Rotary Technology Tournament Competition - Just before half term, three teams of Tech-

nology students travelled to Deeside College to take part in the Rotary Technology Tour-

nament sponsored by Airbus, encouraging pupils to think about engineering as a career

choice. A challenge was given to construct a bridge, one section of which had to allow tall

ships to pass through. Each team was given a controlled amount of materials and an

expert apprentice to help, they were judged on the function and aesthetics of the build. In

the foundation level team Llyon, Sian, Bethan and Olivia constructed a beam bridge with

a pulley lever and won their class. The advanced group were Alistair, Freya, Rhys and

Imogen who constructed an arched bridge with a double lever and two pulley systems,

also winning their class. The overall competition winners were Gio, Andrews and Toby

who impressed the judges with a reinforced arch bridge and pulley lever section. All stu-

dents received a goody bag and document wallet from Airbus and had a really fun day,

well done!

Well done to everybody who represented St. Brigid's at the Football Festival

in Ruthin yesterday. They all played with great spirit and were a credit

to the school.

On Thursday before Half Term, Year 4 spent a lovely day at Speke Hall in Liverpool. The sun was shining as we spent the morning having a tour of this wonderful Tudor home and learning all about the history of the house. The afternoon was spent mak-ing pomanders and learning about Tudor clothes. We even man-aged to turn two of our class members into very convincing Tu-dors! A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all.

The children in the primary school were very fortunate to receive a surprise visit from the Fire Service this morning. The children

welcomed the team to the school to talk about this half terms topics: ‘Bonfire Night’ and

‘The Great Fire of London’.

The children were able to ask the firefighters lots of interesting questions about the

equipment firefighters use and how they help rescue people. In KS2 the children learnt

about how to stay safe at home and what to do if the smoke alarm sounds. All of the chil-

dren had the opportunity to try on some of the firefighters uniform and to use the fire en-

gines hose! The school would like to thank Amy, Rhys and Vicky from the fire service for

their time today – the children certainly had an informative and enjoyable morning.

Orienteering for Primary – Thursday 2nd November

On Thursday, all of Year 5 and 6 had an introduction to orienteering during their latest PE lesson, from Lt Col Wood.

Everyone learned how to orientate the map (hold it so that it is easier to read the features around you), how to follow a simple course and learned most of the map symbols needed. There was lots of running about and they are looking forward to the next les-son.

Thanks to Mrs DVD and Mr Madog for manning the clipboards (and sorting out the chaos of the lesson), and to Mrs Maloney and Mrs Roberts. Our next event is on Saturday 12 Nov 2016 at Erddig near Wrexham, and anyone who wants to go should let Mr Madog know, who has all the details.

St Brigid’s School Association -Supporting our pupils

Hello and welcome back to everyone after half term.

Thank you to everybody who supported our last event.

Our next event is the

Christmas Tombola

Friday 18th

November at 7pm The Tombola evening consists of a Spectacular 400 prize Tombola and Grand Hamper Raffle along with other stalls such as a Chocolate Tombola, Christmas Arts & Crafts, Face Painting, Find the Golden Nose and Snowball Mayhem.

There will also be a BBQ and Prosecco and Mulled Wine Bar. We are also expecting a visit from Father Christmas.

On Tombola day pupils may come in their home clothes (or Christmas themed clothes!) but instead of a voluntary financial contribution we ask that pupils bring in a good quality prize for the Tombola such as bottles, chocolates,

beauty products etc.

Teddies!!

To enable us to run the very popular Teddy Stall please can you send into school any good quality, clean cuddly

toys as prizes for the teddy stall. These can be brought to the admin office before the 18th please!!

Raffle Tickets The Spirit, Food and Sweets raffle hampers are on display in school and we have included a book of raffle tickets

for you to purchase. Please return your raffle tickets to school in the envelope provided.

This may read as a list of demands but please understand that we really try to make this event as successful as possible to allow us to fund as much as we can for the children of St Brigid’s. If you are able to sell more than one

book there are more available from the admin office. Oh and of course all tickets need to be returned by the 18th!!!

If you have more than one child at St Brigid’s please do not feel you have to purchase all books, just return any un-

used ones to the admin office.

For health and safety reasons pupils must go home after school as they will not be supervised between the end of

the school day and the start of the Tombola.

Lastly thank you in advance for your support and let’s make this event as successful as possible!! We want to pro-

vide as much as we can for our students this year to support their school experience.
