St. Catherine Labouré (Zoe) was born 1806 in Fain-Les-Moutiers France, 9th of 11 children. She entered the Sisters of Charity in 1830 and took the name Catherine. In November 1830 Mary appeared to her and asked for a medal to be made (Miraculous Medal). Mary had rays coming from gems on her fingers. Those without rays symbolized graces we forget to ask for. For the next 46 years Catherine led a hidden life, and cared for old men. She died on 12/31, 1876. She was canonized in 1947. Her body is incorrupt to this day.

St. Catherine Labouré Sodality will hold their Lenten re-treat from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 19 2016. All parishioners and their guests are invited to attend. Admission is $20.00 per person. (This includes Breakfast and Lunch). We begin by attending Mass, followed by the Rosary after which we will proceed to the Russell Room for Breakfast. Our Speaker will be Father Michael Briese from Holy Name Parish in Washington, D.C. His talk will begin at 10:00 am. CONVERTED TO NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING Vanessa Ben has always had a role in our practice of NFP. He sets up charts, keep me on rack with taking temperatures and observation and initiates monthly “are-we-open-to-life” discussions. Neither of us are terribly disciplined people, so it takes both of us to stay consistent with charting. What I appreciate most is his steady, unfailing resolve never to Objectify me. After a few years of practicing NFP, I found that the insecurity that had plagued me earlier in our rela-tionship was gone. Letting God into our marriage probably saved it. We srarted practicing NFP at a point when neither of us were fully comfortable in the Catholic Church. As we learned more about the Church and its teachings, we came to see a truth and beauty we’d never understood before. The Church became our home. I came back into the Church around the time we were married, and Ben became Catholic two years later. We have since welcomed a second child into our family. Ben The path to becoming a teaching coiple tooks a lot of deliberation, but ultimately we found ourselves saying, “Why not us?” As a method, NFP has proven itself to us in both periods of postponing and conceiving, brought faith and God into the heart of our relationship and enabled a greater level of communication. Due to this, we felt the call to share this positive, life-changing experience with every-one willing to listen.

Requirements of the Church for being a Baptism or Confirmation sponsor: A sponsor must be someone other than the parent of the one to be confirmed. A sponsor must have received the Sacraments of Bap-tism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. A sponsor must be at least 16 years of age. A sponsor must be leading a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken; therefore, if married, must be married in the Church and if single, must be striving to live a chaste life and therefore cannot be liv-ing with a “significant other” outside of marriage. A sponsor must be a practicing Catholic, registered in a parish, who regularly attends Mass every Sunday and Holy Day (unless sick), prays regularly, and regularly receives the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. A sponsor must be willing to help the candidate live a good Catholic life by example, by offering guidance and by prayer.

Jesus has such compassion on the woman in the Gospel reading today as he forgives her and gives her mercy and grace instead of judgment and condemnation. We are in turn called to extend that same love and compassion to others, especially in our marriage relationship. AVISO IMPORTANTE: COMENZANDO EL DOMINGO DE RAMOS LA MISA DE ESPAÑOL DE LAS 8:30 DE LA MAÑANA SE CAMBIARA A LAS 8:15 AM ( LA MISA SE ADELANTA 15 MINUTOS) Queridos hermanos y hermanas:

Hoy reflexionamos sobre la misteriosa relación que existe entre misericordia y corrección divina. Dios se comporta con nosotros como un padre de familia, que ama a sus hijos, los socorre, los cuida y los perdona. Y que también los educa y corrige cuando se equivocan, para ayudarlos a ser respon-sables, a crecer en el bien y en la libertad. La relación “padre-hijo” es figura de la alianza entre Dios y su pueblo. Esta relación se fragmenta cuando el hombre rechaza la paternidad de Dios. A causa del pecado, pretende convertir la libertad en autonomía y, dejándose llevar por el orgullo, se contrapone a él y vive en una ilusión de autosufi-ciencia. Cuando el pueblo se aleja de Dios, desconfía de él y no le obedece, experimenta entonces la aflicción de la prueba. Dios la permite con vistas a la sal-vación, para que el pueblo pecador, sintiendo el vacío y la amargura del estar lejos de él, pueda abrirse a la conversión y al perdón. Dios habla amorosamente a la conciencia de sus hijos, para que se arrepientan y se dejen amar de nuevo por él. La salvación siempre es un don gratuito de Dios. Pero supone la decisión de escucharlo y dejarse corregir por él. La corrección forma parte del camino de la miseri-cordia divina. Dios perdona a su pueblo, siempre deja una puerta abierta a la esperanza, Dios nunca cierra la puerta, y le indica que el camino de la sal-vación no es el de los sacrificios, sino la práctica del bien y la justicia.

Requisitos de la Iglesia para ser padrino /madrina de bautismo o confirmación: Un padrino/madrina debe ser alguien que no sea el padre del que ha de ser bautizado o confirmado. Un padrino/madrina debe haber recibido los sacramentos de Bautismo, Confirmación y la Eucaristía. Un padrino/madrina debe tener al menos 16 años de edad. Un padrino/madrina debe estar llevando una vida en armonía con la fe y el papel que deben emprender; Por lo tanto, si están casados, deben estar casados por la Iglesia y si son solteros, hay que esforzarse por vivir una vida casta y por lo tanto no se puede convivir con "el novio (a) " fuera del matrimonio. Un padrino/madrina debe ser un católico practicante, in-scrito en una parroquia, que asiste regularmente a misa todos los domingos y fiestas de precepto (a menos que esté enfermo), orar con regularidad, y regularmente recibir los sacramentos de la Reconciliación y de la Eucaristía. Un padrino/madrina debe estar dispuesto a ayudar al ahijado (a) a vivir una buena vida católica con el ejemplo, ofreciendo orientación y orando.

