Definitions

50th percentile:

Percentiles are used to determine the relative standing of an individual in a population or the rankposition of the individual in comparison to others.

The fiftieth percentile is a measure that shows the mean range of 50 per cent of teachers in theteaching evaluation. For example if one score a mean 3.90 for item 12, this score indicates that theteacher was within the range of half the number of teachers who evaluated their teaching.

Implications:

1. Mean score within the 50th percentile range is considered acceptable performance. Attentionhowever should be paid if ones performance is closer to the lower limit.

2. Mean scores below this range (lower limit) signifies that the performance is in the lower quartile(or lower 25% of those who evaluated their teaching) and action should be taken to addressthese areas.

3. Scores above the upper limit in the range indicates that performance is above 75% of those whoevaluated their teaching.

Percentage Agreement:Is calculated from the total of all responses to scores of 4 (agree) and 5 (strongly agree).

Percentage Disagreement:Is calculated from the total of all responses to scores of 1 (strongly disagree) and2 (disagree).

Mean:Is the average of a set of numbers. In this case the mean is the average of the total scores ofresponses for each item.
