Office prior to making schedule changes. Students sponsored by other programs (WIA, HRDI, etc.) are advised to contact their program coordinators before making schedule changes. Effect of Schedule Changes on Financial Aid Award Students who receive grant or loan aid will be required to repay a portion of aid received if: • they withdraw from the university within the first 60 percent

semester; or • they are enrolled in a mini course which is cancelled before

the first day of class. Residency for Tuition Purposes Residency for tuition purposes is determined by information you provide on your application to NMSU for admission or for readmission. A continuing student classified as a non-resident who has satisfied the requirements to establish residency may submit a Petition for In-State Residency Tuition Classification along with the required supporting documentation to Student Services Office, Room 111. Petitions must be filed on or before the census date of the semester effective. An individual must establish legal residency in New Mexico before he or she is entitled to pay in-state tuition rates. The requirements to establish residency for tuition purposes are independent from those of other types of residency such as voting and holding public office. Who is eligible for residency for tuition purposes? U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents who are financially independent, those that are not claimed by parents or guardians on federal income tax return, and can provide documentation of having resided in New Mexico for the past 12 consecutive months may be eligible to petition for residency for in-state tuition purposes. The following individuals may also receive a waiver of non-resident tuition and are not required to complete the 12-month duration requirement. Sufficient documentation will be required for each:

• An individual married to a legal resident of NM.

• Spouse and dependent children of a person who has moved to NM and has obtained permanent full-time employment.

• Non-resident members of the U.S. armed forces, and their spouses and dependent children stationed on active duty in NM.

• Active participating members of the New Mexico National Guard and their spouse and dependents.

• A spouse or children of a veteran or the armed forces, provided the spouse or child is eligible for benefits pursuant to the federal Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 or any other federal law authorizing educational benefits for a veteran and the dependents of a veteran.

• Active service members of the U.S. armed forces who were legal residents of New Mexico prior to entering service may retain their NM residency.

• Individuals, their spouses and dependents who moved to NM for retirement purposes.

• Members of an Indian nation, tribe or pueblo located wholly or partially in NM, regardless of residence.

• Part-time students enrolled for six hours or less during a regular semester.

• During summer sessions, non-residents tuition may be waived according to the institution’s tuition policy.

• Texas residents who reside within a 135 mile radius of an institution.

• Colorado and Arizona residents’ tuition reciprocity participants selected by eligible institutions based on criteria set by each eligible institution.

• Any student receiving a state-funded athletic scholarship from a NM public post-secondary institution. Graduate assistants employed at least one-fourth time (10 hours weekly).

Campus SaVE Act

NMSU does not tolerate any sexual violence to include partner violence which can be defined as any physical, sexual, or psychological harm against an individual by a current or former partner or spouse of the individual. Such sexual violence covers domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking. The Campus SaVE Act compliments and is a companion to Title IX and assists with the response to and prevention of sexual violence in higher education. The Act provides a framework for educational institutions to address incidents of sexual violence occurring on-campus, on public property within and adjacent to campus, and at non-campus properties like off-campus student organization housing, campus sponsored events and remote classrooms. All new students, including Adult Education students, Dual Credit high school students, and non-degree students must participate in training on the Campus SaVE Act. All employees will receive the President’s policy on an annual basis. Failure to comply with the training will result in disenrollment from courses or the inability to register for courses and participate on the NMSU campuses. Training will be provided for students at the mandatory New Student Orientation, as well as an online training.

The complete text of this policy will be maintained on the OIE website: https://equity.nmsu.edu/

Spring 2022 Final Exam Schedule

• Below is the final exam schedule for the Spring 2022

semester. All regular M/W and T/R classes will adhere to the exam schedule. Exams will be held in the room where the course has met throughout the semester. The instructor may or may not decide to require a final exam; however, the class must meet.

• For all other classes, final exams will be held during the regular class period on the last day of class.

• Weekend classes will meet as usual and are not required to adhere to the Exam Week Schedule. Their final exams will be held during the regular class period on the last day of class.

• Students with exam schedule conflicts must contact instructors before March 10, 2022.

• Any student having more than three (3) exams in any one day should contact the instructor of the last exam listed and ask for alternate arrangements for that exam.

• Faculty are not allowed to hold examinations lasting more than one class period during the last week of regular class. In addition, faculty only can reschedule exams outside of the regularly scheduled exam period with the unanimous consent of the students and with permission of the Chief Academic Officer/Provost. Students who feel that their rights have been violated should contact the Vice President for Student Services.

Additional Course Information Class Cancellations NMSU Carlsbad reserves the right to cancel any course. Decisions regarding the cancellation of specific classes may be made as early as the close of the registration period, or as late as the close of the first day of class. Since the major determining factor for cancellations is enrollment, students are strongly encouraged to register early in the registration period.

Schedule Modification/Updates Information in the Spring 2022 Class Schedule is accurate at press time. If or when changes are made (cancellations, adds, time-date changes, etc.), the changes can be viewed by checking our website at https://courselookup.nmsu.edu/login.php Students are urged to check the ONLINE SCHEDULE and meet with an academic advisor before registering. It is understood that any item in this publication is subject to modification at any time by proper administrative procedure.

To help you better understand our schedule, we are providing a brief explanation of some of the content. For additional information regarding prerequisites, consent of instructor, S/U grading, etc., please see the course description in our most recent catalog. Dual credit classes are classes offered only to Early College High School and High School Dual Credit students. Mirror classes are classes, which are offered as dual credit and therefore must be offered to New Mexico State University Carlsbad students. Mirror classes will only be taught should there be sufficient enrollment to constitute a full class; at that time an instructor and day/time will be assigned. This schedule is only current at the moment it is printed and becomes out-of-date as soon as a class is added or canceled. For up to the minute class schedule information, please go to https://courselookup.nmsu.edu/login.php. Please note that while page 11 of this schedule does list specific course fees associated with certain courses, it may not be all inclusive as this scheduled is published in advance of the actual courses beginning. Here are some links sites on NMSU’s website that will assist you.

Note: Regarding Online Classes, the federal government now says that for an online student to receive federal aid, that student must complete an assignment to be considered as “attending”. The assignment could be as simple as a question.