¿CÓMO SE CELEBRA EL DOMINGO DE RAMOS? La Misa de este día tiene dos momentos importantes: la procesión y bendición de los ramos y la lectura de la Pasión. Los ramos benditos se llevan a la casa como signo de la bendición de Dios, de su protección y ayuda. Se colocan sobre un crucifijo o cuadro religioso y es un sacramental, o sea nos recuerdan algo sagrado. Nos recuerda que hemos aclamado a Jesús, nuestro Rey y que lo seguimos hasta Su Cruz y que durante el año los seguimos aclamando resucitado. PARA REFLEXIONAR: Muchas veces aclamamos a Jesús, como lo hicieron los judíos, y otras tantas lo negamos, lo condenamos a muerte con nuestros pecados. ¿Qué haré de ahora en adelante, para que haya coherencia entre mi fe y mi vida cotidiana?

Meditación del Papa Con la solemnidad del domingo de Ramos, hemos iniciado la Se- mana Santa, en la que seguimos los pasos de Cristo hasta la cele- bración de su misterio pascual. Lo aclamamos como Mesías e Hijo de David, agitando, como los niños y jóvenes de Jerusalén, las palmas de la salvación y del júbilo. Al mismo tiempo, contem- plamos su dolorosa pasión y su humillación hasta la muerte. Os invito, durante estos días santos, a uniros plenamente a nuestro Redentor, recordando aquel solemne Vía Crucis de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud. En él oramos conmovidos ante la belleza de aquellas imágenes sagradas, que expresaban con hondura los misterios de nuestra fe. Os animo a cargar también vosotros con vuestra cruz, y la cruz del dolor y de los pecados del mundo, para que entendáis mejor el amor de Cristo por la humanidad. Así os sentiréis llamados a proclamar que Dios ama al hombre y le envió a su Hijo, no para condenarlo, sino para que alcance una vida plena y con sentido. (Benedicto XVI, 2 de abril de 2012). Reflexión Hoy es Domingo de Ramos porque celebramos la entrada triunfal de Jesús en Jerusalén. Pero entra como un rey hu- milde, pacífico y manso. No entra con tanques ni con metralletas para conquistar la ciudad. Tampoco entra en un caballo blanco al sonido de las trompetas, como lo hacían antaño los emperadores o los generales romanos después de vencer a los enemigos. No. Jesús entra montado en un bur- rito, signo de humildad y de mansedumbre. Es aclamado por gente buena y sencilla, y una gran cantidad de sus discípulos son mujeres y niños. Lo proclaman rey no con el estruendo de las armas, sino con los gritos de júbilo. Y no agitan bayonetas o pancartas, sino ramos de olivo y de lau- rel, signos de la paz. ¡Éste es Jesús, nuestro Rey, el Rey de la paz y del amor verdadero, el que entra hoy triunfante a Jerusalén! Pero también hoy es Domingo de "Pasión" porque iniciamos esta semana de dolor, que culminará en la Cruz. Por eso en el Evangelio de la Misa de este día se pro- clama toda la pasión del Señor. Sólo ocurre esto dos días en todo el año: hoy y el Viernes Santo. Pero la muerte de Cristo en el Calvario no es una derrota, sino el triunfo más rotundo y definitivo de Nuestro Señor sobre los poderes del mal, del pecado y de Satanás. Estos días santos son, pues, para acompañar a Cristo en los sufrimientos de su Pasión y en su camino al Calvario: para unirnos a Él a través de la oración, los sacramentos, la cari- dad, el apostolado y las obras buenas. ¡Tántas cosas po- demos hacer en favor de los demás!, pero tal vez nos falta imaginación o inventiva. O pensar más en los demás y menos en nosotros mismos.

Cómo la Planificación Familiar Natural cambió mi vida

Continuación de la semana anterior Al practicar la PFN, mi esposo y yo debemos decidir si nosotros, como pareja, estamos listos para abrazar la posibilidad de una nueva vida en cada ciclo menstrual. Cuando usábamos anticonceptivos, hacíamos caso omiso de esta realidad. Con la PFN no podemos ignorar cómo Dios nos ha hecho, como hombre y mujer. La PFN nos ayudó a comprender el plan de Dios para el acto marital y la procreación. Nos ha “abierto a la vida”. ¡Hasta trajo a nuestros dos últimos hijos a la familia! El don de sí Al usar la PFN en el curso de los años, mi esposo y yo ahora vemos que nos entregamos el uno al otro plenamente en el acto marital. Para nosotros, la idea de los anticonceptivos se ha convertido en algo casi de mal gusto. Le quita valor al acto marital. Los anticonceptivos parecen decir: “Te amo, cariño, pero no te amo TANTO”. Continuará…………….
