Spunbond Polyester Nonwoven Craft Fabric Directions The directions are the same for all sizes. All seam allowances are ˝. 1. Mark the bag for the casing: In the seam allowance, mark 2 lines: a line 1˝ down and a line 1˝ down from the top on each side of each piece of Spunbond. This marks where the casing will be, and the gap will be left open when the sides are sewn. 2. Sew the 2 pieces together: Using a ˝ seam, sew the 2 pieces right sides together. (If you have stamped or painted on the Spunbond, the decorated side will be the “right” side.) Sew down 1 edge, stopping and backstitching at the first mark, then move ˝ to the next mark. Secure the thread and continue sewing down the edge, across the bottom, and up to the marks on the other side. Leave the gap as you did on the first edge. 3. Create the casing for the drawstring: Finger-press the side seams open about 3˝–4˝ down the bag from the upper edge. Fold the top edge down 1˝ and pin, making sure to keep both seams flat and open. Sew completely around the top of the bag, ˝ down from the top edge. Trim the bottom corners to reduce bulk, and turn the bag right side out. The holes in the casing for the drawstring are now on the outside of the bag. 4. Insert drawstring: If you wish to prevent the cord from fraying, use seam sealant to seal the ends. Attach a safety pin to 1 end of the cord and thread the cord through the casing, all the way around. Pull it back out the same side you started. Tie the ends of the drawstring together in a knot, forming a loop. You can close the bag by tying the loops together in the middle, or by sliding the bag toward 1 end of the loop. Cutting To make a veggie bag in a custom size, add ˝ to the desired horizontal measurement and 1˝ to the desired vertical measurement when cutting the Spunbond. For the 7˝ × 14˝ bag, cut: 2 pieces of Spunbond, each 7˝ × 15˝ 30˝ piece of cord For the 10˝ × 10˝ bag, cut: 2 pieces of Spunbond, each 10˝ × 11˝ 50˝ piece of cord For the 12˝ × 12˝ bag, cut: 2 pieces of Spunbond, each 12˝ × 13˝ 60˝ piece of cord Note If you would like to stencil, stamp, paint, or sew anything onto your bag, do that first before assembling. The appliqués on the samples were made using TAP fused to cotton fabric and then sewn to the Spunbond. Do not fuse TAP directly to the Spunbond, as the temperature needed for the TAP will melt the Spunbond. DirectionsThe directions are the same for all sizes. All seam allowances are 1/4˝.

1. Mark the bag for the casing: In the seam allowance, mark 2 lines: a line 11/4˝ down and a line 13/4˝ down from the top on each side of each piece of Spunbond. This marks where the casing will be, and the gap will be left open when the sides are sewn.

2. Sew the 2 pieces together: Using a 1/4˝ seam, sew the 2 pieces right sides together. (If you have stamped or painted on the Spunbond, the decorated side will be the “right” side.) Sew down 1 edge, stopping and backstitching at the first mark, then move 1/2˝ to the next mark.

Sew completely around the top of the bag, 3/4˝ down from the top edge.
