Spelling Homework – Year 4 Week Ending 20.1.17 Dear Parents/Families, Welcome back to School after the holidays, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a happy new year. We are continuing to work on our spellings and times tables during this term and I will still be sending homework out on a Friday which should be completed and any activities returned to School for the following Friday. This week I would like the children to focus on the trace, copy and replicate strategy, here is a reminder of how to use the strategy. Trace, copy and replicate (and then check it) This is a similar learning strategy to ‘look, say, cover, write and check it’ but it helps to develop automaticity and muscle memory, making the spellings easier as we practice more. 1. Read the spelling. 2. Write the wor out on a sheet of paper (make sure it is spelt correctly and large enough to trace) 3. Trace over the word and say it at the same time 4. Then write the word independently next to the traced word 5. Turn the page over and write the word independently 6. Check your spelling When you feel confident you can leave out the step of tracing and read the word and practice. Times Tables Homework: Please use the racing car mat to help your child learn their groups times tables and counting practice. Red and Yellow Groups: 5 times tables. Blue and Green Groups: 8 times tables.

Spelling Homework – Year 4

Week Ending 20.1.17

Dear Parents/Families,

Welcome back to School after the holidays, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a happy new

year.

We are continuing to work on our spellings and times tables during this term and I will still be

sending homework out on a Friday which should be completed and any activities returned to School

for the following Friday.

This week I would like the children to focus on the trace, copy and replicate strategy, here is a

reminder of how to use the strategy.

Trace, copy and replicate (and then check it)

This is a similar learning strategy to ‘look, say, cover, write and check it’ but it helps to develop

automaticity and muscle memory, making the spellings easier as we practice more.

1. Read the spelling.

2. Write the wor out on a sheet of paper (make sure it is spelt correctly and large enough to

trace)

3. Trace over the word and say it at the same time

4. Then write the word independently next to the traced word

5. Turn the page over and write the word independently

6. Check your spelling

When you feel confident you can leave out the step of tracing and read the word and practice.
