The Lisbon Resolution:

Where’s Our Focus?

The five colours make man's eyes blind; The five notes make his ears deaf; The five flavours injure his palate;Riding and hunting make his mind go mad.Goods hard to come by serve to hinder his progress.Hence the sage is for the belly and not the eye. Therefore he discards the one and takes the other.

Tao Te Ching 12

Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.

Habakkuk 2:2-3

Sometimes you are going in the proper direction and at other times you are heading in just the reverse. You may make a resolution to work for the goal and devote yourself for the sake of God and the world-and then at the next moment you look at what others are doing and

decide to take it easy for a while. You are constantly changing, and if you continue living that way, you will become confused and not even know yourself! This is why it is necessary to spell out in detail the nature of our mission. The overall mission is the same for everyone here although individual missions vary.

(Cont.) To gain God's companionship, youshould always think about your lifetime vocation, your mission, and your prayer. Twenty-four hours a day you should be centred on these things. If you are good at prayer and make it a habit, you won't have to wonder what to do. Your mind will

automatically direct you properly. You can be confident of your direction and never have to waste time wondering if you are right. Sometimes you may choose what you think is the right way and start heading there and suddenly find your feet swinging around the other way, responding to the automatic direction that your mind developed through prayer. When such things happen, you will realize that God is right beside you.
