Baptism: First Saturday of the month at 1:00 PM. Parents

must come to the Rectory with the with child’s original birth

certificate at least one or two months in advance. Instruction is

held on the Monday before the Baptism at 7:00 PM. For more

information please contact the Rectory.

Thirteen Sunday Ordinary Time Jesus is determined to carry out God’s

Will. We hear in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 9,

verse 51 that “He resolutely set out for Jerusa-

lem.” Other translations express differently his

firmness to go to the city, which will condemn

him, saying “he set his face to go to Jerusalem.”

Jesus sees Jerusalem differently from us. Alt-

hough He sees the sins of the people – of all of us

– he already has the vision of what Jerusalem –

all of us – will be: a Heavenly Jerusalem. His

face shines continuously upon us, because He

does not want our souls to be lost and con-

demned; on the contrary, He wants us to be

saved. He knows that his radiant face is able to

transform us, evil as we may be, in the true im-

age of God. Through his death and resurrection,

He already rejoices in seeing us made radiant by

his power. In this Gospel Jesus is on his way to

Jerusalem, and passing through Samaritan vil-

lage, He finds a lot of rejection from the people.

Samaritans, for religious reasons, are hostile to

Jews, and therefore to Jesus too. Precisely in this

context, we see how Jesus’ mercy transcends any

division of any kind. He came to save, not to

condemn. Therefore, if we call ourselves Chris-

tians, we need to desire the salvation of our

neighbor, without despising him. How easy is to

fall in a path of vengeance! May this Gospel sof-

ten our hearts, so that we may rejoice together

with Christ when He will come in glory one day.

True love desires the best for every person, in

spite of his sin.

Domingo XIII del Tiempo Ordinario

Jesús esta’ determinado hacer la voluntad

de Dios. Escuchamos en el Evangelio de Lucas

capítulo 9 versículo 5 que “Él tomo’ la decisión

de ir a Jerusalén.” En otras traducciones, esta idea

de valentía para llegar a la ciudad que por el Me-

sías significa su muerte, esta’ formulada con esta

frase: “Él, con determinación, afirmó su rostro

para ir a Jerusalén.” Jesús ve a Jerusalén non co-

mo la vemos nosotros. La ve con un rostro de

amor – que es el rostro de Dios ¿Quién es Jerusa-

lén? Es tú y yo. Jesús ve a esta ciudad, que quiere

matarlo, ya como una nueva creación. Así nos

mira Cristo: Él, aunque ve nuestros pecados, sabe

bien que su poder puede transformarnos. Cada

vez que Cristo mira hacia nosotros estamos tras-

formados por su rostro radiante. Así como Él ya

ve Jerusalén trasformada en ciudad celestial por

su futura muerte y resurrección, así también nos

ve a nosotros: restaurados en la imagen del Dios

viviente. Esto es el momento de la Fe. Podemos

despreciar a nuestro prójimo en su pecado, o po-

demos desear su sanación espiritual por medio de

la intervención de Dios. En este Evangelio, como

que Jesús iba a Jerusalén causo’ el desagrado de

los Samaritanos. Estos están en contra de lo Ju-

díos por motivaciones religiosas. Y aquí’ vemos

el amor de Cristo a donde, al contrario de sus dis-

cípulos, es para salvar al hombre y no a condenar-

lo: “el Hijo del Hombre no ha venido para des-

truir las almas de los hombres, sino para salvar-

las.” Eso quiere decir que si uno desea seguir a

Cristo y su Corazón de amor, tiene que tener en

cuenta que se enfrentará con la violencia de los

que no quieren misericordia.
