where the Lord meant everythingto us. Looking back, it's a little scary how easy it was to turn my back on Him, but that'sexactly what I did. It started "innocently" enough. I married and had four beautiful kids. Iwasn't a drug or alcohol user but my life simply did not include God.
Imagine my shock when my wife told me she didn't want to be marriedanymore. I wasn't mean or abusive, she just wanted out. Things got toughright away. I didn't earn enoughmoney to provide a second home
for me and my children.
I worked at several jobs - oftenliving in my car - and renting ahotel on weekends so the kidscould visit me. Sending my children home was so hard. When thewarehouse where I worked closed, my loneliness escalated. Iwas homeless and hurting and began using drugs to escape -but it only made things worse.
I was dragging my wonderful kids through the mud. I was inthe pit of sorrow from which I longed to escape - but I
didn't know how. I knew I needed help. I packed mybelongings and left for the Bay Area Rescue Mission.
At the door, a Mission counselor welcomed me warmly. He invited me in and encouragedme to attend chapel. During the message I said, "Wow, I'm in church again!" It had been25 years since I turned my back on God. It felt good to be back again.
I enrolled in the Mission's long-term recovery program.I learned about God's forgiveness once again and foundthe real peace I had longed for as He lifted me out of thepit. Loneliness and drugs faded from my life.
I graduated from the program and it felt good to be wholeagain. But things weren't always easy. I struggled to find ajob. But with the Mission's help, I brushed up on computer skills and God never let medown. After submitting hundreds of applications for employment, a home-improvementstore hired me as a stock clerk.
Today, I continue to work at the store. In fact, I have received several promotions and nowI'm a manager. My kids are so happy with the changes in me that several of them havestarted attending church, too.
I just want to say thank you to the Mission's donors. I owe you a debt of gratitude becauseyour generosity rescued me. I am a changed man today, because of you. Thank you and
God bless you!
I was raised in a good home,

Since 1965 the Bay Area RescueMission has offered real solutions to
the homeless and desperately needy of the greater
San Francisco Bay Area. During the last 23 years Ihave been blessed to make the ministry of Rescue mycareer, and honestly, the miracle of rescued lives stillamazes me!
I know that people like you become supporters of theRescue Mission for a great many reasons; to makesure people have safe shelter, nutritious meals, educational training, job training, basic life skills, legal aid, family counseling, medical care, jobplacement, or help in overcoming unhealthyaddictions. Yes, people like you give to the Bay Area
Rescue Mission because you genuinely care aboutpeople.
I also know that many of you make a sacrifice inorder to help people in great need, and I want toshare that the homeless and needy who receive the
help you make possible are very, very grateful! I, alsappreciate the commitment you have exhibitedthrough your support and contributions.
While we offer a wide range of assistance toeveryone who comes to the Bay Area Rescue Missioin need, we do so without, in any way requiring therecipient's commitment to change their life or accepthe hope that God offers through Jesus Christ.
And although there is no requirement to acknowledor accept Jesus, we want to unashamedly share that
Jesus Christ is able to dramatically transform a lifethat has been devastated. Sharing Jesus is the veryheart of the Mission and it is the underlying reasonfor the Mission's existence and sustained strength foforty years.
Since January 1, 2000, when my wife, Debra, and Ibecame the directors of the Bay Area Rescue Missiothe Mission has maintained a success rate of greaterthan 80%. That means that of the adults whocompleted our recovery programs, more than 80%are employed, live in their own homes, pay their
taxes, attend church on a regular basis and live ascontributing citizens of our community!
As we look back at the accomplishments of 2005 anforward to opportunities in 2006, I want to thank yofor being a part of the family of Rescue, and whatevmotivates you to help people in great need - you canbe sure that your support is accomplishing wonderfuthings. For this and for you, we continually thank ouGod!

I know because mine started off that way. My earchildhood was a challenge. I was in and out of foshomes, sometimes living with mygrandma, sometimes withmy mom - things were veryunpredictable.
I got pregnant early and
had three sons. When mymom died, I fell into adeep depression. Istarted using drugs asa crutch to help mecope. Soon I had afull-blown addiction. My boys ended upin foster care and Iwatched the cycleof my early liferepeat itself in their
lives. I had tochange - but how?
My first step was to quit using drugs - I got clean bI was still empty on the inside. One day my sistersold her home and moved. Suddenly, I was homewith no job and no support. I was about to fall bac
into bad habits.
The Bay Area Rescue Missiwas there for me! They gme a place to stay, and I
decided to join the long-term program. I have juscompleted one year in thprogram here and I havegrown so much. Many
missing pieces of my lifehave been found. Not only d
have three sons, but I am agrandmother and thank the Lord, I'm becomingthe kind of mother and grandmother I want to be!
My life makes sense now - I've learned how to set
goals, make a budget and manage finances. I worka residential care home where it feels good to helpothers. Best of all, I've come to know Jesus and thplace He holds in my life.
I'm looking forward to the day - not far off - when will get my own place. Thanks to the Mission, Iknow I will be able to make it. It won't always beeasy, but God is with me and Bible study encourame.
To everyone who supports the Mission, thank you
Your care and support have made all the differencfor this grandma.
