WISDOM We consider wisdom today. The first reading from the book of Wisdom presents this precious gift as a feminine spirit, a very desirable virtue sought by many and graciously present to all who seek her. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells a parable to illustrate wis-dom in a practical, measurable way. The wise will conserve their resources, use them prudently, and mark the passing of time. The foolish, on the other hand, not planning ahead, will be in the dark. Both of these readings tell us how accessible wisdom is to all who simply and honestly seek it. Paul's words to the Thessalonians are not about wis-dom, but describe one result of true wisdom: To the wise person of faith even death holds no terror. Our faith in Jesus' resurrection tells us we will all one day rise to new life in Christ. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

- MATTHEW 25:13

Many of us have put off doing something because we think we are too busy. We’ve all said, “I’ll do it later when I have time.” Unfortunately, too many of us apply this attitude to our Faith. Jesus’ call is urgent, in the here and now, in your current circumstanc-es. Don’t delay, how is God calling you to use your gifts today?

National Catholic Register The NCR has been made available since July as an ed-ucational tool for adult Catholics' growth. Recently covered was the extensive history on the Reformation - did you read it? For guidance on T.V. and home videos, check out the ARTS & ENTER-TAINMENT section. Trekkies will love it!

THE GAP It’s interesting that there is such a huge gap be-tween advice and help. —Anonymous

Outreach Committee Annual Coat Drive

The Parish Outreach Com-mittee begins it’s annual coat drive for needy children

of Effingham County this weekend thru November 19. So many coats have already been donated for elemen-tary and middle school children! We are really in need of high school age jackets, hoodies or coats. Your gen-erosity in past has helped hundreds of children and I know we will exceed our expectations again this year. You may drop your donations by the parish office or there will be a box located in the foyer for your dona-tions. One coat, one jacket, one hoodie; you can make a difference in a child’s life.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development Next week, our second collection will be for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Over 46 million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports pro-grams to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to lift themselves out of poverty. By supporting this collection you give people a hand up, not a hand out. Learn more about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at www.usccb.org/cchd/collection.

Feast Day November 13 St. Frances Xavier Cabrini was born as Maria Francesca Cabrini on July 15, 1850 in Sant' Angelo Lodigiano, Lom-bardy, Italy. She was born two months premature and the youngest of thirteen children. Unfortunately, only three of her siblings survived past adolescence

and Frances would live most of her life in a fragile and delicate state of health. Frances became dedicat-ed to living a life for religious work from a young age and received a convent education at a school ran by the Daughters of the Sacred Heart. She graduated with high honors and a teaching certificate. When Frances was 18, she applied for admission to the reli-gious congregation of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart, but was turned down because of her poor health. Instead, a priest asked her to teach at the House of Providence Orphanage in Cadagono, Italy. She taught at the girls' school for six years and drew a community of women in to live the religious way of life. In 1877, she became Mother Cabrini after she finally made her vows and took the religious habit, also adding Xavier to her name in honor of St. Fran-cis Xavier. When the House of Providence Orphan-age closed, her bishop asked her, along with six other women from her orphanage in Cadagono, to find the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart to care for the poor children in both schools and hospitals.

ADVENT RETREAT: Hosted by St. Michael’s Women’s Club on Sat., Dec. 2 at All Saints Episcopal Church meeting room, 804 Jones Ave. (parking on 2nd St.). Gather at 9 AM; retreat starts at 9:30 AM and closing prayer is at Noon. Join for this “mini-retreat” of silent reflection as you prepare your Christmas cards or other “quiet” crafts (sewing, knitting, crochet, etc.). Seasonal and spiritual music will be play-ing softly in the background and brief meditations will be read aloud at intervals. Bring a friend and/or break-fast bread, bagel, muffin or fruit. Juice, coffee and wa-ter provided. For information contact Jane Bock at 912-398-4536 and RSVP at [email protected].
