Supplements

Whether you’re trying to lose weight, or gain weight, supplements might be something you’re considering. Thousands of people daily take sometimes upwards of 20 vitamin supplements. Many are sold with misleading marketing plans claiming they’ll help you lost weight or burn fat and gain muscle where you can see a difference almost right away. It’s as much of a scam as it sounds like. There are a bunch of supplements, though, that sports physicians recommend to patients all the time. As well, pregnant women and others on a day to day basis may take certain supplements such as vitamin D to make up for a deficiency.

Products such as protein powders, amino acids, vitamins, creatine, weight loss aids, energy boosters and many others are all examples of supplements. It’s common for those that are younger and easily influenced to be major targets for different scams. Though specific supplements are advised to be taken by physicians, many sports doctors and other major physicians believe that the risks of using supplements outweigh the so called benefits.

Supplements don’t need a prescription, which could be why they’re so popular. However, there are multiple supplements that sports medicine doctors find to be extremely beneficial and advise their patients to take

daily in order to help maintain and or treat injuries. Sports injury clinics may even sell certain supplements. For example, devil’s claw is said to help pain, and ginger root is said to help nausea. These have been proven strongly successful supplements. However, there are some such as acai and flaxseed oil that are thought to increase weight loss and improve digestion, but there’s not much evidence.

Though many, many supplements are harmless and truly do help aid with certain functions in the human body, there are also some that do the complete opposite and may harm certain parts of the body more so than anything else. Sports doctors warn their patients that certain supplements might even counteract your actual prescriptions where they don’t do what they’re supposed to and it is as if you’re just taking the supplements. As well, you could be taking too much of a certain nutrient. Too much of a certain supplement can be harmful.

It is also important to keep in mind that though your sports medicine physician may be suggesting you take or look into certain supplements, that supplements are regulated as foods and not as drugs through the FDA; which means, the quality and effects of such supplements aren’t measured on the body. It has become more advisable for athletes and others to try and succeed faster with their health goals not by supplements but by healthy choices in the kitchen and to carry a strict diet to avoid any problems from supplements.
