This process also facilitates the development of students organisational and oral communication skills which lead to increased confidence and pride in their overall performance. It allows students to assume equal partnerstatus in discussions with parents and teachers regarding their progress. The student led conference is designed to be a positive experience for our students. Therefore all teachers will work with the students to prepare them with an appropriate conference structure. Kiss and Go

We understand that traffic and parking around St Brigid's at the moment is difficult for all. The School Kiss and Go Zones are for dropping off and picking up only. Drivers are not to leave their cars. If you need to come into the school you need to park elsewhere. Over the last few weeks we have had cars parked, and left unattended in both Kiss and Go Zones. The two Kiss and Go Zones are designed to make the traffic flow and make it easier for our families. Please obey the Kiss and Go Zones.

EXAMPLES OF POETRY WRITING:

Scoring Goals

Scoring goals is my dream

Not standing on a gymnastic beam Not at a concert with a theme Scoring goals with my team Not serving cake and cream Scoring goals is my dream.

Animals of the Outback Small-clawed feet hit the ground. Pitter patter. Pitter patter. Big, long paws come bounding past. Thumpty thump. Thumpty thump. Loud swoops and cries from overhead. Squawk squawk. Flap flap. A head appears from under the river. Glug glug. Glug glug. Distant howls across the night sky. Aarh-woooo. Aarh-woooo. Ruby W Grade 3/4 KF

Pink Poem

What can happen when you think of pink?

The memory of a baby or a strawberry drink. Can it be the lingering scent of a dewy rose?

Or when a flittering ladybug lands on your nose. Is it the rising clouds of a springtime morning?

Or at the strike of dawn when you can hear a galah call-ing.

Pink is a joyful colour sweet and warm. Pink is the prettiest colour of them all.

Could it be fairy floss or a sweet gumdrop? Maybe pink is sundae with a cherry on top!

Milla Grade 5/6 AH

Dusk Birds in their nest Squirrels in their burrow, Night awake And sun in sorrow, The gust of wind A tiger’s roar But at dawn the birds will soar. People asleep in their bed, With booming lightning and thunder Dreaming away, As they slumber. The purple tint in the sky gazing down, Never to be seen in day, Each star A sun far away, And the galaxy in the distance Looking over the trees, With the moon scintillating through the branches What a sight to see! The wind, Drifting the leaves, The mist lying at your feet, The moon-glow beaming The stars gleaming, The peaceful breeze to make you cold, The scary streets That you need a hand to hold. The midnight sky, And the sapphire sea, The night, Is the time to be.

BUILDING COMMUNITY WITH OUR NEIGHBOURS On the 5th of June 2019 the Grade 5 from 5/6 BF went to the Mordialloc Kindergarten. My kinder buddy was Norman. He was five years old and I read a story to him. After that we played a board game and he beat me (by a lot). I got sick of losing so we played with some Lego and he drew a picture of me and he said I could keep it. It was a great experience. Matthew D 5/6BL. Yesterday at the Mordialloc Kindergarten we met some lovely cute children. I had two children their names were Phoebe and Marcus. We played some board games and joined little connectors to-gether to make different things - and they loved it. Marcus and Phoebe were doing drawings and they both gave one to me . I read two books to them about naughty Charlotte. Charlotte is a dog that kept eating things she wasn't allowed to. The second book was called A Rhyme Day it had a lot of rhymes and they both loved it also. Then the sad time came, we had to leave they were a bit sad too. It was so nice meeting them it bought memories from when I went in to this kindergarten. It has changed a lot and I am very thankful for the school letting us go there. Lauren S

Mordialloc Beach Litter Audit

On Thursday 6th June the students from 5/6 AH and our Environment

and Sustainability Leaders walked to Mordialloc Beach to conduct a

litter audit.

This is being undertaken in partnership with the Dolphin Research

Institute and Port Phillip Eco Centre.

We completed the audit at the beginning of each season in front of the

lifesaving club. Each group of students uses a metre square quadrant

to collect and survey the amount and types of waste found.

The same transect areas are used for each audit. Results are sent to

the Dolphin Research Institute and then passed on to the Port Phillip

Eco Centre.

Along the way the students also collected waste on the Mordialloc

footpaths and nature strips.

Thanks to 5/6AH for being sustainable and enviormentally friendly!

WOW KINGSTON 2019 Kingston City Council is inviting local schools to participate in the WOW Kingston (Walk/Wheel Once a Week) program for Term 2. WOW Kingston is a 6 week program that encourages primary school students to travel to school by more active modes and decrease car dependency. It also improves road safety awareness and traffic conditions around the school. Each school will nominate a day of the week on which to promote active travel and students will record their participation on a special class wall calendar throughout Term 2. At the conclusion of 6 weeks, the class that has walked and cycled the most will be presented with Council’s special Golden Boot Award to recognise their outstanding participation.

St Brigid’s walk to school day is going to be: Wednesday’s for Week 2,3,4,5,6,7 Each classroom teacher will tally how many children walk/scoot/ride to school on each Wednesday and at the end of the 6 weeks we will tally each classrooms score to find out which class will win the “Golden Boot” Award. More information to follow.

HEAD LICE

We have had a reported case of head lice. This is not a serious concern, as your child may not be affected, however head lice are

extremely contagious.

We ask that parents please be vigilant in checking their children’s hair for lice.

Thank you.
