ENvIrONMENTAl STATEMENT

“At Standard Publishing we have made a vow to be environmentally responsible, commit to a carbon strategy and ensure all management decisions give due consideration to their impact on the community and our shared environment.”

7 kEy ElEMENTS Of Our cArbON STrATEGyIn this first year of implementing a Climate Change Strategy, we will focus on 7 Key Elements:

01 calculation of the carbon footprintThe carbon footprint for the operation was determined for the 12 month period June 2007 to May 2008. This formed the baseline to measure future results.

02 completion of an Energy AuditThe carbon footprint has shown that our major source of greenhouse gas emissions is the consumption of electricity. We will therefore conduct an energy audit to identify where we are using energy, and to identify opportunities for energy savings.

Environmental Charter

03 lower our Energy NeedsWe will assess the opportunities identified in the energy audit, build business cases where investment is required, and implement changes to reduce our overall energy requirement. Our target is a 30% reduction in energy use per sales dollar.

04 reduce Delivery vehicle useStandard Publishing have moved from JIT to bulk, monthly paper deliveries, eliminating 80% of supplier shipments. With regard to customer deliveries, we are evaluating the consolidation of loads and optimisation of routes to reduce emissions. Our target is a 25% reduction in ‘kms per delivery’.

05 reduce TravelWe will institute a travel policy that limits staff travel, focusing particularly on ‘making meetings matter’ and alternative communication options such as teleconferencing.

06 communicate a ‘climate focused’ MessageOur message includes educating our supply chain partners and raising the profile of climate change within normal business interactions. The aim of this strategy is to position ourselves for future years to incorporate climate change factors into all purchasing decisions.

07 Management SystemsStandard Publishing will establish system processes and record keeping techniques to support our continued efforts to reduce emissions. The ISO 9001 standard will be used as the basis for this process.
