EVERY WEEK ON WEDNESDAY EVENINGS AT 6:30 PM IN THE PARISH CONFERENCE ROOM.
Children, adults and families meet with “already Catholics” and Father Larry
To talk about what it means to be a Catholic. We welcome all who would like to be part of this group.
MANY THANKS TO TRIMANY THANKS TO TRI--STATE PHARMACYSTATE PHARMACY Our deep appreciation to J.J. Barnabei of Tri-State Pharmacy for the donation of an AED for the church! Given the number of calls to 911 during recent Sunday masses for parishioners who have become ill during our liturgies, this defibrillator will assist on site medical/nursing volunteers to provide help to our members who may experience heart related problems. We are grateful to Mr. Barnabei and his associates for this important piece of equipment which complements the wheelchair the Pharmacy previously donated to us.
CCATHOLICATHOLIC SSCHOOLSCHOOLS WWEEKEEK 20152015 We salute both Madonna High School and Saint Paul Grade School
this Catholic Schools Week. Our parish has supported these ministries of education from their founding days in 1954 and 1918 respectively. Both have from the beginning been intended to carry
out the Gospel’s mission of “fishing for men and women.” As disciples of Jesus, we have the responsibility of helping our children follow Christ and become his disciples. This is the primary purpose
and reason for the existence of our Catholic schools. Great scholarships and state sports championships are wonderful, but
unless our graduates become followers of Jesus Christ our schools are not doing what we have established them to be.

This week: The Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Jonah 3:1-5,10 1 Corinthians 7:29-31 Mark 1:14-20
Background: This week we get a different version of the call of the first disciples than we had last week. This week it’s from Mark’s not John’s Gospel. And it’s very different! Mark’s version is
cut and dry: Jesus calls; the disciples follow. It is almost too clean, too bare bones. Mark apparently wanted all the emphasis to be on the call and the response. We would like to have
know how Jesus knew the disciples before he called them as well as how the disciples made the decision to follow (for example, if they discussed it with their wives and families, how they made provisions for their fishing businesses before they left, etc.) But Mark writing in about 70 C.E.
when the Church was facing intense persecution was only interested in disciples who were willing to responded “immediately” to the call of the Lord with their entire and complete lives and
devotion, no questions asked. He is not reporting the historical event of 30 C.E. when Jesus actually called the first disciples; rather, he is teaching a lesson to the church of his time and our about discipleship. This is a
critical difference to be considered when we hear this text.
Next Week: Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Deuteronomy 18:15-20 I Corinthians 7:32-35 Mark 1:21-28
TTABLEABLE OFOF HHOPEOPE The Table offers a free hot meal three evenings a week to anyone who wants it at the First Methodist
Church on West Street from 5-6:30 Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Volunteers are needed Mondays and Wednesdays especially to assist in preparing and serving the meals from about 4 pm
until 6:30. Please bring the children; it’s a great learning experience for them. If you can help, call Lori Duke 304-670-9544.

Best of all, we make it fun, offering review games, races, coloring, and crafts at the lower levels. For our older students, discussions are held centered around compelling video clips, opportunities for reflective journaling, and hilarious Gospel skits.
