Please spend some time discussing the areas of the topic map with your child. Your child should be able to guide you through the topic map but if you have any queries please feel free to ask me. Please remember: We have P.E. every Thursday and Friday. Please ensure that on these days your child enters school in the correct P.E. Kit. Children are able to wear either shorts or tracksuit bottoms to school with their PE kit; if you are concerned that your child will be too hot/cold in shorts or tracksuit bottoms, you can always send them in with shorts or tracksuit bottoms in their bag, or wearing their shorts under their tracksuit bottoms, so they can change if they need to. They are then to wear their house colour t-shirt for P.E. Homework: The children are set homework each Friday and need to return it by the following Wednesday. PARENT AND CARER LEARNING NEWSLETTER

Year: 5 Autumn Term 2 2016

Dear Parents and Carers,

On the other side of this leaflet is a topic map, which shows all of the areas of the curriculum your child has been and will be learning this half term.

Homework is an important activity that either reinforces learning from the week or picks up on current issues. Doing this homework also teaches children about responsibility for their own learning. This also includes reading everyday and recording this reading in the reading diary. Children are also expected to remember to write a comment once they have complete the homework and ask their parent or carer to sign or write a comment. Please make every effort to enable your child to complete and hand it in on time each week.

Ways you can help your child reach their full potential: In the reading diaries there are now key spellings. These include the national curriculum spelling words for year 5 and 6. By helping them learn these, it can also help them introduce exciting language within their literact. The children are ginding multiplying and dividing challenging, as a result of not knowing times tables fluently. By practise their times tables daily it will help them achieve and succeed whwn . Read with your child and try to ask them questions about the story/text that they have read.
