymethodofinitiationorpre-initiationintoastudentorganizationorstudentbodyoranypastimeoramusementengagedinwithrespecttotheseorganizationswhichcauses,orislikelytocause,bodilydanger,physicalharm,orpersonaldegradationordisgraceresultinginphysicalormentalharm,toanystudentorotherperson.Studentsalsomaybeinvolvedincyberbullying,whichoccurswhenstudentsbullyeachotherusingtheInternet,mobilephones,orothercybertechnology.Thiscaninclude,butisnotlimitedto:
• Sendinginappropriatetext,e-mail,orinstantmessages.• Postinginappropriatepicturesormessagesaboutothers,oroneselfinblogsoronweb
sites.• Usingsomeoneelse’susernametospreadrumorsorliesaboutsomeone.
Itistheresponsibilityoftheschoolto:
• Establishpracticesandprovidestaffdevelopmenttrainingandage-appropriateinformationforstudents,designedtocreateaschoolenvironmentfreefromdiscrimination,intimidation,orharassment.
• Makeallfaculty,staff,students,parents/guardians,andvolunteersawareofthispolicyandthecommitmentoftheschooltowarditsstrictenforcement.
• Remainwatchfulforconditionsthatcreateormayleadtoahostile,offensiveschoolenvironment.
Itisthestudent’sresponsibilityto:
• Conducthimselforherselfinamannerthatcontributestoapositiveschoolenvironment.
• Avoidanyactivitythatmaybeconsidereddiscriminatory,intimidating,harassing,bullying,orhazing.
