DESCRIPTION
outlines the essentials of being a catechistTRANSCRIPT
POWER OF YOUR LOVE
Lord, I come to YouLet my heart be changed, renewed;Flowing from the grace that I’ve found in You.Lord, I’ve come to know the weakness I see in me will be stripped away by the power of Your Love.
Refrain: Hold me close, let your love surround me. Bring me near, draw me to Your side. And as I wait, I’ll rise up like the eagle. And I will soar with You, Your Spirit leads me on by the power of Your Love.
Lord, unveil my eyes, let me see You face to face, the knowledge of Your love, as You live in me.
Lord, renew my mind as Your will unfolds in my life in living everyday by the power of Your Love.
Refrain: Hold me close, let your love surround me. Bring me near, draw me to Your side. And as I wait, I’ll rise up like the eagle. And I will soar with You, Your Spirit leads me on by the power of Your Love.
The spirituality of a catechist
SPIRITUALITY• expressed in everything we do
• a style unique to the self that catches up all our attitudes in –
– communal and personal prayer
– behaviour
– bodily expressions
– life choices
– what we support and affirm
– what we protest and deny…
SPIRITUALITY
It is deeply informed by-
– family, teachers, friends
– the community, class, race, culture
– gender
– our time in history
just as it is influenced by –
– beliefs
– intellectual options
– moral options
What attracted you to become a catechist?
Why did you decide to become a catechist?
Why do you remain or stay as a catechist? Are the reasons the same as when you first decided to become one?
Every baptized Catholic is called to be a catechist.
There are some like you who embrace the work of catechesis as a
special vocation.
Whatever be your reasons for deciding and remaining as a
catechist, in order to be true to this vocation, we are ALL invited to grow
in the spirituality of a catechist.
What/Who is a catechist?
What are the qualities of a good catechist?
QUALITIES OF A GOOD CATECHIST
GOOD ROLE MODEL, PRAYERFUL,
COMMITTED/DEDICATED, HUMBLE, BIBLE-ORIENTED, PATIENT, LOVING, TRANSPARENT, GENEROSITY, STRONG IN FAITH,
RESPECTFUL, FIRM IN DECISION, ACT AS A PARENT
A catechist is a witness to and sharer
in the MYSTERY which they themselves live
and lovingly communicate to
others.
Attitudes toward mystery
• thirsting, desiring for more so that we can discover more of the truth that the mystery offers
• profoundly grateful for the little that we are given to understand and surrendered to the immensity of the mystery
• bitter, cynical or rebellious because we refuse to acknowledge or accept a reality that is beyond our human capacities
To grow in the spirituality of a catechist, there are important things that one should practice:
1. regular reflection on the Bible• Reflect on your life
in the light of God’s Word
• Where is God/ Jesus now in my life as a catechist?
• spend time reading the Bible together and sharing insights
2. regular reception of the Sacraments particularly the Eucharist and Reconciliation
3. study and research about our Catholic Faith and the teachings of the Church
4. regular prayer time – personal style and the traditional prayers like the Rosary and the Way of the Cross
5. develop a spirit of deep humility, trust and confidence in God; it is GRACE that makes all things possible
6. A catechist must be prepared to be educated by the living testimony of other people (Catholic or of other religions) who witness faithfully the Gospel values
This recollection is an opportunity for all of you to grow
in spirituality.
May you receive it with an open heart!
