Council election for this year. The executive members for

2017-2018 are:

Chair: D. Darmanin-Sturgeon

Treasurer: T. Rossi

Secretary: C. Birnie

Parish Rep.: C. Vigneault

Community Rep. J. Szarota

OAPCE Rep.: A. Marasco

Teacher Rep: A. Giovinazzo/ D. Poole

Non-Teacher Rep.: S. Di Bello

Fundraising Chair: L. Milando

Congratulations and thank you to those who have committed

to dedicate themselves this year to meet the needs of all the

students in our school community. Please consider becoming

involved in St. Angela Merici Catholic School Council. All

parents are welcome to attend meetings scheduled throughout

the school year.

Next School Council Meeting Wednesday, October 18 @ 6:30pm

LUNCHES

Thank you to the School Council who have organized pizza

lunches every Tuesday. We encourage all parents to use the

CashOnline system for payment. The Lunch Lady will also

provide lunch service to those interested, beginning October

13, 2017.

BUS ROUTE

Please do not park in the bus route at the front of the school.

This is a fire route and buses need access. Cars parked at the

front, especially at 3:00, block the bus and cause traffic jams

in the kiss and ride. If you need to park, please park on the

street in the designated areas or use the kiss and ride to meet

your children. Thank you for your understanding in making

picking up your children safe and efficient for everyone.

As mentioned in our September Newsletter, the

beginning of each school year is always marked by

unexpected changes in enrollment. This school year,

St. Angela Merici School required some

reorganization due to a change in enrollment actuals.

We thank all parents and guardians for their patience

with school reorganization. The staff at St. Angela

Merici School has been an instrumental part of this

reorganization process.

On Monday, October 2nd, the staff and students of St. Angela

Merici School participated in the annual Terry Fox walk to

commemorate the 37th anniversary of Terry Fox’s

inspirational Marathon of Hope. Organized by Mr.

Giovinazzo this event began with an inspirational video

followed by a walk in our community. Thank you to all parent

volunteers who were able to join us. We raised $4131.45 for

cancer research.

Anyone working with children as an employee or volunteer

must have a Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector

Search completed by the Peel Police. CRCs are free of charge

for volunteers until January 2018, at which time there will be

a fee. Forms may be picked up from the school office.

Please note that all doors at St. Angela

Merici School are locked. Our buzzer

system is located on the right-hand side of

the main doors. When gaining entrance to

the school, please press the buzzer and wait

for the door to be unlocked. Please note,

you may be asked to identify yourself and reason for entering

the school. Thank you for your cooperation.

All visitors, including parents, must check in at the

main office when entering the school. If you are

signing in as a volunteer or a visitor you will receive a

Visitor Sticker or tag. If you are picking up your child

during regular school hours, we ask that you report to

the office and we will arrange for your child to meet

you there. This procedure will reduce interruptions to

classroom instruction and also helps us to maintain a

safe environment for the children.

We thank you for your co-operation in supporting

a safe environment at St. Angela Merici School.

KISS AND RIDE

A friendly reminder that Kiss and Ride is

intended for students who can

independently exit a car on the passenger side. If you

need to assist your child, or exit your vehicle, please

park in a parking spot or on the street in a designated

area. Thank you for your cooperation.

TRANSPORTATION:

COURTESY SEATING

We will be informing students who are eligible for

courtesy seats prior to the end of October.

PICTURE DAY

Picture Day will take place on October 23rd. Smile!

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY

We ask that parents continue to support their children

in their morning routines so that they can arrive to

school on time, minimizing disruptions to the learning

environment. Supervision is provided as of 8:15 AM.

Please ensure arrangements are in place to pick up your

children at 3:00 PM.

PEDICULOSIS (HEAD LICE)

From time to time, there may be cases of pediculosis or head

lice in our school. This should not be cause for alarm. Lice

are a nuisance, but not hazardous to your child’s health. An

alert letter will be sent home to parents and guardians of the

affected classes. If more information is required you may visit

the Region of Peel at the following website:

http://www.peelregion.ca/health/topics/headlice

ONLINE PAYMENTS

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board now has

School Cash Online. School Cash Online allows parents and

community members to pay school-related fees online safely,

quickly, and easily. For further information, please refer to

the Online Payment icon the DPCDSB webpage to get the

most updated information.

HALLOWEEN DANCE

The annual Halloween Dance will be held on Tuesday,

October 31, 2017. This event is for students of all grades.

Since students will have the opportunity to wear costumes,

parents and students are reminded that masks, weapons and

long costumes that drag on the ground are not permitted for

safety reasons. We are inviting students to bring in a toonie

donation in support of the devastation to others from

hurricanes and earthquakes. We look forward to this fun-filled

day!
